10/9/2009 7:00 AM 0.07 0.2 M M M Sprinkled off & on throughout the day. Snowing at 17:30, stopped snowing by 21:00. At Observation Time: Thick ice sheeeting objects & ground, new snow crunchy/frozen.
10/10/2009 7:00 AM 0.06 T M M M Precipt in Gauge is melted freezing drizzel that coated part of the inside walls of gauge. Temps warmed nicely during the day, melting previous nights snow. Freezing rain pelting north-west windows by 21:00. At Observation Time: 1/8+inch thickness of ice on windshields, thick layer of ice coating north sides of trees & plants & northern exterior walls of structures. Some white "flock-like" snow frozen onto plants & objects.
10/11/2009 7:00 AM T M M M M More of a freezing rain then anything else being received at the strat of the observation period. Seemed like more precipt then simply a T, though not much made it into the 4" cylinder of the gauge (have taken the funnel & 1" tube out due to the record cold temps).
10/12/2009 7:30 AM T 0.0 M 0.0 M Warmer Day Sunday. Light Fog at 04:30 hrs. At Observation Time Cold & VERY Dense Fog ... less then 150 ft visibility. Flock-like Frost Coating Trees, Grass, Fences, Etc.

10/15/2009 6:30 AM 0.00 0.0 M 0.0 M The "big chill" of last weekend is warming back up with comfortable days milder (thogh still cold) nights! The furnace only ran for 40-minutes yesterday & only 20-minutes in the last 6.5 hours - versus serveral hours a day last weekend.

10/20/2009 5:30 AM 0.00 0.0 M 0.0 M Brisk feel to the air (more so then most autumn mornings at this 05:30), like a cold storm is brewing.
10/21/2009 6:30 AM 0.47 2.3 M 0.0 0.00 Gauge contaned a thick slush mixture this morning! Precipt started out as snow last evening & switched to a rain-snow mix. Rain & rain-snow mix continued lightly thru most of the night switching to snow in the early morning hours. Snowing heavily with low clouds at observation time.

New Snow measurement is average of multiple measurements due to some minor drifting. Melted Core Value was collected at a measurement location of comparible depth. Snow seems to have settled a bit during the overnight hours -- having swept the snow off the porch several times during the day yesterday with measurements taken each time, the total swept off the porch adds up to 10.8 inches of snow.

12/24/2009 8:45 AM 0.43 M M M M No way to get a snow measurement, too much blowing & drifting occurred last night. Winds were strong & hard with some snowfall starting about 18:00 & continuing untill sometime after midnight. Woke this morning to calm, sunny, & 0 degree temps.
12/25/2009 8:45 AM T T M M M Sunny clear day with light winds picking up the later evening hours. At observation time the clouds cover much of the skies though are braking up & the sun is shining through a layer of clouds. Trace of "new" snow in the gauge this morning & a light coating on the feed barrels -- May well have been blown snow not actually new snow. No way to measure total snow on ground due to drifting, have areas with less then an inch & areas with upto 36 inches with 8 to 16 inches appearing to be the norm.
12/26/2009 8:45 AM M M M M M PRECIPT IN GAUGE NOT ACCURATE REPRESENTATION = about 4 inches of snow melted to 0.47 inches of water in gauge this morning. Serious drifting occured over night. Winds of 20+ mph (exceeding 50 mph at times) blew most of the night beginning about 17:00. Prior to 02:00 wind from the N. Winds calmed about 02:00 & then returned more out of the W & NW & continue to be at or near 35 mph at observation time. Winds out of the west cause drifts to form against rain gauge. At observation time drifts had formed to top of the gauge (about 24 inches) with about 4 inches of snow in the gauge. Area has places which have blown clear of all snow & areas with large drifts in excess of 36 inches deep, some nearing 48 inches deep.
12/27/2009 8:30 AM M 2.3 0.11 M M Light snow in the AM with a more consistant snow after 20:00 hours. Very windy thru about 19:00, then winds eased & snow started. Snow that has "fallen" into the 4-inch cylinder is largely wind-blown ground snow. Gauge was about half full of snow & we did not receive that much new snow. Major drifting in the area, upto 48 inches deep. Unable to even begin to estimate the snow-on-ground measurements due to the extreme drifting though if I were to it would be close to 30 inches --- largely wind-blown snow carried into the area & dropped here due to the topography (we always have worse drifts then anyone else around around!). Sunny & warming at observation time.

