I heard 'distant' thunders at 1:15p, and at 1:30p they were close enough I began to pick up the yard tools and head in. At 1:40p it was very close thunders and at 2:00p there was really strong, rolling thunders close by with rain at 2:10 and more thunders. Still a light rain with occassional heavier rains at 2:15p; 3:35; 4:50p still raining lightly; 4:48p it was a light sprinkle and then it was clearing. |

I woke up about 5a and saw flashes outside but didn't check to see if it was raining - did not hear any thunder nor heavy rain sounds - went back to bed until about 6a. Saw more flashes but head no thunders as I let out a cat and it was raining. It stopped enough before 'reading' time that I could go out and check the guage and was really surprised as the inner tube had run over into the cylinder. |

There was 0.01-in yesterday after 7:11a; 0.52 measured at 3:21p [this was in about 12 minutes and was reported to the Nashville weather center]; another 0.50 measured at 5:15p; and 0.11 measured this morning at reading time. What a sudden weather slam we had. It was blustery and windy all day but suddenly at 3:12p it began to rain so hard it was like it was foggy out and the winds whipped the trees back and forth so violently I was concerned there might be a tornado lurking in it. About 20 minutes and the violence passed and it was just rain and thunders again. We were under tornado watch #723 and later a severe thunderstorm warning and the winds. The thunders began here at 2:46p with the rain and thunders beginning about 3p. We needed the rain even though the garden is finished this year [except for onions and greens]. |

I measured 0.13 by 9:44a yesterday and there was another 0.02-in in the guage this morning for a total of 0.15 for the reporting period. Once the rain quit yesterday afternoon/evening, a misty fog-like vapor was visible and it hung around and this morning the "fog" was somewhat denser and I decided not to go out until it cleared. At 12:15p yesterday the sprinkles started and by 12:30p it was a heavier sprinkle. There was a light fog hanging from the ground to above the trees. It seemed it sprinkled or drizzled all day. It was lightly raining when I went to bed about 10:14p and was raining when I let a cat out at 3-something, and still raining when I got up this morning. It rained most of yesterday, some light, some really hard downpours. It stopped awhile about 11:55a and the sun tried to peek out but it was a losing battle. I measured 0.58 at noon. Later, it was not raining when I started the bath water, but it was raining when I looked out at 5:15p. It was still raining lightly when I went to bed sometime after 9:30p. I noted 0.06-in more rain in the cylinder this morning for a total of 0.64 for the reporting period. The wind was very strong with some gusts that rattled doors and windows and sent cats scurrying all over. I went out to pick up the mail and one of those strong gusts blew leaves horizontially and they hit me in the face - it hurt. I haven't been out to check for tree damage. There was a lot to be done after the last storm. Some smaller trees were leaning so much that I had them cut down too. |

Yesterday was very windy with some strong gusts and the road signs were framming back and forth on their posts and I wondered if they would "shake" the bolts loose and fall off. We had strong winds and heavy rain begin about 8:15p last night and it made such a racket the cats were looking about. When I looked out at 11:35p it was still raining. It was 37.9F here at 6:48a and I went out to check the guage and the steps and banisters had an ice layer which made the steps very slippery. There was also something that looked like "shaved" ice on the truck top and such so we may have had a bit of sleet? The temp has been dropping even from the first reading this morning. |

It began to sprinkle at 4:32p Monday and it was raining any time I looked out. At 8p it became very windy and swung the screen door such that it is damaged. We have had at least another inch of rain since taking the measurement. The streets are draining OK but the ground is pooling and the garden looks like a pond. I am uphill so most will drain off but someone downhill is getting a LOT of runoff. My neighbor has a huge drain pipe pass under the road on his property and it is pouring downhill like a "white-water rapid". Our 'seasonal' stream. It looks like another inch of precip in the cyclinder, so more to report for tomorrow. Lucky me, it was raining and I'd just taken the precip measurement when it began to rain quite heavily. I was wet but I missed being soaked. |

