Observation Date Observation Time Precipitation Snowfall Snowfall SWE Snow Depth Snow SWE Notes
10/1/2011 7:00 AM 0.00 0.0 M 0.0 M Tmax: 70; Tmin: 49. Another "warm" low temperature record, more on this in my monthly report. Peak fall colors, more reddish than usual (aspen are trying mightily to make up for lack of diversity in deciduous tree species up here).
10/2/2011 7:00 AM 0.00 0.0 M 0.0 M Tmax: 69; Tmin: 48. Still quite warm, and glorious fall colors. Unfortunately, I had to leave to Fort Worth today...
10/3/2011 7:00 AM T 0.0 M 0.0 M Tmax: 68; Tmin: 45. A few sprinkles yesterday. Slowly dropping temperatures.
10/4/2011 7:00 AM 0.00 0.0 M 0.0 M Tmax: 66; Tmin: 44.
10/5/2011 7:00 AM 0.03 0.0 M 0.0 M Tmax: 63; Tmin: 44. Afternoon rain showers. Snow covered tundra from Mt. Evans south this morning (driving to the airport for another trip), but nothing to the north.
10/6/2011 7:00 AM 0.00 0.0 M 0.0 M Tmax: 57; Tmin: 38. Stand-up cold front approaching from west, setting the stage for weekend storm. Saw actual rain in Las Vegas yesterday...
10/7/2011 7:00 AM 0.05 T M 0.0 M Tmax: 59; Tmin: 25(!) - real killing freeze, with some wind to boot. FroPa yesterday around 2pm MDT, with temperatures in mid-30s and a hefty snow shower than only accumulated on grass (according to neighbor). Since none of this was left on snow board in evening, I will call it a trace. Some flurries with bora winds in late evening. Good shot at accumulating snow (will be disappointed if we get less than 6") tomorrow...
10/8/2011 7:00 AM 0.18 1.8 M 1.5 M Tmax: 45; Tmin: 25. First measurable snow of season, snowing very lightly this morning, most of this fell in last two hours.
10/9/2011 7:00 AM 0.36 4.7 M 4.0 M Tmax: 35; Tmin: 23. Snow continued through early afternoon, according to neighbors. One day later, snow was still visible on ground just above Jamestown by mid-afternoon. Measured 0.27" in gage with funnel in around 3:30pm today, estimated 0.07" of losses from snow cone on top of gage that built up during event. Ratio of snow:precipitation conservatively based on morning snow:ratios between 7 and 9am MDT before we had to leave yesterday (0.02/0.3"). Overall snow depth estimated as well.
10/10/2011 7:00 AM T T M T M Tmax: 42; Tmin: 28. Evening snow flurries and snow pellets, but not enough to amount to more than a trace. Snowcover just under 50%, hence a trace, but still a couple of inches on the roof (north side).
10/11/2011 7:00 AM T T M T M Tmax: 50; Tmin: 36. A few spill-over flurries/sprinkles this morning, just under half of an 0.01". There is still some snow left from three days ago.
10/12/2011 7:00 AM 0.05 T M 0.0 M Tmax: 50; Tmin: 32. Spill-over rain early last evening, followed by occasional flurries and snow pellets, never really sticking to ground. Pretty breezy.
10/13/2011 7:00 AM 0.00 0.0 M 0.0 M Tmax: 50; Tmin: 40.

10/18/2011 7:00 AM 0.04 T M 0.0 M Tmax: 46; Tmin: 25. Early morning rain (possibly mixing with snow, wasn't there), mostly cloudy all day, briefly calm after sunset and down to 30F by 7:30pm MDT, then some clouds and flurries with temperatures in low- to mid-30s. Fairly clear and calm this morning to allow for a rapid drop back into mid-20s.

Snow is clinging to slopes above treeline, while the last aspen leaves keep their brilliant fall colors for a long-lived finale, especially just below us (around 8K). Good cold front on track to hit us on Tuesday (4 days out), with highly variable snow amounts in the offing. Given the strong association of October snows (or lack thereof) with La Niña, I would be happy to see more than 4".

Another glorious sunrise, with scatter clouds to our east, moisture appears to be moving back in... This is it, storm is upon us, looking surprisingly wet in models, may give 2006 a run for the money for the daily snowfall record tomorrow (17"+)... Today's daily record of 35.1" (1997) remains unassailable...
10/26/2011 7:00 AM 1.42 16.8 M 14.0 M Tmax: 49; Tmin: 19. Snow began between 3-3:30pm yesterday, with some snow pellets thrown in. Since I had left funnel in, I can state categorically that it must have started as snow right away, since no water was at the bottom of funnel. Snow became heavy around 8pm, hitting 2"/h or higher for a while around 9pm, tapering back down to 1"/h or lower early this morning. Denser snow than expected at this point (still <15:1). Not looking forward to commute - taking it easy this morning. Lost power after 10pm last night, came back before 6am this morning.
10/27/2011 7:00 AM 0.25 3.1 M 12.0 M Tmax: 22; Tmin: 10 (surprisingly "warm"). Continuous light snow fizzled out after sunset, getting fluffy (>20:1) for the last inch or so. Storm total: 19.9/1.67" - 3rd biggest October snowstorm on record (since 1990). Clear overnight, but apparently not calm enough (with warm advection?). Snowpack is settling, with some melting (slush) from below as well.

