11/9/2009 7:15 AM 0.74 M M M M
11/11/2009 8:00 AM 0.00 0.0 M M M Same report for yesterday, 11/10/09, when I had to leave home before I could check gauge--
11/12/2009 8:00 AM 0.00 0.0 M M M Still nothing, but the temp did drop last night. Nice and crisp this a.m. but will reach about 80 this p.m.
11/15/2009 8:00 AM 0.00 0.0 M M M No precip fell yesterday, either--having some difficulty getting back on schedule!
11/16/2009 8:00 AM 0.28 M M M M And right behind the lovely showers late yesterday was a cool front--we're always glad for temps in the 60's and 70's in Central TX.
11/17/2009 8:00 AM 0.00 0.0 M M M The temp fell to only 40 degrees during the night--Fall really is here--at least for a while.
11/18/2009 8:00 AM 0.00 0.0 M M M
11/30/2009 8:00 AM 0.00 0.0 M M M Blessed rain began falling shortly after dawn; only a trace evident at observation time-- A very welcome cold front began moving in last night; meteorologist has forecast the possibility of snow by mid week, which would be rare this early in Central TX.
12/1/2009 8:00 AM 0.36 M M M M A most welcome rainy day yesterday--
12/2/2009 8:00 AM 1.53 M M M M How about this! Rained most of yesterday--softly and gently--what a blessing!
12/4/2009 8:00 AM 0.00 0.0 M M M Snow and/or sleet are predicted for later today; and the preparations for such an event in Central TX rivaled those for catastrophic blizzards! Or destructive tornadoes and hurricanes. Having lived in central Ohio for a year--all winter long--I'm no longer impressed with snow flurries.
12/7/2009 9:00 AM 0.19 M M M M The sky looks promising for more precious moisture--
12/8/2009 8:00 AM 0.19 M M M M Sorry to be so late--
12/9/2009 8:00 AM 0.06 M M M M Light sprinkles fell most of the day--
12/10/2009 8:00 AM 0.00 0.0 M M M Freezing on my back porch, which is protected, this a.m.--the second such low temp this winter--but no rain.
12/12/2009 8:00 AM 0.13 M M M M The light rain began falling early this a.m. and is continuing--perhaps most of the day, according to the meteorologist. Celebration!
12/13/2009 8:00 AM 0.03 M M M M Even though it was foggy and drizzly all day yesterday, only a smidgen fell--oh, well--
12/14/2009 8:00 AM 0.04 M M M M Hoping the drizzle continues--all precip is welcome!
12/15/2009 8:00 AM 0.07 M M M M Am beginning to understand the rate of accumulation of drizzle and fog--another cold front moved in last night.
12/16/2009 8:00 AM 0.00 0.0 M M M The drizzle moved out with the fog, and we had a glorious day yesterday--
12/17/2009 9:00 AM 0.53 M M M M Look at this! The most I've reported in a long time--apologies for being late: had an appt in town.
12/18/2009 8:00 AM 0.00 0.0 M M M Heavy fog surrounds us in our woods--quite beautiful. Did I tell you that as of Nov 28, '09, my name has changed to Loretta Pawlus-- 2009 has been an interesting year with quite a bit of traveling and a wedding. Merging households has been challenging, and we're still not finished with the reorganization. Anyone need a crockpot? We had 6 but have re-distributed 2.
12/19/2009 8:00 AM 0.00 0.0 M M M Yet another cool front moved in, pushing the fog out--so, today is gorgeous!
12/22/2009 8:00 AM 0.00 0.0 M M M
12/23/2009 8:00 AM 0.00 0.0 M M M BUT a cold front with accompanying thundershowers is forecast for today--fingers are crossed!