I had 2.19in from yesterday to dark and had to defrost what was in the cylinder this morning before I could measure it. I was amazed to go out and see there are still patches of snow "ice" around though it will likely be gone soon given the temps are rising ... it's 50.0-F at 11:38a. I hope I can do a more accurate measurement this next storm but it is hard to get to the guage when the steps are icy and the soil is slippery. I slipped in the soft mud yesterday and fell face foreward, God was merciful, I missed the dogpile, but I had to come in and change my clothes anyway as they were now wet and caked with mud. The guage is in the best spot for my lot but it is rather interesting to get to sometimes. I may have to find a way to afford a second guage to put in front near the driveway and perhaps be able to give some sort of daily measurements and then give the accumulation from the other one. |

Light dusting of sleet and icy paths, but no precip at the time I went out to check the cylinder. There was also some frozen precip in the tube but it was melted and measured. Temp was 35.3-F at 7:03a and is now 29.3-F at 10:26a. The temp has been falling since the snow began. We had sleet start at 8:06a and blowing snow at 8:15a, but visibility was acceptable. Some flakes are 'fat' and some are tiny, but fluffy, and some sleet is mixed in. It is still snowing and there is ground coverage. Something to report for tomorrow - *IF* I can get to the guage given the moisture and low temps. |

I went to Jamestown yesterday and was amazed at how much 'snow' was still on the ground along the way. There are pockets here and there in my area and even some is still on my back porch in spite of being fairly close to where the dryer vents outside. We've had a light drizzly rain for some time now so there will be something to report tomorrow. The LP gas tank was filled up this morning so I'm set for the next blast coming. |

I wasn't sure how to note the SWE. For what was in the guage = 0.06; the new snow was 2-1/2 with an SWE of 0.10. The total snow for yesterday was 3-1/4-in with an SWE of 0.24; the total overall snow was 4-1/2-in with an SWE of 0.33. There's higher drifts all around - on the back porch is about 6-in. At times the wind was blowing the snow off the roof and it was almost blizzard-like. The snow would come down from the east and then twirl from the west and go back eastward .. almost like a snow version of a 'dust' devil. Oh what a picture to have the snow on the pines and cardinals, like little red ornaments, sitting on the branches. FYI: At 2:20p there was 1/2-in new snow for a total of 2.5-in so far today [12/26] and 3-1/2-in combo new/old. I noted what the depths were when I measured this morning. Gives you the "settle" factor ..... |

It should be more but it spilled when pouring as there was ice in it and the ice hit the funnel and caused water content to splash out and the ice slide out and hit the sink. I managed to retrieve most of the ice but some melt occured and some slid down the drain. |

At 1:30p some is melting and some is sticking - it's above freezing here, Digital and spring temp are, 40.1F. There was 3/4-in snow at 2:20p and 1-in at 2:38p with an SWE of 0.06 The guage held 0.07-SWE. At 3:05p there was 1-1/4-in snow with an SWE of 0.07.This morning there was new snow - 1/4-in with SWE of 0.05; old snow with an SWE of 0.11; and the guage held 0.04-in melted precip. At lot of precip was melting as it landed on the ground, porch, sidewalk, etc. which made it very difficult to measure accurately. That's a large part of why I did so many checks so I could see what was there before it melted. I did my best given I am sick with an awful cold. |

