12/22/2009 7:30 AM M 3.0 M 6.0 M A light, persistent northwest flow off Lake Erie the past 36 hours. Marginal parameters for lake effect. Storm total since 8 pm Sunday: 4.5" Total snow on ground: 6"
12/28/2009 8:00 AM M 4.0 M 4.0 M Currently experiencing moderate snow. The synoptic event occurred primarily during the overnight period but we are now getting enhancement from Lake Erie. As the arctic cold front approaches and crosses the area LE will kick in. NW winds virtually assure we will get accumulating snow here.

1/3/2010 8:00 AM M 6.0 M 14.0 M Day 2 of extended lake effect event. Persistent NW flow over Lake Erie (35 degrees) continues to deposit snow over the area. Snowed all night providing an average snowfall rate of approx 1/2"/hour. A storm that had been off the New England coast is forecast to move westward maintaining the NW flow but adding synoptic snow.
1/4/2010 9:00 AM M 5.0 M 19.0 M Day 3 of extended lake snow event. Lake snow warnings have expired although NWS at State College (PA) continues lake snow advisory to bordering county. NW winds significantly lighter than the past 2 days. Snow extremely fluffy (30:1 ratio) providing a real Christmas look to the area. Total snowfall since passage of cold front last week that began this extended bout of snow: 17"

2/27/2010 8:20 AM M 4.0 M 9.0 M Snowfall continues on and off from the large synoptic system that has affected the northeast since Thursday. Snow total since beginning of event: 6" Interesting to note that radar returns this morning indicate that the westward surge of snow from the system has made it as far west as my hometown of Dubuque, Iowa along the Mississippi River. Strange!
2/28/2010 9:03 AM M 5.0 M 14.0 M Snoptic snow continued to fall for most of yesterday and overnight. High sun angle prevented any accumulation during most of the daylight hours until about 5 pm when temps cooled. Surprised to find 5" had fallen overnight. A real winter wonderland out there this morning with branches sporting a thick layer. Light snow continues to fall this morning. Forecasts last Thursday had predicted 8-12" here from large system (remnants of which continue to spin near Binghamgton) we only ended up with 2". However, residual moisture and waves since the system weakened have ended up depositing close to a foot when all was said and done.