12/24/2009 8:00 AM 0.32 M M M M Fell during the night, and I didn't hear anything! Walked down to the mail box a few minutes ago and saw evidence of strong winds: a large pine tree (about 60' high) had broken, taking limbs from another even larger oak. Because of our extreme and prolonged drought in Central TX, many old trees have given up the ghost--and am I grateful when they fall within the forest rather onto my driveway(have experienced that calamity, which seldom occurs when one is not in a hurry!) Merry Christmas! 1
12/25/2009 8:00 AM 0.00 0.0 M M M About 30 degrees on our covered back porch at 8 this a.m. Beautifully clear--
12/26/2009 8:00 AM 0.00 0.0 M M M Another beautiful winter day--
12/29/2009 8:00 AM 0.00 0.0 M M M Altho sleet and rain were forecast for 6 a.m., the precip didn't start falling until after 9 a.m. Hope this front lingers all day--
12/30/2009 8:00 AM 0.59 M M M M A meteorologist in Austin said that if we can receive just a little more rain during these last 2 days, 2009 will be recorded as having received normal annual rainfall! My home is east of the airport, but we don't always receive as much rain as they do.
1/5/2010 8:00 AM 0.00 0.0 M M M Have been away from home but, from individuals' reports, didn't miss any precip--cold and crisp, tho.
1/12/2010 8:00 AM 0.00 0.0 M M M With temps in the mid-teens--very unusual for Central Texas--absence of moisture prevented ice. This hard freeze lingered for 4 days! All kinds of records were broken. Today, tho, we've started a breathtakingly beautiful day at about 40 degrees--
1/13/2010 8:00 AM 0.00 0.0 M M M Rain is predicted for maybe late this evening--and then supposed to bless us amply. Fingers are crossed!
1/14/2010 8:00 AM 0.21 M M M M My dried-out rain gauge is much improved today. Light sprinkles began falling yesterday evening. Our meteorologist forecasts continued falling moisture thru Friday--area lakes are still below normal, so this precip is most welcome!
1/15/2010 8:00 AM 0.51 M M M M Is this GREAT or what? The rain has been soft and steady, and I can almost hear the trees clapping their hands (that's Biblical--) More precious precip is expected--

1/26/2010 8:00 AM 0.00 0.0 M M M Have been out of town for several days but nothing in the rain gauge, so perhaps haven't missed anything--
1/28/2010 8:00 AM 0.00 0.0 M M M Altho no rain has fallen yet, it has certainly threatened to descend! A cold front with possible thundershowers is due in late tonight--bring it on!
1/29/2010 8:00 AM 0.85 M M M M Wow! Is this great or what? And the precious precip is still falling.
2/2/2010 8:00 AM 0.05 M M M M Was out of town during the weekend; fine mist fell most of yesterday, tho. The trees in the forest love this kind of moisture--
2/3/2010 8:00 AM 0.37 M M M M And it continues! Predictions are for a wet weekend, too--hallelujah!
2/4/2010 8:00 AM 0.36 M M M M Mist adds up when it falls all day long--
2/5/2010 8:00 AM 0.34 M M M M More than 1" this week--am I still in Central Texas?
2/8/2010 8:00 AM 0.06 M M M M
2/9/2010 8:00 AM 0.54 M M M M Two thundershowers yesterday afternoon brought this wonderful rain--the storm moved through quickly, heading to the Gulf coast and then northeastward. It had been a lonnnnng time since such forceful rain fell. Praise the Lord!
2/11/2010 8:00 AM 0.43 M M M M Was in Austin, to the west of Bastrop, all day yesterday, during which time the drizzle, accompanied by some sleet, fell--and it continues today. Significant precip is forecast for our area--
2/12/2010 8:00 AM 1.12 M M M M The most welcome front has moved on,leaving abundant precious precip!
2/13/2010 8:00 AM 0.00 0.0 M M M 30 degrees at 7:30 on the back porch--cold and crisp, an ordinary winter day in Central TX--
2/15/2010 8:00 AM 0.05 M M M M After a beautiful start, with bright sunshine, clear skies, and temps that reached about 60 degrees, the day changed as a cold front, accopmpanied with rain, blew in--literally. The rain in the gauge was frozen; that usually happens only when the temp falls to 30. Typical Central Texas day!
