A calm 54-degree morning. Lovely. Weather was perfect yesterday for closing out most of the garden. I checked on noaa's el nino site yesterday; the precipitation forecast for our part of the country is below average for September. They are almost always right on the money for the two years or so I've been checking. I'm hoping they are wrong this time, but probably not. Hummingbirds haven't left for Mexico yet but are feeding very often, so I look for them to migrate soon. |

Lovely 54 degrees, wind is calm, no condensation on the gauge. Yesterday the winds were so calm I could hear the hummers beat their little wings. I heard them squeak as their "dog fights" continued over who had claim to the hummer feeder. They've been coming for years and this was the first time to hear them. |

A lovely Monday morning with 57 degrees, calm winds (yesterday's wind 5-10 mph), clear skies, heavy dew on the ground. Here in the foothills, hickory nuts are joining the acorns in falling on the ground. Leaves are showing a bit of color, but the color is quite dull. |

65 degrees this a.m. Heavy dew on the ground. NC finally issued an air quality alert yesterday; the air has been worsening the longer we go with warm, dry air. T-storm on I-40 westbound from Hickory to Morganton at about 3:15...very heavy rain lasted only a few miles...several accidents. Sadly, no rain in my gauge. |

A bit of western "red sky in morning." Things might be looking up...to precipitation raining down. Huge acorn crop; they are very large nuts and are strewn all over the back yard. Very difficult to walk on. |

Rain, glorious rain! 1.46 fell between 7:30 - 10:00 a.m. The rest (.47) fell overnight with rain beginning about 7:30. Haven't yet been out to see about local flooding, but I suspect the Catawba River will be up and running fast. |

Had .11 before dark. Apparently a bit of rain came overnight and had .51 this a.m. This brings my two-day rain event total to 2.44. This is exactly what the doctor ordered! Clear skies at observation; heavy fog present earlier when the dogs were barking is almost history; temp is a wonderful, fall-like 58 degrees. |
