We heard rain on the roof during the evening, but when I took the temperature about 3:30AM, there were ~3" of snow on the ground. Snow continued till this morning, and in fact is still snowing a small amount. The gauge reading is less than we really received -- a chunk of snow maybe 3" high fell off the top of the gauge as I was freeing it from its mounting. Also, the "true" reading from the core sample must be greater than that given, since the core didn't capture any of the rain that fell, which I estimate to have been at least 0.1", maybe 0.2".
