My fields are stunted and my lawn is browning!

Cloudbank at dusk previous day produced a few droplets—and only a few. As a news photographer, I spent some time with a city crew Friday as they installed a sewer project. I took note of the fact that they dug more than three feet down to lay the line. In doing so, they encountered nearly no visible soil moisture. We are dry, dry, dry. Skies now partly cloudy, temp. 46F, relative humidity 83%. |

Total is regular rain from the"Armegedon" winter storm that local stations predicted would end us all. I, however, had the privilege of listening in to the Louisville NWS conference call with our local emergency management at 10 a.m. CST the previous day. This call's forecast proved to be very accurate for our area, and I would like to commend the Louisville NWS crew for its usual superb job of staying on top of incoming weather events. While the many Chicken Littles who thought me a fool scurried about, canceled plans and attacked our grocery stores, I went about my business.
Rain continues as of observation time, and residual snow remains only in areas of high drift. |

Total is from two sources. First, a powerful storm that ripped through the area at around 2-3 p.m. previous day (1.32). My CoCoRaHS station is near Barren River Lake, within one mile of the Sawyer's Marine boat dealership, where some kind of wind phenomenon picked up large pontoon boats, ripping them from their trailers and tossing them over like toys. The wind tore right through the dealership, blowing out a door and ripping items off the walls and shelves. Flash flooding also confirmed a few miles east of station. No serious damage at station area, nor was any hail reported. Second line of storms struck around 10 p.m. previous evening, dropping .34 rain total balance. Skies now clear, with a lot of dew and haze. Temp. 71F, RH 88%. |
