Many cloud to ground lightning strikes, heavy thunder and wind that did not rise to level of severe. No damage or power outage in this neck of the woods anyway. Clearing today with another system arriving late 3/22 that, depending on track and temperature, may bring a nasty winter mix to the area. No drive on ice, rather not end up on a you tube clip, so mark me off weather, please. Stand by.

Liquid puddles remain on driveway and street/sidewalk is damp. Driving impacted somewhat account bridges and ramps freezing up as temps have dropped steadily since the event began. At 0025 a short, sharp moderately heavy T-storm moved thru leaving 1/4" hail in it's wake most of which was still evident on the car and deck at obs.

Again, the potentially severe t-storms forecast did not materialize but instead remained south and west as the atmosphere stabilized during the evening. In other good news, the snowthrower, along with our collection of shovels, brooms and ice hogs have been stored serviceable for another season. Happy day.

Station missed the heaviest part of storms by just a few miles, if that. Heavy rain with strong wind but no damage or flooding. Still experiencing way below average temps for this time of year.

The fourth and final cell in Allegan county weakened rapidly and the system fizzled out. The worst the system had to offer, hail, high winds rotation and funnel clouds, passed to the SE with the closest approach being the intersection of M-11/M-37. Station experienced brief, high rain rates during the morning preceding the arrival of the system and during it's movement thru the area. Wind damage in Allegan county from possible tornado and several people, including children, injured by lightning in Portage, Kalamazoo county.

6/22/2011 6:40 AM 1.27 M M M M Severe tstrms arrived in area approximately 1800 and finally blew themselves out by approximately 2030. Some trees down and street flooding west of MI-KN-8 with power outages throughout the county. Another line moved thru overnight but quickly lost strength after sundown and a trip across the big lake. More than doubled the monthly total in the last 36 hours. SPC forecasts a slight risk of severe tstrms today depending on how much convection the sun can achieve should skies clear.

7/11/2011 7:50 AM 0.00 0.0 M M M SPC has assessed a slight risk of severe tstrms until 1200 today and the NWS has issued a severe tstrm watch #625. Need the precip but not the drama.
7/12/2011 7:55 AM 1.00 M M M M Even readings happen but this, 1.00, is a first. Line of severe tstrms arrived MI-KN-8 0825 lasting until 0850 and leaving .83 in the gauge. Station at northern edge of event and did not suffer any wind damage or flooding. Second line arrived approx. 1045 and these tstrms were stronger than the first batch! Again station missed the brunt of the event receiving just .08" and very little wind, just enough to announce the arrival of the gust front. South and west of station significant wind damage, flooding and power outages (60,000+) occurred. The storms were strongest as they move onshore from the big lake and diminished as they moved inland. Winds ranged from 73-58 mph and video from the lakeshore looked similar to that of a hurricane. Sadly, one fatality was reported when a man moving to shelter had a large tree fall onto the garage he was moving through. Quite enough drama for one day. Calm, sunny and muggy today.

Six to eight inches overall with drifts nine to eleven as the wind was not about to let anything settle peacefully. Wet snow turned instantly to ice when clearing drive and walks. Strong winds a big factor in how and where to put the snow. Road conditions vary between wet pavement and ice. Drifting snow upping the grease factor on cleared, salted roads. Speedy motorists still finding the ditch this AM with the savvy finding it slow going. In the aftermath nearly 40,000 without power in counties south of Kent account ice and wind. Some will not have power restored until Friday 2/25.