2/16/2010 8:00 AM 0.00 0.0 M M M Still nippy but bright and beautiful--
2/17/2010 8:00 AM 0.00 0.0 M M M Another gorgeous day! Freezing temps again last night with high of 59 today forecast--
2/18/2010 8:00 AM 0.00 0.0 M M M Still cold and clear--lovely! Yesterday's sunset was glorious, viewed while returning home after a long walk--
2/20/2010 8:00 AM 0.00 0.0 M M M Mist was reported in Austin--about 35 miles northwest--but it didn't reach us--
2/23/2010 8:00 AM 0.09 M M M M The cooler temps and rain arrived early this a.m., as predicted. The sleet and snow accompanying the rain are north of Bastrop Co--another time when I'm glad to be skipped--
2/24/2010 8:00 AM 0.23 M 0.05 M M I sometime feel sorry for the weatherman. Altho our area, about 35 miles southeast of Austin, was not forecast to receive the sleet and snow that moved from the north, about noon, sleet began to fall with the nice rain; within 30-45 minutes, snow started coming down! We were out and drove west toward Austin for an appt, and the flakes were larger and denser. The white stuff moved onward east, but some of the drifts in the woods and on our roofs have accumulated. You'll notice the snowfall report; I brought the gauge inside and allowed the snow in the funnel to melt into the gauge. First snowfall in 6 years--
2/25/2010 8:00 AM 0.00 0.0 M M M Another absolutely beautiful day!
2/26/2010 8:00 AM 0.00 0.0 M M M Not being in dire drought for the past few months has been a novel experience; area lakes and rivers are full again! Our famous wildflowers should be even more spectacular this spring--
2/27/2010 8:00 AM 0.00 0.0 M M M Yet another gorgeous day! What a great winter we've had--
3/1/2010 8:00 AM 0.51 M M M M This was one of the nicest surprises in a long time! Had no idea the rain was coming in (too occupied with Olympics) and have no idea when it fell last night. Today is another lovely day. Found the 3rd raccoon in our trap in as many days. They've made a large enough hole in the screened-in back porch door to get in and eat the cat's food--more than once. Our efforts to keep them out didn't deter their causing more damage, so we set out the trap. We took the first one to the state park just north of us; yesterday, because I needed to get back to church at 6 p.m., we set No. 2 free into the woods to the west very near the Colorado River. We'll keep trapping until they stop coming; however, we suspect there may be a colony of them in these dense woods (the Lost Pines of Central TX). Cute as buttons but so destructive!
3/2/2010 8:00 AM 0.15 M M M M In the late afternoon, a nice shower blessed us--
3/5/2010 8:00 AM 0.00 0.0 M M M Incredibly beautiful winter days continue--
3/8/2010 8:00 AM 0.04 M M M M After several days of almost cloudless skies and mild temps, yesterday was overcast; but the rain didn't fall until after 11 p.m.
3/9/2010 8:00 AM 0.05 M M M M Light mist provided this bit of moisture--

3/16/2010 8:00 AM 0.35 M M M M Celebration time! Yesterday, as we were walking thru the woods, I said it would be nice to have more rain. I've seen the first bluebonnets and Indian paintbrush, and many trees are leafing out. As I walked to the rain gauge, I heard birds seeming to be quarreling; and after considerable searching in the dense canopy, I spotted the culprit: a strong woodpecker was steadily tapping high above, and the other birds didn't like it. We have a flock of wild turkeys residing in our woods now. The raccoons have caused so much property damage in their efforts to get onto the screened-in back porch for our cat's food that we finally set a trap: three mornings in a row, we had a raccoon waiting for us. We live south of one of the most popular state parks in Texas; and a man friend who was the superintendent several years ago told me to take the culprits way into the woods within the park and release them. Last week, we visited with him and told him about our captures. He said the raccoons must be carried perhaps even farther away to prevent their return. I'd wished to be able to tag them but that is very dangerous, and I didn't have any bright spray paint. We'll continue to set the trap until we have no destructive visitors.
3/17/2010 8:00 AM 0.37 M M M M --Totaling almost 3/4"! The trees are clapping their hands!
3/18/2010 8:00 AM 0.00 0.0 M M M Another breaktakingly lovely day! Spring is coming!
3/20/2010 9:30 AM 1.15 M M M M The predicted cold front moved in about 6:30 this a.m. with such sound effects (thunder and either sleet or hail) that awakened me. The woods were full of fog for a few moments; then heavy rain fell until just recently. It is still overcast but much brighter. Wow! Is this a lovely surprise! Not a drop fell yesterday; in fact, it was another in a series of gorgeous late winter days in Central Texas.