At 7:47a [Sat] there was 4-in of snow to measure with an SWE of 0.29; the guage held 0.16. The sun was peeking out at 9:26a. This morning I measured 3/4-in old snow with an SWE of 0.32; new snow was a Trace. Yesterday there was 1" new snow by 2:30p and 1-1/2-in at 4:15p. This morning I measured 8-in snow pack; 4-1/2-in total new snow. There may have been more but it has been breezy to windy and snow flies everywhere. I was on the porch looking out and watched the wind blow the snow downhill. Kinda cool. I noted a high here of 27.7 at 2:16p and later noted it was falling. I am now fairly confident about the temps noted here as the 'Atomic' digital; the spring-loaded; and the new anemometer I bought are all basically "on the same page" as it were. FYI: I was finally able to get to the other guage and did an SWE of it's contents which collected the whole storm - 0.80. The snow pack has a bottom of ice and a hard crust on top which makes it very difficult to break it up. There was 1/2-in of snow on my collection site and there was still flurries when I went out to collect the sample. The collection had 0.05 SWE but the 'catch' in the cylinder was 0.13. No idea of why the difference unless it was due to the very windy conditions last night. We had showers that began about 1:10p yesterday, with rain about 1:42p before it began to snow about 7P last night and that may explain the higher water content in the guage versus the snow collection amount. It was rather windy yesterday and at 6:36 we had very strong winds that made it hard to open the front door and more rain. |

We received at least an inch of snow. I saw the first flakes here at 4p. yesterday and for awhile there was a flake here and a flake there, then about 5:40p big, fat, wet flakes began to fall and there was some wind blowing them about. It later calmed again to a few flakes here and there again and this morning I measured it. This afternoon, it has warmed up enough for the snow to begin melting. |

It warmed up to over 35-deg and a lot of the snow melted though there is still patchy ground cover and some 'drifts' against trees and such. After all the cold and snow and ice, this bright, sunny - although still windy - weather is very much appreciated. I went out and worked in the woods clearing winter storm tree debris up. There was a misty sprinkle falling this morning when I looked out at 6:39a and the cats came in damp. It was not "raining" when I let out the cats at 5:45a. The step stones, porch boards, etc. were all 'damp' and the one guage held some moisture but it wasn't measurable. The other guage had even less moisture in it - so reporting a TRACE. After such a winter do far, it was unbelievable to check the temp and note it was 58.7F at 6:39a. Won't appreciate the next cold 'slap' after this 'spring-like' break. |

Sprinkles began at 3:35p yesterday and basically has rained some amount since. It is still raining and I was a bit surprised to have so 'little' precip in the guage given how long it has been raining - but - the winds have been horrendous since last evening and so far today and perhaps that might account for the 'low' measurement. The ground is saturated, puddles in lower spots, the storm drains has a "white-water'rapid" coming out of it and water is draining downwards on both sides of the property. The ground is way to soft to walk on without sinking into it. Three days of drain after the last storm I sank down 4-inches. I wouldn't even attempt it now. I may end up losing more trees due to the saturation. First drought and then flood. |

I measured 0.24-in precip yesterday [Wed] at 1:24p and 0.44-in precip at 6:59a this morning. It was very blustery and rainy though not a lot seems to have landed in the guage for measuring. The soil is saturated and puddled and too soft to walk on. How the cats are able to walk across the sloppy garden and not sink into it has me puzzled. I'd sink past my ankles right now. FYI: today seems to be a mixed precip day - rain, sleet, snow, rain, snow, ........ something to report for tomorrow. so far nothing is really sticking and accumulating long enough to measure anything and in spite of all the snow fall there isn't much in the guage. Windy conditions make it very hard to capture. It was rather "blizzard" like before 2p but it wasn't heavy enough nor lasted long enough to count. We'll see what it looks like in the morning. |

