The content of the gauge was brought inside and melted, a core sample was taken and also melted. Both water samples measured exactly .25 hundredths of an inch. There was no new snow after 3PM. Snow was measured in several places with a ruler and ranged from a low of 1.75 to a high of 2.1, with a majority being right at 2 inches which represents the amount reported. It was 28 degrees at 7am, sunny, with ice under the snow. Snow has settled, but everything is covered and beautiful.

The precipitation began as rain around midnight and turned to snow in the early morning hours. The roads are clear but all other surfaces are covered with a heavy dusting of snow. A ruler measurement shows about three sixths of an inches in most sampled areas. I did not take a core sample of the new or total snow.

Snow showers occurred from around 8am until 10:30am Feb.16. Initially the snow accumulated everywhere and measured about four tenths of an inch before it began to melt/evaporate. Reports from other parts of town indicated that the snow was not accumulating, but I have photos of grass and roads being completely covered around 9am.

There is still snow on the ground on the north side of structures and in the woods. The pond is frozen with a layer of snow on top of the ice. The waterfall ice formation is beautiful and the pump is still moving the water through a narrowing opening.

3/12/2010 9:20 AM Ground is covered with hail an inch deep. Rain gauge was collected .6 inches of rain between 7:30 and 9:30 this morning. Our 20 foot flag pole was bent at ground level and is totally on the ground. Tree branches are also down, but no other damage seen at this hour. If there had been leaves on the trees, they would have been shredded. I've never seen hail cover the ground, nor heard the sound that much hail makes in just a few minutes.