3/24/2010 8:00 AM 0.00 0.0 M M M Have been away from my computer for several days. Rain is predicted for today--keeping my fingers crossed! Central Texas has enjoyed a delightful spring--
3/25/2010 8:00 AM 0.51 M M M M And most was very light rain, almost mist-- When I came inside after about 2 hrs outside (cleaning flowerbeds)my hair was damp. Today is gorgeous again--
3/29/2010 8:00 AM 0.00 0.0 M M M Away from my computer for a couple of days--no rain while gone, tho. Our famous wildflowers are a bit late this year, probably because temps since the first of the year have been about 10 degrees lower than average.
3/30/2010 8:00 AM 0.00 0.0 M M M Another almost unbelievably beautiful day in Central Texas--
3/31/2010 8:00 AM 0.00 0.0 M M M Temps are rising! C. 80 yesterday, and 85 predicted for today-- The coolness was wonderful--
4/2/2010 8:00 AM 0.00 0.0 M M M Overcast skies because of a storm moving through the northeastern portion of TX; hoping for some nice showers--
4/3/2010 8:00 AM 0.00 0.0 M M M We did not benefit for the northeast TX storms--but incredibly beautiful spring days continue. Except for the pollen falling from pines and oaks--it appears that someone has sprinkled sulphur all over the forest!
4/5/2010 8:00 AM 0.08 M M M M The light rain that started falling c. 6 a.m. was sufficient for cancellation of the Easter sunrise service scheduled in the Bastrop State Park. Moved to a nearby location (default plan in place) and were grateful for the moisture--
4/6/2010 8:00 AM 0.00 0.0 M M M Temps expected to reach lower 80's today--
4/8/2010 8:00 AM 0.10 M M M M A very nice shower was followed by a welcome cool front: in Central Texas, we want spring to last as long as possible--
4/9/2010 8:00 AM 0.00 0.0 M M M We're still enjoying that cool front and hoping for more rain--
4/11/2010 8:00 AM 0.00 0.0 M M M Needing rain again!
4/12/2010 8:00 AM 0.00 0.0 M M M Still no rain, but yesterday we drove about 100 miles east just to see wildflowers--absolutely breathtaking! Huge pastures covered with bluebonnets look like lakes--
4/13/2010 8:00 AM 0.00 0.0 M M M Meteorologists are predicting rain for the weekend; hope they're right!
4/14/2010 8:00 AM 0.00 0.0 M M M Not yet, but we've been told that there is a 40% chance of rain today--our collective fingers are crossed!
4/15/2010 8:00 AM 0.00 0.0 M M M Rain has not moved this far east yet, but just heard that there is an 80% chance for the afternoon--may take an umbrella to the grief support group I lead--
4/16/2010 8:00 AM 0.33 M M M M In mid-April, we've finally received our first rain! Nice and soft drizzle and is still here--hallelujah!
4/17/2010 8:00 AM 0.64 M M M M Did you hear my expressions of glee? The rain fell off and on all day yesterday; and in the evening when the clouds moved on, I thought it was over, but there was more! Yea! Nice and slow and soft--the trees are clapping their hands.
4/18/2010 8:00 AM 0.38 M M M M Showers with thunder blessed us after dark yesterday--the forest floor is definitely moist now.
4/21/2010 8:00 AM 0.00 0.0 M M M Have been unable to report for the past few days, but no rain fell. There's a slight chance of some tomorrow, tho--which would be welcome!
4/22/2010 8:00 AM 0.00 0.0 M M M Yesterday was a perfect spring day; this a.m. the skies are "threatening" and that gives us hope of more rain. Tornados in the Panhandle were far away, but perhaps some attendant showers will move southeastward--
4/23/2010 8:00 AM 0.04 M M M M Not much, but I can see transpiration occurring. We're told to expect more--
4/25/2010 8:00 AM 0.00 0.0 M M M
4/26/2010 8:00 AM 0.00 0.0 M M M
4/27/2010 8:00 AM 0.00 0.0 M M M Weatherpersons continue to encourage us about the possibility of rain, but I'm watering flower beds today anyway--still lovely spring temps, tho!