12:34p - a cat came in damp but didn't see anything. at 2:22p we had a heavy downpour; 64.1F and lost TV signal; 2:23p even heavier; 2:24p Wow! Then it misty drizzled and at 3:08p I heard thunders; 3:10p closer thunders; 3:14plus closer thunders and heavy downpour and still pouring at 3:18p and then done. More thunders and lightning at 7:10p and tornado watch #58. I saw a few penny-size hail but neighbors closer to Franklin Loop both had quite an amount of large hail - one said it was about golf-ball size, the other didn't say. Guage 1 held 2.15-in; guage 2 held 2.09-in for an average I suppose of 2.12? I heard rolling thunders at 3:17p yesterday and by 3:22p there were closer and with heavy rain downpour. There was a tornado reported in Algood with damage; 3:36p heavy rain and thunders, lightning - a squally type rainfall. Dopplar reported tornado warning at 3:54p - heavy rain, strong winds whipping trees back and forth, lights blinking; 4:15p mostly just stormy now. 5:06p - still thunderings, light to regular rainfall; 5:19p - still thunders rolling with new ones sounding; 6:15p - still rollling thunders; 7:23p still flashing and booming and this one shook the house for several seconds; 7:33p - this flash lit up the outside and near immediately rolled and shook the house big time; 8:45p - still flashing, booming, windy and raining. Winds blew rain up covered porch to the front of the house. What a storm but thankfully it wasn't so violent 'here' but I've heard Jamestown and Crossville had damages. I measured the daily precip for yesterday and then it started sprinkling again about 7:01a -> 7:08a - more thunders; 7:20a - sky got *VERY* dark, thunders, light rain, gusty, there was a weird yellow color to the light ..... then it was over and it all cleared as if nothing had happened. I measured 0.03-in precip for that storm. We were under Severe thunderstorm watch #352 until 2p. I went to Jamestown, TN and all was OK until about 2p as I was in a store and the NOAA alert went off on a responders radio and then the sirens went off and so I headed for Wal-MArt as it is a more sturdy store and I just made it inside when the "bottom dropped out" , it was really dark out and the store lights were blinking, hard rain [and possibly some hail] was pounding on the roof, after a bit, the store began to become warm and the A/C may have gone out. Then it was over and the sky cleared and was blue and it was as if nothing happened except the parking lot was heavily puddled and there was some rather wet people in the store. I then went to the Vets and found out that the storm had knocked down a tree and it landed on one of the workers truck and dented the rood, hood and fender and broke the support for the rear-view mirror. I saw a sign of some sort, maybe 3x3-ft in size, blown up into and stuck in a trees branches. There was tree parts, leaves, small brances blown all about on my way home so it had to have been very gusty. I don't know how much it rained in Jamestown, but when I got home I measured 0.45-in for here making the total 0.48 for the reporting period. Today I went out in a different direction and saw downed trees, and small branches and leaves blown all over. Small but violent storm it seems like it was. |

I got little sleep overnight as the NOAA radio kept going off with various county watches. I have more than just Fentress as it gives me a heads up as to what may be heading here. It was so persistent one time that I got up [12:33a] and turned on the TV to check the weather. It didn't look good but went back to bed to get what sleep I might could before anything hit here. Today has been just awful, so something to report tomorrow. |

I measured 0.04 by 7:32a; 0.26 more by 10:17a; 0.21 before 12:56a; and 0.12 by 7a. It was windy, with periods of thunders and misty to pouring rain. The weather was so terrible Thursday morning that I cancelled a doctor's appointment in Crossville as I have to go through three "passes" to get there and my little car only weighs in about 3,xxx pounds. Later in the afternoon it was lots better but I noted flashes and booms at 7:24p and that it was raining at 8:12p. |

At 3:00p there were grumbles, a few splats here and there, later thunders and the wind became rather gusty and it became rather a yellow-ish color outside and then got very dark out. Didn't note times for changed. The cats were behaving rather oddly and were running in, then out, then in and down to the basement and then up and out again. We later had a short, hard shower about 4:08p and I measured before 4:22p We were under Severe thunderstorm Watch #430. The it was clear and bright and was as if nothing has happened. |

We had a sudden storm pop up and there was strong gusts, lots of lightning [some so close the booms hurt my ears and I 'ducked' at the flashes]. I believe there was some small hail mixed in with the hard rain as the rain was clear and white 'drops' were mixed in with it but they melted really quick in the heat. I heard far off thunders about 10:50a, then really close ones at 11:20a and splats and when I looked out at 11:26a it was a downpour. Still raining and thunders at 11:38a - so close it hurt my ears. 11:50a a really close boomer. By 12:04 the worst was past and it was more of a shower with the thunders moving away and getting fainter. NOAA radio didn't broadcast a warning until 11:44a. We likely had near 1/2-inch rain in about 30 minutes. |

