The sun was out, there were blue skies, a few clouds and one of those decided to rain on our parade. We were watching the MI-MI State game and it was just getting over. People were out walking and ran for cover. It was interesting and just lasted a few minutes. It was only in our subdivision. To the west on the main Rd, Robinson rd, no rain, dry as ever. It got to the mid seventies yesterday also. Today it is suppose to be 80. I really believe this is our Indian Summer, hard frost or not.

I don't know how big a gust of wind, but it was from the north and did a lot of damage around here. Our grill cover is gone. Chairs were blown around our deck. Our neighbor across the street lost a huge tree. I don't think I will forget the sound of that tree coming down. A very loud crackle. It was an old, huge tree. A transformer blew and I am sure some wires came down. We were without power 2-3 minutes. My guess on the big gust that did the damage was at least 50 miles an hour. Really wild. But, we got some rain out of the storm, if that is what you want to call it. .18 of rain fell and now it is 41 degrees and cold out.

It is still dark out, but the sun has been coming up between 7:30 and 8:00 each morning. It looks funny to look out the windows and see the daylight so early, but it is nice. Doesn't feel like we are in total darkness forever, it just gets dark so early now, but that is fall and winter.

It is clear right now and the sun is getting ready to come up. Another beautiful day yesterday, but we are told this is the last of the great weather. Winter will soon come back, or at least the colder weather. It was at or near 65 degrees out yesterday, which I think was the warmest temperature of the week.

It rained very hard at times yesterday afternoon and also in the early evening. We were under a tornado watch for a while last evening. The temperature I do believe broke a record set in 1990 yesterday. We made 61 degrees or higher. It was warm. I thought it would be colder this morning, but it is not. Things are quite wet out, but with the small wind, things will dry up quickly.

11/26/2010 4:00 AM 0.30 M M M M Yes, even though I am reporting at 6:10 at night, I did indeed take my precipitation observation at 4 this morning before heading out to do Christmas shopping. And I have to say there were many as nuts as myself out at that time. It was very cold this morning. My gauge said it was 21 degrees. There was a wind, so I know the wind chill was in the single digits. It was snowing throughout the day, but I did not see any measurement to take on my snow board and in the tube. The wind was wicked this morning and just whipped right through you. I did no standing out in the weather, but waited in the car for the biggest line, which was at Menards, it was packed to the gills. There is still a wind right now and it is still very cold. My gauge says that it is 27 degrees and with the wind, I know we are probably in the teens with the wind chill. Winter is really here and right in time for Christmas shopping. All the standing water is frozen around the yard.

There was a 1/2 inch yesterday, which makes a total of one inch on the ground right now. It is not as cold, it is 23 degrees out and the roads are snow covered. But, in my county, they will be and I am waiting to see what the main roads look like. The county is cutting back on plowing anything and I am leaving early, to go much slower to school.

We had beautiful sunshine yesterday, it was great and the sun was so warm coming through the windows at school. But, it also melted a lot of the snow on the ground and the ice that was underneath. There are just patches of snow in little areas around the yard. But, we should be getting some more snow tonight and on Sunday. It was kind of foggy this morning when I looked out the window.
12/12/2010 9:00 AM 0.50 2.0 0.14 2.0 0.14 It is 34 degrees out right now. This will be a different report from anything I have reported before. This is a combination of rain and snow. When I looked out at 4:00 this morning, it had been raining, but there was nothing going on. I figure that the snow started around 5 or 6 this morning. There is about 2 inches on the ground and there was the same amount on my snow board. In the gauge, there was .50 inches of precipitation. .14 of it is melted snow, the rest, .36 is rain that fell yesterday, last night and this morning before the snow. There is a lot of moisture on the ground, wet snow and water in our back year. The snow is very wet and heavy. It is snowing quite steady right now. At times it is a lot heavier than others. The reports all say totals of between 8 and 11 inches of snow. Could there be a snow day tomorrow? I know a lot of teachers who a wishing for one, even though this Friday is the last day of school before vacation. There are a few students wanting a day off tomorrow also. I don't really care, with Jackson County and the way the roads are kept up now, could be maybe a two hour delay, we shall see.
12/13/2010 9:30 AM 0.50 5.0 0.50 5.0 0.60 It is very cold right now. About 16 degrees. The roads are in not good shape at all. The wind is blowing from the NW and is very cold. It has blown the snow all over, so in one (I thought) protected area, I measured 6" and in another I measured 5". The snow board was of no help at all. I snowed all day yesterday and into the evening. We have had many accidents on the roads, mainly because people don't know how to slow down and drive safely. I did go out to a baby shower and it was bad. I passed an accident where the car hit a pole head on. You could see the tracks, slid right off the road into the pole. We also had a bad accident on I-94, which resulted in a fatality. All the schools are closed from the border of MI right up past Lansing MI. This is not as bad as it could be, but it is fridgid and that I believe is the prime reason for no school and the bad roads.