1/2/2010 6:00 AM 0.00 0.0 0.00 M M Day time highs have reached above freezing every day this week (except Sunday) with even a few days in the 40s. The piles & drifts of snow don't appear to have shurnk any though. They have shurnk a little, more settled. A 42-inch drift now sits closer to 30-inches & is full of water. While the driveway is clearing slowly, the parking area in front of the house is still full of deeply rutted snow & only the 4x4 truck can make it around in that area. Nighttime temps are cold enough the snow freezes to a crust that will support walking on while in the daytimes it's soggy & won't support much weight. Any moisture resulting from melting can't really go anywhere due to the heavy snow on the ground so many areas of the ground are soggy if you dig down thru the snow to the dirt. The location & angle of the house combined with the terrain set us up for serious drifting when there are strong winds like we had around Christmas - especially when those winds are from the NW rather then just the N. Simply put.... I Just wish my parking area would melt! We are parking at the road end of the drive & walking 1/4 mile to the house!
1/3/2010 6:00 AM 0.00 0.0 0.00 M M Definately a warmer day with increased melting occuring & the snow definately becoming heavier with a higher water content & settling more.

1/8/2010 6:30 AM 0.00 0.0 0.00 M M Still no real way to get anywhere near an accurate report of snow on ground with all the drifts & no truely "level" spots that don't have a drift sitting on them. Most of the field areas are down to about 3 or 4 inches, though much of the snow also blew off them forming the drifts in lower areas & areas around the house & buildings. If I had to estimate I'd place an average depth somewhere between 8 & 12 inches, realizing of course that our specific location drifts A LOT due to our topography & gullys/ravens/low areas, with much of the wider area & higher areas blowing almost clear when we have the 35+ mph winds like we had around Christmas.

Thunderstorm moved over in evening hours (19:00 to 20:30). No rain or visible lightening while the storm was to the W, though we did hear thunder rumbles. Rain Lightening & Thunder received after storm was on our SE side. -- REALLY WEIRD RAIN EFFECT -- areas on the SE of our house are wet with a some muddy spots while areas on NNW side(where the rain gauge is) are pretty dry or barely damp ...... Weird, the rain we received appears to have been heavier on or limited mostly to the ESE side of the house! Had no winds to speak of so it wasn't an effect caused by the wind! (Experienced a simular thing some years back in New Mexico driving down a rural highway in a miserably heavy thunderstorm with rain so heavy visibility was almost nothing, creeping along the road at only 10 or 15 mph & WHAM! All of a sudden no rain & in a hundred feet we had dry pavement again - You could look back along the road & see the rain coming down, like some invisible wall right where the rain stopped.)

Remaining 0.25 inches received after 21:30 hrs. No hail received. Byers (8 miles to the north of this reporting location) had fire units reporting heavy hail & heavy rain as early as 18:00 hrs with reported rain totals indicated by NWS near 3 inches. Debris, large puddles, backed up culverts & other visible signs of street & yard flooding all around town this morning.
7/8/2010 5:00 AM 0.44 0.0 0.00 0.0 0.00 Heavy rain lasting only a 2 or 3 minutes was received during the evening hours (abt 17:00) then skies cleared. Almost all of the reported precipt was received during overnight hours.
7/9/2010 5:00 AM 0.72 0.0 0.00 0.0 0.00 While I believe my times are correct, the times listed here maybe exactly 1 hr earlier then actual occurance --- my notes had 15:57 as the start of heaviest rain & 17:05 as the end, though I know the heaviest rain only lasted 7 or 8 minutes... hence, one of those times is exactly 1 hour off. So the times listed here are the earlier, so they could have actually been exactly 1 hr later!!! 0.02 inches between 15:35 & 15:57. Extremely heavy rain started @ 15:57. 0.53 inches received between 15:57 & 16:05 hrs. Attempted to make Significant Precipt report though couldn't get the form to load until after 16:45. Remainder of precipt was evening & overnight hrs. Being just off a ridgeline it is difficult to report on flooding though we did experience heavy erosion in a spring planted field.

5/11/2010 7:42 PM Hail started suddenly abt 17:42 & wa continuos until 19:56, then a rain-hail mix. Hail stones got smaller as time passed. Hail stopped when heaviest rain began about 20:00, then the rain let up & hail fell hard for about 5 minutes, then rain-hail mix followed by heavy rain & then light rain with hail again. This pattern continued until after 21:30 with the periods of hail getting shorter & shorter between the bursts of heavy rain. Largest stones were received when the hail first began falling. A few larger stones fell periodically whebn the rain would let up though after the initial hail storm most of the hail was pea to 3/8 inces. Hail was very intermittent coming & going probly 5 times in the course of 45 minutes. The longest hail burst lasted maybe 5 minutes, pea-sized or slightly larger, heavy intensity, & mixed with heavy rain. 8/4/2010 5:30 PM Hail started with the heaviest of the rain about 5 minutes after the first light rain started falling. Hail appeared to be smaller stuff, little beads, & seemed to desolve very rapidly in the heavy rain. Hail-fall lasted only a few short minutes. As for rain, we received 0.69 inches in about 30-minutes & a total of .80 inches from the storm (about 90-minutes).