I left for Crossville a bit after 9a Wednesday Morning and it was starting to rain before I'd gone 5 miles and got worse most of the way to there. I was starting to leave Crossville when I was asked about returning home and that there was a warning out about the weather and not to travel towards Jamestown if one didn't have to. So I went to Wal-Mart and wasn't hardly in when the "bottom dropped out" there. Then the sun came out and I headed for home rather than more shopping. It began to rain again as I traveled and the last pass into Clarkrange was really foggy. I measured 1.13-in precip at 3:26p when I got home and we still were having rain, thunders and flashes, one so close I checked to see if a tree had been hit - No. By 4p the rain had mostly quit but there was still grumbles and flashes. This morning I measured another 0.06-in for a total of 1.19-in precip for the reporting period. |

At 10:17a the storm is nearly over here, thunders, winds; very dark with moderate rain at 10:28, heavy rain and lots of flashes and thunders by 10:34 to 10:50a, more moderate rain after. Heavier rain at 12:30p. I measured 0.93 by 11:10a, and another 0.31 after 12:34p and before 3:02p. I measured another 0.03 this morning for a total of 1.27-in precip for the reporting period.
Significant report sent yesterday:
Heavy rain began at 10:28a and there was lighting flashes, some quite close; stormy enough to lose the satellite signal for over 10 minutes. I Know we had more rain than this [it is still raining and thundering] but I watched a lot of rain miss the Cocorahs cylinder. Same for areas on the porch and railing. Some spots got lots of splats and other spots received few. I took the measurement at 11:10a when the rain slowed down enough to go out and empty the cylinder and not get so wet and the flashes weren't quite so close. Another band is coming so there will be more precip. to report. |

I heard grumbles at 3p; at 4:30p there was a severe thunderstorm warning for eastern Cumberland County [next down]; at 5:48p there was a close 'crack' and splats and it was pouring hard by 6:06p. At 6:13p there was really strong winds, whipping the trees, bending over the sunflower and squash plants, a very heavy downpour almost like a solid sheet of water, and lost TV satellite signal twice. I didn't note much more as I was trying to accomplish a few things but I heard thunders and then grumbles for some time. |

We had a downpour between 5:12p and 5:58p - 0.10-in but we had much more given how hard it was coming down but a lot wasn't hitting in the guage. Same for later when I measured at 8:20p and only had 0.08-in. We were under a tornado watch #541[?] at 4:35p to 8p, and a Severe thunderstorm warning to 5:15p. At 5:12p there was splats and thunders, strong winds, lights blinking, and at 5:18p it hit hard. At 5:45p that storm was over and the sun came out. 6:34p - more hard rain and a tornado warning to 7:15p. I was outside at 8:25p and I could see dark clouds, flashes and thunders heading north [Allardt direction] and building rain clouds heading south-east towards Crossville area. At 9:56p there was another thunderstorm; again at 10:26p, lost TV signal, downpour and thunders. I actually lost the TV signal several times because of the heavy rains. Given the amount and duration, I really think that here likely received closer to 2-in. At times the yard had about 1/2-in standing water that drained between storms. |

At 11a I noticed fast moving clouds coming out of the NE, which is like a "back door" here for storms. Then the lights began blinking and going off a few seconds , then came the wind-driven rain and I lost the TV signal and had no DSL internet either. At 11:24a the power went off. I measured 0.98-in precip at 11:47a [30 min, or a bit less than 30 minutes, of downpour]. At 1:05p it was sprinkles, then at 1:10p we had light rain. The power was back on at 2:05p but it wasn't steady for some minutes [lights blinking]. At 7:15p I measured another 0.13-in and this morning there was another 0.01-in for a total of 1.12 for the reporting period. |

