Overcast; calm; fine snowfall of < 1/16"
We basically had 24 hours of lake-effect snow today. With occasionally brief exceptions, the snowfall was very fine, but easily visible, unlike the two preceding days when the exceedingly fine and intermittent snow was difficult to see at times. |

Overcast, calm, and a fine flurry; this has been nearly another 24-hour event. Yesterday's measurement of 10.5" of snow/ice on the ground was my first in the eight years I have been reporting Lake Effect snowfall, and I made only a single measurement, which may have been high based on the three measurements I made this evening and then averaged. |

Mostly clear, calm + no precipitation; Lake Effect snow most of the day until early evening; I lingered for about 5 minutes to look for Geminids, but saw none. A setting, gibbous moon low in the western sky shone brightly, accompanied by Lake Effect bands to the southwest and east of me that were brilliantly illuminated by Rochester or the Towne Center at Webster, respectively; the band across the northern horizon loomed ominously dark gray against the black sky. I finished my time in the cold and snow by using my flashlight to follow the tracks of a deer past one of my stations before it crossed my driveway and walked alongside my car, until finally it crossed the street into a neighbor's yard, hunting for white acorns (Shirley and I had raked most of our acorns when we removed our leaves last month). |

Mostly overcast, very slight wind + no precipitation; snow flurries began within minutes of finishing. I'm not certain if my measurements are correct, for I was away most of the day, and there may have been some melting due to possible sunshine at midday and during early afternoon. I observed considerable sunshine while traveling in other parts of Monroe County at those times, but do not know if similar conditions existed at home. At 0851 I made a measurement of 2.75" at one of my four stations as a reference, and during my official measurements nearly 16 hours later the depth of new snow at that same station was only 3.25". |

Due to the possibility of partial melting, I took a precautionary measurement at 1203 (partly cloudy, slightly windy + no precipitation). Some melting did occur during the partially sunny mid-afternoon. Overcast (with a few thin spots), slightly windy + very fine, ocasional snowflakes during the final measurements. Therefore, new snowfall is the sum of my two averages (I checked for the possibility of rounding errors). |