4/30/2010 8:00 AM 0.00 0.0 M M M Have been thinking about doctors who practice medicine; perhaps we should refer to meteorologists as guessing weather.
5/4/2010 8:00 AM 0.00 0.0 M M M Still no precip but the temps remain cool--
5/6/2010 8:00 AM 0.00 0.0 M M M A cool front is supposed to move in tonight and possibly bring rain with it--
5/11/2010 8:00 AM 0.00 0.0 M M M
5/12/2010 8:00 AM 0.00 0.0 M M M It is at times like this when I wish some of the excess rain from other areas could be pipelined to us in Central TX. Altho still enjoying spring-like weather, we are needing rain very much!
5/14/2010 8:00 AM 0.00 0.0 M M M Keeping my fingers crossed that the meteorologists are correct about rain for this weekend--
5/15/2010 8:00 AM 2.90 M M M M Celebration time! The lovely wet stuff began falling yesterday afternoon--stopped for a while--and then came roaring back early this a.m. Severe thunderstorms, which frighten my 8-yr-old Schnauzer, but was music to my ears!

5/17/2010 8:00 AM 0.00 0.0 M M M

5/22/2010 8:00 AM 0.00 0.0 M M M Even tho we'd welcome more rain, we're greatful to have escaped the violent weather north of us--

5/28/2010 8:00 AM 0.05 M M M M No matter how scant, we're greatful for rain!

5/31/2010 8:00 AM 0.00 0.0 M M M
6/1/2010 8:00 AM 0.00 0.0 M M M Still nothing--groan.
6/3/2010 7:25 AM 1.75 M M M M Can you believe this? Severe thunderstorms, which frighten my 8-yr-old Schnauzer, were followed with wonderful rain. I'd deep-watered flower beds for the past 2 days and was thinking about washing my car--it finally worked.
6/4/2010 8:00 AM 0.70 M M M M How grateful we are! The trees in our forest are clapping their hands--
6/7/2010 8:00 AM 0.00 0.0 M M M The benefits of the recent rains are still evident even as the temps climb into the high 90's--
6/8/2010 8:00 AM 0.00 0.0 M M M Light rain began falling shortly before 8 a.m. Hoping that there will be enough accumulation to report something significant tomorrow--
6/9/2010 9:00 AM 1.23 M M M M Awakened around 4 by severe thunderstorms; and in between fierce explosions, we heard the rain, so opened our bedroom door onto the screened-in back porch and enjoyed the concert. Waited for a lull in the heavy rain to read the gauge; the noise continues and dark clouds have moved in, dumping more of this precious moisture. More of the dead trees killed during the extended drought fell too. Isn't nature wonderful!
6/10/2010 8:00 AM 0.68 M M M M Another thunderstorm brought more, and still welcome, precious rain--

6/28/2010 8:00 AM 0.00 0.0 M M M
6/29/2010 8:00 AM 0.00 0.0 M M M We're hoping the first possible hurricane of the season will bring us some much needed rain--
6/30/2010 8:00 AM 0.36 M M M M The rains that fell on Central TX yesterday were not from Hurricane Alex; a front that stalled over the area unleashed torrents of rain west of this location, causing flooding even in south Austin (about 35 miles to the west). I'd spent most of the day soaking flower beds--it worked again! (My own "rain dance.")
7/1/2010 8:00 AM 0.12 M M M M And now the effects of Hurricane Alex are affecting South Texas; we should benefit.
7/2/2010 8:00 AM 0.27 M M M M Lovely, soft showers fell intermittently all day yesterda--
7/3/2010 8:00 AM 2.05 M M M M All day yesterday, I looked forward to checking the rain gauge this morning--and there was more than I expected! Cannot recall the last time I could report 2+"--wow.
7/6/2010 8:00 AM 0.00 0.0 M M M No precip since my last report. Apologies for not reporting each day: schedule sometimes prevents. Will be out of the country until July 26, so hope someone else from Bastrop Co is reporting also.
7/28/2010 8:00 AM 0.90 M M M M Returned from Alaska late Fri, 7/23, and still not completely unpacked. Thundershowers yesterday were welcome! Even though I'd checked the rain gauge on Sun and was pleased to see that 1.67" had fallen since 7/09, our forest needed more rain--a nice way to end July in Central TX!
