10/8/2009 8:00 AM 0.29 M M M M Weak convective cells formed along stationary/warm front situated just to our south during the morning and passed over the gauge. Precipitation over the Brazos Valley was fairly isolated otherwise.
10/9/2009 7:00 AM T M M M M
10/10/2009 8:00 AM 1.54 M M M M Cold frontal mesoscale convective system moved through just after 7am. Convective cells along the leading edge of the front were not exceptionally deep (just ~6-8 km echo tops). A very large stratiform rain region trailed the leading line, mostly caused by strong upper-level dynamics/jet streak aloft and moisture overruning the front. Stratiform precipitation was moving from SW to NE although the system as a whole was moving toward the SE.
10/12/2009 8:00 AM 0.25 M M M M Area was located under the favorable right front quadrant of subtropical jet. Some isoentropic lift from the stationary/warm front off the coast likely also played a role in causing precipitation. Most rain fell between 11:30-3:30. Few hundredths fell briefly around midnight.
10/13/2009 8:00 AM 0.10 M M M M Light showers formed in vicinity of warm front (possibly streamer showers?). Most rain fell between 1:40-2:30.
10/14/2009 8:00 AM 0.96 M M M M Two different main rounds of convection occurred around 12:15 and 5:45. The first lasted about an 30 minutes and the second lasted closer to an hour (although this site was probably on the northern fringe of most of that one). Shortwave aloft was probably the primary cause, although the warm/stationary front in the vicinity probably played a role as well.

10/21/2009 8:00 AM 0.04 M M M M Early morning showers just prior to sunrise.
10/22/2009 8:00 AM 1.51 M M M M Two main bands of precipitation occurred. The first one occurred from 6-9pm ahead of the cold front, likely due to weak upper-level disturbances propagating out ahead of the remnants of Pacific TC Rick. The larger second one moved through between 3-6:30 am. Not sure of the difference in precip totals here.

10/26/2009 8:00 AM 2.13 M M M M Cold frontal LLTS-MCS pushed through the area with a tremendous amount of rainfall with the slow-moving expansive leading convective line (~1.5 inches). Trailing stratiform region is very large and mature and will likely cause it to continue raining for several hours. Moisture overrunning the frontal boundary and jet streak dynamics aloft will both likely help keep this precipitation going.
10/27/2009 8:00 AM 0.81 M M M M Stratiform precipitation from cold frontal LLTS-MCS assisted by impressive upper-level dynamics with the vorticity max at 500 mb and a coupled jet (left exit region of subtropical jet and right entrance region of polar jet).

2/12/2010 8:00 AM 1.07 T M 0.0 M Upper-level jet streak interacted with abundant moisture overriding coastal front at the surface. Strong isentropic lift was present. Initial precipitation strongly tied to surface low and coastal front (first 3-4 hours) while stronger precipitation later in the afternoon and early evening tied to better jet dynamics (and potentially greater conditional symmetric instability producing banded precipitation). CLL experienced heaviest rain rates (0.08-0.16") from 5-9pm. Rain transitioned briefly to sleet around 7:45-8pm and to snow shortly thereafter before transitioning back to rain by 9:30pm (possibily slightly earlier). Snow was very wet and only had minor accumulations. Standing water in several yards in our neighborhood.

2/24/2010 8:00 AM 0.44 M M T M Upper-level stationary front (850 mb) and associated trough provided synoptic focus for impressive rain-to-snow event in the area. Conditional symmetric instability may have also played a role. Unsure of how much snow fell since I was gone all day and most had already melted by the time I got home in the evening. Most likely at least 2 inches of snow occurred since I melted the remaining snow in the gauge into 0.2" liquid equivalent after I got home. Only a trace of snow was on the ground at 8am (several areas with none, some with as much as 0.5 inches). Much of the snow had melted on the ground when I got home at 11pm.

3/1/2010 8:00 AM 0.59 M M M M Stratiform precipitation with embedded elevated convection (including a nice line of elevated convection) caused widespread rain overnight. Although a coastal stationary/warm front was present to the south and a weak surface trough was present in the vicinity of the where the line of elevated convection was located, most signs point to this being caused by the upper-level disturbance to the northwest. Gravity wave dynamics may have also played a role as well (also possibly causing surface pressure trough) as indicated by radar velocity imagery. These waves were probably self-contained within the stable layer in the lower 1-2km. Hard to say what kind of role they were playing in generating convection.....
3/2/2010 8:00 AM 0.05 M M M M Elevated precipitating echo associated with upper-level disturbance and associated secondary surface low. Some convection was present to our south.
