The rain gauge held just 0.03 inches of precipitation, probably because the snow was accompanied by strong winds. |

Light snow began falling about 3:00 PM on the 1st, becoming heavy by 4:00 PM, and soon developing into a raging blizzard with high winds. New snowfall was difficult to measure because of severe drifting around the snowboard (where depths ranged from 7.3 to 10.0 inches), so this is a rough approximation only. New snow was extremely dense and wet. I emptied the rain gauge at 10:00 PM on the 1st and again at 7:00 AM on the 2nd. Based on that, I estimate that about half of the total snowfall occurred by 10:00 PM on the 1st, with the remainder falling between then and 7:00 AM on the 2nd. Snow depths ranged from 13.5 to 20 inches, with a median of 17.0 inches (n=13). Still snowing heavily at time of observation. |

Light SNOW that developed in the pre-dawn hours on the 10th continued until about 11:00 AM with no additional accumulation on the ground. The 0.5 inches of snow present on the ground at 7:00 AM on the 10th had essentially all melted by early afternoon. Additional light snow was recorded between 7:00 and 8:00 PM on the 10th. Existing snow cover is reduced to less than 1 percent. Ice cover on Crescent Lake is receding rapidly but still exceeds 50 percent. |

The rainfall total reported today is a best-guess estimate based on extrapolation from nearest reporting stations. This approach is necessary because the rain gauge, which was temporarily setting on the ground and supported on two sides by stakes by blown over by strong wind gusts during the night. Light to moderate rain fell between about 1:30 and 5:00 PM on the 29th. Rain again began falling about 9:00 or 10:00 PM on the 29th and continued, at least lightly, throughout much of the nighttime and early morning hours. |