Nothing is melting, so the roads are still icy and dangerous. There is school this morning in Jackson County. Other counties around us have cancelled school, but they are more rural and the buses would have a very hard time getting around.

It was raining last night when we went to bed, quite hard in fact. It was also 55 degrees out at 1:00 am this morning. Yesterday was very warm for this time of year. Made you think of spring, which is too far off right now. It was very gray yesterday, along with all of the rain and it is very gray right now. Our yard is saturated and the streets are still very wet. All of the snow is gone, except for the big piles, which are slowly melting away. All you see basically in the neighborhood is yellow-green grass. There is a slight wind, which makes it feel a little cooler this morning.

This morning, it is 8 degrees, very cold. The sun is out though, so tht makes you feel better, to see sun, even though it is very cold out. In my measuring area, there was 5.5 inches of snow this morning. With the sun out all day, even though it was cold, there was not as much snow as this morning. Yes, there was wind and that could have blown things around, but in my area that is protected, 5 and 1/2 inches is what I had.

It looks like the same on the road, which is also snow covered. There looks to be some fog out and they are closing schools around the area. Ours closed at 5:30, which surprised me, but they caught me right before I was getting ready to leave. There were already two teachers at school. The science dept are all full of early birds. We have so much to do, it is easier to come in to get things done. School starts at 7:30, but an hour and a half to two hours does make a difference. Most of the schools in the county are either delayed two hours or closed. The temperature is suppose to drop later on, so that must be what school officials are thinking. We will be getting a wintery mix later on this morning with the temperature drop. The snow is really packed down with the rain, so even though there is only 4.5 to measure, the melted value was the same or near to yesterday. We are starting to have freezing rain again. This will be a messy day.

I noticed that our furnace ran constantly yesterday and there was a wind, so there was wind chill. I am ready for spring, which is a long way off.

Also on the outside and the snow was quite crusty on top. A very nice coating, I would say. It is 25 degrees out right now, rather balmy. Reminds me of a snow in March, where the temp is up and it just feels like it could all melt quite fast if it got warmer, even with 6 plus inches. It is a very nice day for a walk outside. Cloudy right now, but then it has been for the last few days, no sun at all. Their is snow on all the branches of the trees and it looks very pretty and the streets are snow covered.

Even though there was no sun at all yesterday, it was very mild and there was some melt. There is 6" of snow this morning measured and .70 of melt. The sun is out this morning, but it is colder, around 13 degrees out. The sun looks wonderful however. We are under a storm watch, so next week instead of 6 inches it could end up a lot higher, we shall see.

Our weather radio went off at 3, with the blizzard warning that will go into effect this afternoon. The snow is light and fluffy and was easy to shovel. The next 24 hours will be interesting. Off to school to get work done, as I know we will not be there tomorrow and I am sure Thursday, Friday would not be surprising to me. Time will tell and the snow begins. It has been interesting as a science teacher to talk about this snow storm to my students, as most have never really experienced a storm with this much snow, if we get what is predicted, which can be anywhere from 10 to 12 to 15 inches or more. Around here, at least from the last 70s, like 78 or 79, there has not been a major storm like this. Will be interesting to see what they think.
2/2/2011 6:15 AM 0.80 7.0 0.80 14.0 1.45 It is 17 degrees out right now. There is drifting all over the yard. Schools are cancelled all over the county. There are drifts of about 2 feet in the back yard and there are areas of maybe 4 inches of snow, right up against the garage. Overall, it looks to be about 13-14 inches on the ground total. In the front yard, again, there are drifts of 2 foot and drifts of 17-18 inches. Average depth of the snow in my front yard is 14". I would say we got about 7" snow here added to the 7" that was already on the ground. Over a foot of snow is not bad. We have not had that much on the ground in quite a while. But, this was not as bad of a storm as they said that it would be. It is still snowing lightly and the wind is still blowing, so there still is drifting and it is very cold out. I would say that the back roads would be a mess with the drifting. My school district has a lot of country roads, that is where our problems are, so it is a good thing that school was closed today. It was blowing very hard last night around 10:00 to 12:00. Not many people are out on the roads this morning in the neighborhood and my husband did go to work. We did not loose power here, but I am told we do have some power outages around the county. Interesting morning to be sure and really, I am glad we did not get as much as they said we would. At least we will be back in school tomorrow, I am sure. Lots of work to do to get ready for exams and ACT.

