Melted snow in rain gauge to get a total of moisture for rain and snow and it came to the 0.36 inches. Took a core sample and melted it and it showed 0.24 inches. So it appears that approx 0.12 inches of rain fell before the snow fell.

When I went to bed at 2330 there was approx 3.5 inches and it was still snowing so do not know when it quit. Very light fluffy snow but slick. there was no appreciable wind with it so no drifting and the depth was even everywhere I measured.

The freezing rain only amounted to .01 inches and was only enough to put a thin layer on everything. At best measurement the ice layer was only about 1 tenth of an inch thick. Was difficult to measure as it was not smooth ice but rough.

When I got to work 6.5 miles southeast as the crow flies there was a half inch of new snow that had fallen early this morning.

Did an average today. I live on the side of a hill and find it very interesting that there is less moisture in samples at the back of my lot and the moisture content goes up as I work down the slope.

It was very windy during the night and depending which weather station you looked at wind gusts hit a high of around 40 with one of around 52. I really depended on where you were as my boss you lives approx 7 miles due west of me heard us talking about the wind and wondered what we were talking about as they had none.

The crops are being wiped out by all the cold and rain. We started out looking like we would have a drought and now we are being child and washed out. Only 7 days of no moisture in June, 16 days in May, and 15 in April. Temperatures are running up to 10 degrees below normal.

Interesting how if no rain fell between now and Jan. 1 and someone just looked at the rainfall amount for the year they would say we had a normal rainfall year. They just announced last night that we had 159% of the normal amount of rainfall for April, May, and June. Most of our years moisture in three months. Weather sure does strange things.

Everything seemed to turn brown overnight and now the grass and shrubs burn real easy. We have no drought as far as irrigation water but the ground around here has dried out and has very little moisture. Such is summer.

This is the most rain fall I have collected in a 24 hr period since I started reporting in May of 2009. The previous highest report was 0.59 inches and was the first day I ever reported. At first I thought someone was playing a joke on me, till I looked at my weather station data. I honestly didn't think I would ever see an inch in one day here.