7/29/2010 8:00 PM 0.35 M M M M Please note: this report is for yesterday. Left the house yesterday a.m. shortly after 5 a.m., for a surgical procedure for my husband. Since we've had some lovely rain lately, didn't want to miss a day--
7/30/2010 8:00 AM 0.00 0.0 M M M No additional precip but temps remain pleasant.

8/2/2010 8:00 AM 0.00 0.0 M M M Temps are expected to rise above 100 for the first time since last summer--ouch!
8/3/2010 8:00 AM 0.00 0.0 M M M Two days of 100+ are enough--too much, in fact--but the first all summer, so am trying not to complain too much--
8/4/2010 8:00 AM 0.00 0.0 M M M
8/6/2010 8:00 AM 0.00 0.0 M M M Still nothing while temps continue to rise into 3 figures--
8/7/2010 8:00 AM 0.00 0.0 M M M Still no precip and still enduring triple-digit temps, but that's summer, which came late this year--thank you, Lord!
8/10/2010 8:00 AM 0.00 0.0 M M M As predicted, no rain--but it will come again.
8/14/2010 8:00 AM 0.00 0.0 M M M
8/17/2010 8:00 AM 0.05 M M M M We benefited from a sudden and apparently violent storm less than 6 miles from here yesterday afternoon--after I'd been soaking flower beds all day. Our local meteorologist explained such rain shafts as occuring during intense heat (c. 105) when the temps above are as low. Very interesting, especially when he showed a photo taken by an alert citizen north of here where another localized storm damaged structures also.

8/20/2010 8:00 AM 0.00 0.0 M M M
8/28/2010 8:00 AM 0.00 0.0 M M M Still no rain, which we need desperately, but this a.m. is so delightfully cool -- 69!-- that Fall is definitely around the corner!
8/31/2010 8:00 AM 0.00 0.0 M M M
9/3/2010 8:40 AM 0.60 M M M M Was this a surprise! The rain began early this a.m. and is still falling--hallelujah! A much needed blessing, for which we're deeply grateful--
9/7/2010 9:30 AM 1.82 M M M M Tropical Storm Hermine moved in before 6 a.m.; since the rain gauge is 200-300 feet away from the house and the rain was falling hard, waited until this time to check--what a delightful surprise! We're told to expect rain throughout today and part of tomorrow. Because we're east of its track, it is doubtful that there will be any flash flooding as is expected in the Hill Country.
9/8/2010 8:25 AM 1.83 M M M M Hermine continues to visit us, and are we grateful! Yesterday afternoon and evening, there was much concern about tornados south and west of us. We're headed for west Austin this afternoon for a dr's appt; flooding has abated in that area--at least, we hope so.
9/9/2010 8:00 AM 0.50 M M M M While others survey their losses caused by Tropical Storm Hermine, we continue to be grateful for this precious moisture--
9/14/2010 8:00 AM 0.16 M M M M We made the Austin news last night because the rain was so scattered, and our area was one of the few blessed--much welcomed and needed, of course.

9/17/2010 8:00 AM 0.00 0.0 M M M
9/18/2010 8:00 AM 0.07 M M M M Hurricane Karl suprised us with a lovely afternoon shower--moved fast, didn't it?
9/19/2010 3:00 PM 0.06 M M M M Was gone until early p.m.; but since we'd had a shower the p.m. before, didn't want to not report--
9/20/2010 8:00 AM 0.04 M M M M Hurricane Karl continues to provide nice showers--
9/21/2010 8:00 AM 0.47 M M M M Was unable to access the internet until now! How frustrating since I have such a good report today. Hurricane Karl is still depositing rain--too much for some areas but absolutely great for us.
9/23/2010 8:00 AM 0.07 M M M M We were in Austin--about 45 miles away from home--when heavy rains began to fall. Driving was not comfortable, but we eventually drove through this downpour as we returned to our home to the east. I'm glad they received their blessed rain but sorry that we didn't get more--however, every drop is appreciated.
9/27/2010 8:00 AM 0.00 0.0 M M M Our first day of fall--60 degrees this a.m., cool and crisp. The only thing that would make it better would be a nice shower this afternoon--
