Wow! Finally we got the latter rain we have been crying for all month. It started sprinkling a little before midnight and quit well before daylight. It was a very nice partly cloudy morning and early afternoon with very heavy gusts of wind. Then it got very overcast with tornado warning. Schools were dismissed early and students sent home. Around 6:00 we got had a a hard rain giving us .46 in a few minutes. The other .79 came during the night sometime after midnight. We are very pleased in receiving close to 4.00 inches the past couple day after such a long period with so little precipitation. |

We have been experiencing real winter the last 24 hours. The temp kept dropping from the forties until it leveled off at about 31F during the daylight and we had snow flurries all day long. Just before midnight it started to snow. At 1:00 a.m. we checked out from work and started driving the seven miles home. When we left there was about an inch of snow but it was coming down so heavy we could not see. We crept along trying to stay in the middle of the back roads we were driving on. Going up a small hill we slid cross wise on the road and thought that was it for us but gradually we got squared around & finally got to the top spinning all the way. We parked at a neighbors and walked up the hill to our house. We were one hour making that drive and the snow had reached a depth of 4 1/2 inches and still coming down hard. This morning we measured 6 1/2 to 7 1/2 inches of snow but only measured .59 inch of melted water. It has stayed at about 29F since last night but very overcast. It is not snowing now but looks like it could start again any minute. |

The rain started right at 1:00 p.m. sprinkling lightly and then for half an hour it poured hard and then slowly tapered off again. We got plenty of thunder and lightning as well. Strong breeze came up and then a shower from the east started about 7:20 last evening which we thought would be short lived since the sun was still shining in the west, but it lasted for thirty minutes giving us 1.25 during that period of time; much more than we really thought came down. That was it and the moon came up. |
