Hay has been cut and needs baling, soybeans are ready for the combine and cotton is ready to pick. During the night sleet and rain fell, compacting the crust making it difficult for birds to feed. Sleet fell on and off, through out the day.

The sight of the overflow tube half full of water was such a surprise, I brought it inside and measured it in a dishpan in the kitchen sink. A neighbor reported five inches in his gauge. The gauge is back in place and it is raining again at 7:09 AM. Nolan, the birds are quiet but if trees could sing my trees would be singing now.

Changing the subject, our Pecan trees are filled with webworms to point of complete defoliation in some trees. The Wise, NC area is the worst I have ever seen. What can we do? Will the trees recover with no leaves to provide nourishment?
9/12/2010 7:00 AM 0.28 M M M M The rain was welcome but slight. The soybeans and cotton desperately need rain but the trees need it more. This morning there was a writhing carpet of webworms extending a foot from the base of the Pecan tree next to the deck. Bug spray had little effect on these worms and I cannot step on all of them. The creatures fall out of the tree like leaves in the fall of the year. We don't dare grill because of the falling worms and poop. The sight was recorded in video and still photographs.
