10/25/2010 7:00 AM 1.16 M M M M Very powerful storms passed through overnight. First round at 3 a.m. brought lots of lightning, heavy rain and even some small hail. Second round brought lots of lighting, heavy rain and strong wind. Found out after the fact that the second round was actually tornado warned. Nearby Southern Adventist University was on tornado mode, with all residents moved to the basement of the resident halls. Significant weather reports were not submitted from this station because we unplugged the computers for the protection from the extreme lightning. Rain falling moderately at observation time.
10/26/2010 7:00 AM 0.25 M M M M Was raining at observation time yesterday, so this total is largely based on a couple hours of rain from 7 to approximately 9 a.m. Some scattered cells in the afternoon contributed as well, including a heavy downpour around noon. National Weather Service confirmed an EF-0 tornado 10-15 miles from this location. Bracing for another punch later today.

12/25/2010 7:00 AM T T T T T A slushy, wet snow started falling shortly before observation time. It was coming down when I checked the CoCoRaHs gauge. Melted what had fallen so far, but nothing measurable.
12/26/2010 7:00 AM 0.44 4.5 M 3.0 0.36 White Christmas 2010 The snow began to fall just before 7 a.m., and it was falling for the entire duration until 2:30 p.m. I noticed no wind, so the snowflakes were just steadily coming down. Just before 3 p.m., the snow stopped falling, and I took several measurements of the depth. It ranged from 4 - 4.25" Most of the measurements I took around the gauge was at 4". At my observation time, I noted that another .5" of snow fell overnight. Between the 4" during the day, and .5" overnight, I got my new snowfall total of 4.5" The core sample for "New Snowfall" is from 3 p.m. when I measured the 4". The melted value of what fell in the gauge = .42" @ 3 p.m. + .02" from overnight snow = .44" what I reported. UPDATE - Something went wrong in my measuring the new snowfall core. Therefore, I am taking that number out.

Chattanooga broke it's all-time 24 rainfall record from the official gauge at the airport. Previous record was set in March 1886. IMPRESSIVE!!!
