Is presently raining. Leaves on most trees are still remarkably green, altho several oak leaves are falling. We have many more walnuts on the ground than we've ever had before. Is this a sign of a fruitful growing season or a harsh winter to come and nature is providing amply for the squirrels??? |

Has rained all day, since I took the reading this a.m. What a beautiful gentle rain, we've had. Thank goodness no storm with it. Guess, I should make a concerted effort to start transporting the houseplants inside. I'm sure they would appreciate the warmth. A lady in town reminded me this a.m. of the folklore of why Marshall doesn't receive bad storms. INTERESTING---actually, it was the same story I was taught as a child. |

Repotted some plants & got some muscle in the evening to carry the heavier plants inside. 46 degrees this a.m. -- definitely a damp chill to the air. No percipitation for 2 days---Heavy frost last two mornings. Yesterday's sun sure felt good. Took a Sunday drive to areas around that we don't usually travel----almost no harvesting started. Persimmons are tasting yummy---have been transplanting asparagus. My upside-down bucket tomatoes are still hanging in there. Not producing much now, tho. |

The sun is absolutely brilliant this a.m. Yesterday, was a perfect day for mulching leaves. Apparently, we've had quite a wind storm some time---found a whole section/path in the woods that have the tops blown out of the trees. |

44degrees/ relatively warm, however, there's a definite bite in the air with all the moisture. Water standing/puddles/ponding/squishy under the feet. Gun season starts tomorrow for deer---will be staying indoors more for safety sake. As some bow deer hunters left a couple of days ago, the deer stood out in the middle of the road and sang, "Ha, Ha, Ha, ha you didn't get me!" We are still surrounded with unharvested corn fields. There have been several grain bin fires in our vicinity from drying corn. |

Went shopping for Christmas tree shopping yesterday---our std joke is wait until we have a very frigid day and have snow to tromp thru. Actually, it wasn't snowing when we left home, but started a few minutes lagter and we had fluttering snowflakes all day. We did find the perfect tree after hiking thru the 3rd tree farm with a brisk wind in our faces. |

The ground was frozen hard enough yesterday morning that it did a fair job of holding up harvesting equipment in the field. Shelling corn--some of the moisture has been freeze-dried out of it. Broke a large combine belt last night, had to be pulled to the house with a tractor. UGH!!! Sure is cold repairing in the fields. Keep us all in your prayers for a safe harvest. |

We were discussing winter last night & the concensus of our memories was that it has been a lot of years since we had had such a length of time with continuous snow coverage. This HOT summer is such a contrast to the super cold winter we just endured! 74* this a.m. -- slight breeze that is refreshing---crickets are making the most racket I've heard this yr---does this mean anything??? Birds are chirping & a spider has built the perfect-looking web next to my butterfly bush. Guess he has staked out his area. |
