5/11/2011 8:00 AM 0.32 M M M M Thank the LORD! We got rain and no fires! The sheet lightning woke me up around 2 A.M.and was off & on till 6 A.M.. My husband, Sam, had to to turn off the sprinkler in the yard around midnight & saw lightning far off to the SW and noticed a faint smell of smoke. He was then up every little bit checking for potential fires. The rain started around 5:50 and had small pea-size hail. The sheet lightning was every second/every second and a half at that time. Thank goodness we now have some moisture!

Storms were building to the south of us last night but then came east of us, missing us completely. We sure do pray for rain on our milo.

Thank goodness we were blessed with the 0.27 inches of rain because otherwise folks, including my husband and our hired hand, would have been fighting fires all night. The storm came out of the north/northeast which is unusual for us considering most storms go from west to east. Although they said there would be high winds, I didn't notice it; it was the frequend lightning that was so spectacular. So thank You, LORD, for the rain!

Although we have some green peaking out of the pastures, we're having more and more mule deer (up to 8 to 10) coming to the house for "manna" (bread). The ones who've been coming up for a while treat it like the Israelites (they're not excited about eating it but they finally eat it when there are no donuts or cookies) and the new ones scarf it down. It's understandable how God felt about the complaining of the manna.

My husband had to go out in the snow storm on Tues. nite & he stated the winds were blowing 50 mph with heavy snow fall... he believed we got 4 to 6 inches. Because of the wind, we had no snow in places in the yard & then 2 to 4 foot drifts in other places. Pleasant yes. but cold & pleasant this A.M. Although there was only 0.02 inches of moisture in the gauge, I'm sure the wind had something to do with that.

Now that our yard is devastated from all the critters, I can barely shoosh them away. They'll come up to the house & eat the cat food. The point is, it's not so green that all the animals are being fed by Spring/mother nature.

5/25/2011 5/29/2011 8:00 AM 5 0.00 M M We're dry as a bone...we had to pack up "stuff" for possible evacuation on Tuesday nite and kept everything in vehicles in case we really had to leave (which looked very possible on Tuesday nite). But thanks to the Good LORD, we're fine: our home, our land, our cattle and all the critters, all fine. The winds are constantly changing direction but at this point the fires are either out or are far enough away that we're not so worried. And thanks to the local fire fighters, (as far as we know) no homes have been burned down. We may be in a drought but we still have a lot to be thankful about!

Quite a relief from the 100+ degree days with wind we had for days earlier in the week. The north part of Amarillo looked like they were going to get a shower yes. in the early afternoon but nothing occurred (however, it did give us hope). Last night we saw thunderheads to the east of us around 8:00 so hopefully someone in the Texas Panhandle got some rain. At least, we're one day closer to rain!

There was LOTS of lightning and thunder with a fire started on one of our neighbors. Thank goodness, the rain put it out. Thank You, LORD, for the moisture! And a milo crop will be planted!

We've had some thunderheads form over us and just to the east but the rain seems to completely miss us and goes at least 10 miles east of us (we know that it misses our good friend who lives 10 miles to the east). The lightning shows sure have put us on edge and keeps my husband up at night. Because of the little moisture we received over a week ago, my husband planted milo seed but he states hardly any of it is coming up. Things are tough but we're staying faithful in prayer for rain.

Yesterday afternoon to evening we were attending my dear Aunt Marjorie's funeral; we saw rain clouds to the north but they were not close to our place at all. When we got home, we saw puddles in the driveway and 0.31 inches of rain in the rain gauge. I smile and think Aunt Marjorie must have whispered a request into God's Ear. Thank You, LORD, for giving us Aunt Marjorie and blessing us this day with the rain!

We need major rains to make any difference in the countryside. The weather forecasters may be trying to give us hope by stating things like, "Later next week, there's chances of rain." but they lie! They have no idea and they make us upset when it never comes to pass. They need to stick with what they know and stop there. We know that the Good LORD is taking care of us (& He is) but we're getting tired of our desert conditions. Thanks for letting me get this off my chest. I feel better now! :)

The rain stopped and the standing water soon soaked in. We thought the rain clouds to the west yes. evening may not make it here or go around us but something sure did make the moisture come! It seems to also be a slow soaker this A.M.. All I can say is, "THANK YOU, LORD!!!"

9/14/2011 9/15/2011 7:00 PM 2 0.78 M M Sorry, I did not report this morning the amount of rain we had gotten but ranchers/farmers (which my husband is both) hold to the old farmers' tale that you do not empty a rain gauge while it is still raining--it's bad luck and will "stop" the rain. It's been a nice, lazy, rainy day which would have been great to nap in if we hadn't had home school & dentists appts. Up the road at the farm,we got 0.5 inches. So, Hallelujah, and Thank You, LORD for the moisture!