There is a nice wind out this morning also. Many puddles in the street from the melting snow.

When I got up to go to the store at 7:00, the sky was a beautiful red in the east. Kind of ominous though and what is that saying? Red sky at morning, sailors take warning, well, by the color, I would say we are going to get something. There is very little if any snow left. What is left is in mounds or piles. A little here and a little there. There is one pile left in our yard and it is on our patio, nothing in the yard.
2/21/2011 6:00 AM 0.91 5.0 0.91 5.0 0.90 It is very interesting this morning. Very erie out when the wind blows, it sounds like it is sleeting when the limbs of the trees move. It is 25 degrees out, but I know it is a bit colder because there is a wind. The snow is nice and crunchy and hard to shovel. A neighborhood cat walked across the lawn and stayed right on top of the hard crusty snow. There is 2/16 of ice on one side of the tree limb I measured and 1/16 on the other, for a total of 3/16 of ice or .02 of ice here. The roads in my subdivision are snow and ice covered and I don't know about the main roads. We do have power, so I figure we were lucky. We are still under a winter storm warning that has been extended because there is more snow and sleet/rain coming at us for today. We are lucky that the schools are closed because of President's day today. Wonder if we will have another day off tomorrow? It will help me get my exams written and ready to go for the end of the tri-mester. So, we have .02 of ice on the trees and bushes, 5 inches of snow on the ground, with a nice icy crust on top and .91 of melted precipitation for this mornings report. Have a great Monday!! It was very hard to get this report in this morning. It took me about a half hour to get all the information in.

What fell last night was light and fluffy. Much different than what fell on Sunday and Monday. Our road still is not plowed, but we shall see what today brings. The schools in this area are all cancelled today because of the condition of the roads. We had a total of 2 more inches that fell yesterday and last night.

A few flurries through out the day, here and there, but nothing much. Last night everything froze on the streets and there were many accidents around because of that. Melted it came to about .70. I was finally able to get down to get everything up. It has been frozen for the last couple of days, so I could not get a good reading for what was on the ground melted. It is still raining and I have about 1 to 1/12 inches of standing water in my back yard, near my house where is it a little low. We are going to pump it away from the house today, so we don't get alot of water in the basement. I did not notice it on the way to school yesterday morning at 6 am, but by 7 am, the roads were a sheet of ice all around us, with many accidents. There are 3-4 teachers that come as early as 5:00. I am usually there by 6:00 to 6:15 and yesterday missed the 2 hour delay call. Nice work time for 2-3 hours, but I really am glad I got to school before things started to freeze all around us. In fact, I was told the road I came to work on at 5:55, which was just wet had turned to pure ice by 7 am. Shows that you never know what is going to happen each day, especially in the month of March. Stay dry.

I think we got a little more than was forecast. On the ground there is about an 1 3/4 inches. We had a bit of rain yesterday first and a lot melted. Then it started snowing late in the afternoon and snowed quite a while. Melted from the tube I got .29 and on the ground was .31.

The streets are flooded, it is slight, but still there is standing water, as there is in our yard, again. The gauge showed .83 of rain and it is 59 degrees out. We just finished a thunderstorm. Yesterday lived up to the hype. It was 83 and beautiful.

It rained all day long, most of the time quite hard. Then it did rain over night to bring the total to 2.00 inches of rain in a 24 hour period. The temperature is 59 right now and though cloudy, it is not raining. At least yet.

I don't know if it will dry out today or not. We had a big storm come through to the northeast. We got lots of rain and wind, but not much more. Lightning was sharp, but again, nothing damaging. I recorded .31 from last night to this morning. Last night there was .29 after about an hour, but the other came overnight. The temp right now is around 70. You can feel the humidity and do believe the reports that it is going to be a hot day today. Happy Memorial Day! Thank a Veteran!

