Just returned home from 3 day trip to TN. We received .85 inches of rain today, in just over three hours of time. There were numerous tornado warnigs all over the State, including here. Lots of wind damage from Cedar Springs to the North, to below Fort Wayne in IN. Crazy weather all over central US. Anyway, we have a temp of 67 degrees currently, wind is gusting to 35 mph, and skies are clearing. by the way, driving a semi through a tornado does things to your excitement meter! So I said I would wash my car and watch it rain. BINGO! We got .05 inches of rain last evening, in just over 2 hrs time. A cold front moved in following the rain, and now it is beginning to feel like November 14th! Thermometer is holding at just above freezing, and wind is stiff out of the SW at 7-10 steady mph. Had a real variety of weather yesterday, which resulted in .3 inches of moisture in a six hour span of time. Cool front came down out of Canada and brought cold driving rain with the threat of sleet and snow showers but never materialized. It has been a different fall for hunters, not many deer moving on account of the balmy weather, but temps are down now and perhaps more rewards of venison will be realized. Received a dusting of snow in our area, mostly lake effect, as Grand Rapids and other areas reported 5.5 inches in the past 24 hours. East of us reported less, but we did get consierable amount of rain prior to the switch to snow. Temps are nearing 28 degrees currently, had a low of 22 overnight. We were drenched yesterday and this early am! When i reported yesterday, we had just received .2 inches of rain in a half hour and then the heavens opened and we got .7 inches of rain in the next hour and a half, and receiving the balance .2 inches late evening and during the am hours. Currently we are basking in sunshine and 38 degree weather with a steady wind out of the SW at 10 mph, gusting to 15. At midnight we had a temp of 58 degrees, as I said, we are at 38 degrees at present. Picked up a trace of precitation on Sunday, along with cold arctic air. Measurement on the snowboard was minimal, less than a quarter inch. Received an inch and a half during the early morning hours yesterday, and that does not include the amount that we will be getting today. We are currently getting measureable amounts of snow at a half an inch an hour due to lake effect conditions.Roads are snow covered and slippery, and temps are holding at 32 degrees, a temp that will help produce more amounts of snow later today. We have less than 5 mph wind speed, and overcast skies. Will report total amounts tomorrow on the snow board, currently pushing 4 inches.

A cool morning started the day off,and then came the snow! We received an inch of measured snow this am from 7:00-11:00, and then the sun came out, and then disappeared behind more lake effect snow. The day started out cool, 26 degrees. Overcast and Easterly winds told my senses that we were in for some bad stuff, sometime during mid-day.After returning from church at noon, all the snow you would ever want started falling, we had 3" in less than an hour, and at last measurement we had 6" on the snow board. The rain followed, after the snow ended, a freezing rain which put a coating of ice on everything that had fallen previously. As one would guess, the school closings and community activities are basically cancelled due to the icy conditions. Alas, it is presidents day, so there would be no mail or open banks anyway, so why worry? Back to the topic at hand, we have 6" of snow, .45 of liquid in the rain gauge, with snow sitting atop the canister and winds out of the east at 10-15 mph, causing some drifting on N/S roads. Was gone the past three days,but have recorded amounts of moisture of 1.45 inches of rain, sleet and snow at our station. Currently it is sunny but cold, 37 degrees and a slight breeze from the SW. Most of the moisture, .65 inches fell on the 23rd, late in the evening hours. Yesterday,24th, we woke up to a 1/4 inch of ice all over everything, including our cars! The measureable snow varied from the snow board to the warm ground in measurement, so a real accurate measre would be challengable. What a storm last night! Shortly after the ten o'clock news started last night we got hammered by a tremendous rain storm along with lightening and wind. It had been sprinkling all evening off and on, but at 10:15,it all came together and hit us. we got over an inch of rain during the night, and winds changed from Westerly to Easterly, and back to SW by 8:00 this am. We got a "gully washer" last night, started after 20:00 hours and lasted well into the early morning hours. What a mix of weather last evening! Received .65 inches of the wet stuff last evening and overnight. We watched the radar on tv last night and watched tornados go north and south of us, and had no damage or winds or hail to speak of at our home. The south is really getting beat up again and Texas, what can you say?

Started to rain last night as I returned from Ohio. We received a meager .30 inches of moisture, which was soon dried up after a short thunderstorm, lasting less than an hour. Humidity is high, 87%, temp is currently 73 degrees and wind is calm to 5 mph.out of the sw. as I said earlier, I had just returned from NC Ohio, where they were drenched the day before. They have fields under water, the Miami River is over it's bank, and a troop of Scouts had to be rescued near Dayton, when their camp ground was hit by a sudden flood.Warm and muggy in SW MI currently, with a chance of rain later.Have a great day! |

Two pop-up storms passed thru the area yesterday, bringing hail, rain and hig winds. We had numerous power outages into the late evening hours, and had some tree damage. Our gauge collected .85 inches of moisture during the two storms which lasted less than two hours. This am we have scattered fog and breaking clouds, giving way to sunshine. Have been gone from our station for a month working at a lighthouse, no internet avaiable there, so no reports could be sent in. Since we got back to this station, we have gotten quite a bit of rain in the past 24 hours. Yesterday,Wednesday,and over night we received 1,25 inches of rain, and need more. The ground is very dry, more than 8 inches deep. Temps have stayed inthe comfort zone along with the humidex, but looks like we may see the humidex going up today!