We really needed a nice long, soft rain as even the black-eyed Susans are wilting very much and the last squash plant has been struggling even with my watering but I think it is about to give up. Only a few pepper and tomato plants are left and the tomato plants look awful and the fruit is generally unusable. |

Watering isn't doing much more than keeping things alive, it's so dry the ground is hard even after watering. And I mean "water", not spritz. The sanitation operator said it was dry and hard 2-feet down and he was having a time trying to dig up septic lids to pump them out. |

Dry, dry, dry, even the weeds are shriveling and the trees are dropping leaves such it looks like fall is half over rather than just starting. Between the bugs and the dryness, the garden went south and I only have a few tomatoes and peppers still trying and most of those are in planters that I can water well several times a day. |

RAIN!!!!!!! I measured 0.23 by 2:50p; 0.04 more by 3.58p yesterday; then 2.18 by 6:26a and another 0.12 by 7a this morning. Bands of rain split as they passed this area and reformed past here but finally we began to receive a nice, soft, steady rain that is still falling. It may be too late for some trees and bushes to recover for this year but hopefully they can survive winter and come back out next spring. I may lose some trees anyway. |

I recorded 0.85 by 10:13a, with another 0.93 by 6:45p yesterday [1.78]. This morning I measured another 1.74-in precip for a total of 3.52 inches of rain for the reporting period. The rain has mainly been a soft, steady rain with an occasional downpour and breezy but at times very gusty winds. Overnight must have been rather gusty as I looked out before 6a and the yard is "plastered" with green and yellow leaves and small branches with leaves. Unable to go out back to see if anything came down in the wooded parts of the property. What grass that is left is greening but there are lots of bare spots. This cooler weather [59.2-F] is really nice for a change from the heat and if it wasn't so wet, I'd be working in the yard getting it ready for winter, but the rain is cold as is the temp. Shiver ....... Given this nice deep watering, I may plant beets and winter squashes after all. |

I was a bit surprised to notice how much rain was coming down and how little was hitting the guage opening. I now better understand the saying about 'running between the raindrops'. So I would say we've had a bit more than I've had to record during this tropical storm and the cold front. We've really needed it. |

Ahhhhh, the sun is out. The grass was very wet this morning and there was a slight fog over the area but it disipated with the suns rising. The cats are lying in the sun streaming through the windows. A bit chilly out as yet [67.3F at 10:39a], but if it follows yesterday's pattern, it will warm up rather nicely by the afternoon. |

It was a dreary, drizzlie, rainy day with lots of wind and tree-swishing gusts. I walked out into the back lot and picked up rather large tree branch parts. Lots more of all sizes yet to do. |

It showered or rained most of the morning, this was measured yesterday afternoon, then it stopped, was cloudy and windy, and then the sun came out and it warmed up quick. Without the rain it would have been a nice day to work outside. |

I heard fairly close grumbles, then rolling thunders at 2:20p and then showers were falling about 2:30p. It was still sprinkling and grumbling at 2:43p, then a rain shower at 3p. The rain is in bands, and there is "dry" spots between rains. Thunders at 3:40p, 3:45p, showers at 5:28p and more grumbles at 5:30p At 6:41p there was still a misty, drizzlie type rain and it looks a bit foggy out. Chilly and a light fog when I looked out this morning at 6:43a. |

There was misty sprinkles after the morning reading time and some light rain about 9:03a. I went out and it looked as if it had rained more towards Jamestown than where I am. It was quite foggy out last night but was clear this morning - for a bit - then it got quite foggy again as the sun rose and was still so at 9a. It is now mostly clear. It was rathre chilly this morning - 47.0 at 6:34a but the sun is bright and it has warmed to 55.3 at 9:59a. The house was a chilly 66-deg when I got up and I had to turn the heat on for a bit to take that chill off. That time of the year - sweater in the AM, short sleeves in the PM. |