My husband told me that the tornado sirens went off for about 5 minutes in this neighborhood. I did not hear them as I was traveling home, however, I did come upon a hugh tree that came down in the road that was being monitored by the police. The storms were all around us, but all we got was this little bit of rain. Counties to the east had storm warnings and some severe storms, but we missed all of those.

Mostly thunderstorm after thunderstorm. Nothing severe, but just a steady rain and then some hard rain with a little wind and thunder and lightning. I measured 1.75 inches of rain in the gauge this morning, starting from yesterday afternoon until this morning at 6:15. It is 73 degrees right now and a little muggy. Our backyard is saturated and there are puddles in the street. It is still raining.

My weather monitor went off with a severe storm warning at about 2:30 and sure enough, we got it, really good. It rained very hard, with wind and lots of lightning. It seemed to go on forever, but I believe lasted about an hour, then things calmed down, but it has still been raining since. Not hard, but steady. The streets have puddles and our yard is saturated. Any more and our basement will be accepting water deposits from the back yard. Everything is soaked.

I am a new grandma of a baby girl and spent the last 24 hours with my daughter at the hospital while she gave birth to Ellery Ann. It had rained though from the day before. It was cloudy all day the day before and was suppose to be a great day today. However, it is still a bit muggy out and was cloudy all morning. The sun came out in the afternoon. It was still a lot cooler than the days before.

We were under a tornado warning for almost an hour. It has almost been 24 hours since we lost power. Lots of leaves down, branches, stickes, nothing big on this side of town. It has rained off and on all day today and the temperature is very nice. The temperature droppd very quickly last night as the storm went through and the clouds were moving very fast.

This happened at least 3 times in the afternoon. It was nice and cool all day long and looks to be another comfortable day today. It was nice to finally get our power back after almost 24 hours. Did not loose any food in the refridgerator, but another few hours and the freezer stuff would have melted.

We had storms come through once again last night. We were under severe thunderstorm warnings until 9 last night, along with a tornado watch until 1 am this morning. It was very humid yesterday afternoon, but it sure is nice this morning.

9/4/2011 9:30 AM 0.66 M M M M We have gotten lots of rain since last evening. It is 73 degrees right now, cloudy and it really is not humid. We have lots of people in the county without power because of the storms that went through around 6pm last night. The streets still have standing water in them and in our year, the grass is still very wet. The windows on the south and west sides are still all wet because of the blowing rain. When the first storm went through last night around 6pm, the winds were very strong, 30-40 miles easy. We have small limbs down, along with lots of leaves all over the yard. Lots of lightning, almost continous came with this storm, as well as heavy rain. Storm warnings were all around us, but we were the ones getting hit. Unusual, but our storm warning came after the storm had passed. Kind of reminds me of years ago when that happened all of the time. It was sort of surprising, I have to admit because it was quite obvious that we had a severe thunderstrom and should have been under a warning for that particular storm. Other storms passed through, but were just heavy rain and lightning and thunder. Fireworks were cancelled for last night, hopefully they will be able to go off tonight.

The streets have puddles in them. Yesterday was sunny until the afternoon, around 3 or so, when it started raining and continued into the evening.

There is a slight breeze. Yesterday, it rained off and on throughout the day, sometimes quite hard, othertimes it was like a mist. This went on from early morning through the evening hours and resulted in .40 inches of rain.

Around 5 o'clock, it got cloudy and started to rain. It rained very hard, at times the sun was shining and did this for about an hour or so. Then it cleared up and that was it.

There was .27 in the rain gauge from the rain that started yesterday afternoon around 4 o'clock. It started to rain a little and then quite a bit harder and kept on for most of the evening. It was a perfect fall night, with rain, cool weather, dark. Hopefully, it won't be like this for too long and we can get back to a little bit of nice warmer weather before fall and winter do set in.

The sun never did come out, but at least the rain went away, even though we needed it, it made for a gloomy day. It will not be fun going to work this morning. The visability is less than a 1/2 mile. Being a rural school district, we in other years would have had a delay, but the last two years no, not until someone gets hit waiting for a bus again, then we will. That is what usually has to happen for delays to start up. Today is suppose to be cool, in the 60s, not the usual Sept day.

It did not cover the patio like snow as it did in the city, but there it looked like little white stones all over the patio.
