Toured much of the state yesterday, 8 AM beautiful foliage along Rts. 206 and 31, changing sky was impressive. 10 AM Clinton, light rain. 1 PM heavy rain along Rts. 78 and 287 tapered off to Rutgers Gardens. 6:30 PM thunder and lightning stopped my weeding job. 9 PM had to stop for safety during heavy down poor in Lakewood. 11 PM, checked plantings at Linwood Arboretum, evidence of heavy rain, mulch washed out of some beds, puddling in unfilled plant holes. |

Light drizzle started before yesterday's observation. Precipitation continued all day into late night and early morning, with several periods of very heavy rain starting at 3 PM through midnignt. Thunder and lightning started at 8:30 PM through 1 AM with some building rattling bursts from 10 PM through midnight. Low areas have had standing water for about two to three weeks flooding some local roads. The rain was not unusual but the amount and duration of standing water is more than I have seen in many years. Set up my rain barrel Friday, it is full this morning. |