10/31/2011 7:00 AM 0.00 0.0 M 4.0 M Tmax: 47; Tmin: 32. With all the wind in the last couple of days, there are more pine needles on the snow than I can remember, easily covering most of the "snowpack". Nevertheless, the coverage remains at least 80%, so there is good chance we won't trace out before tomorrow night, our next snowstorm.
11/1/2011 7:00 AM 0.00 0.0 M 2.5 M Tmax: 50; Tmin: 30 (dropping at observing time (7am)). Looks like a good chance for 8-14" around here tonight, assuming 3/4" of moisture. Definitely an active pattern, and not a moment too soon to yank us back from tracing out (coverage actually still close to 80%).
11/2/2011 7:00 AM 0.86 11.3 M 11.0 M Tmax: 33; Tmin: 15. Snow began around 6-6:30pm MDT, followed by 1/4" hail for a few minutes around 7pm MDT (there was some thunder according to one neighbor, but I did not hear it). Snow resumed shortly thereafter, and got moderately heavy (1"/h or higher for about 6-8h. Heaviest snow was between 9-10pm and around midnight (estimated 2"/h). All in all, about the amount of moisture I expected (but not as fluffy as anticipated, nor as cold). Still snowing lightly at observing time.

Put a little dent in snow"pack", all the needles that got blown onto it a few weeks ago are back on the surface, making for a very mottled impression. 12/5/2011 7:00 AM 0.17 3.7 M 16.0 M Tmax: 17; Tmin: -11 (right at 7am, still dropping). PM snow mainly from 3-11pm, starting out really fluffy getting denser as temperatures approached 0F last evening. Clear, calm, and cold this morning, still cloudy with flurries over plains. Am not sure it will get colder tonight, since arctic air will start retreating. Total in last five days: 1.46/31.2", not too shabby. Seasonal total through yesterday: 73.4" - 2nd only to 1997 in 22 years! Corrected snow depth, had erroneously entered the previous evening's reading.

Snow began around 4pm, surpassing 1"/h right around 7pm, totaling 9.4" (0.53") by midnight. Heaviest snow from midnight to 3am (7.5"/0.32"), with the final 5.6" in just over 3h by this morning's observation. Swirling north to northeasterly winds post-midnight kept powerlines clear, and knocked snow off east-facing railing. Still snowing steadily this morning, but at reduced intensity. Note that I had observed at 6:20am yesterday, hence the bigger total since then compared to neighboring stations. Storm total: 24.4", 2nd only to the December '06 storm one day earlier that dropped almost three feet on us. Snow depth peak around 27" in mid-morning, settling 3" since then. Clear this morning, comparatively mild. Total snowfall for the season: 98.5" which is actually a record by December 22nd, will be surpassed in a few days by 2006 (121" by month's end) and 1997 (103.3").

12/30/2011 7:00 AM 0.04 0.4 M 14.0 M Tmax: 41; Tmin: 27. Spill-over snow continued into late morning, with at least one snowy spell that accumulated. Winds came back later that day. Snowboard is somewhat useless under these conditions, so I am using a 10:1 ratio to estimate snow. Another key ingredient to this estimate is that overall snow depth did not change despite such a warm Tmax.
12/31/2011 7:00 AM T T M 13.5 M Tmax: 44; Tmin: 24 (dropping fast; was 39F right after midnight!). FroPa this morning, another windy morning, with flurries in the air. Looks like this week made up for lack of wind earlier this month.
1/1/2012 7:00 AM T T M 13.5 M Tmax: 39 before 7am yesterday, 22 after noon (did not reset until noon), and cold front came through right around 7am. Tmin: 15 last evening/18 after midnight. That low temperature occurred right around 5pm when the wind was still blowing around 40+ mph. Flurries in morning never amounted to more than a good trace. Less windy this morning (Happy New Year!), with partly cloudy skies. Re-broke ski trail this weekend after one week of blowing snow, but there is still more than a foot of snow on the ground on average.

1/8/2012 7:00 AM 0.28 3.8 M 15.0 M Tmax: 29; Tmin: 7. Snow began around 10-11am, but after a good stretch around noon, it just flurried until about 3pm when it started to pick up again, reaching close to 1"/h through 6pm. It was pretty much done by 8pm, a very early ending compared to expectations (models). Clear and mostly calm overnight, but the low was hit already by 3am or so. Good skiing this morning behind our house.
1/9/2012 7:00 AM 0.00 0.0 M 14.5 M Tmax: 27; Tmin: 11 (before midnight)/13 (after). Good skiing around the neighborhood both yesterday and this morning. Here is hoping for more on Wednesday!

1/11/2012 7:00 AM 0.02 0.4 M 14.0 M Tmax: 44; Tmin: 13 (a drop of 13F since midnight). Snowing lightly, FroPa was a few hours ago. Expect to see the first subzero reading of 2012 tonight, and an inch or two of additional snow, although the radar indicates heaviest showers already to the south.
1/12/2012 7:00 AM 0.11 2.4 M 15.0 M Tmax: 13 (low yesterday morning as well!); Tmin: -3 (around 7-8pm; +5 since midnight). Snow continued well into afternoon, with a few last flurries right around sunset, then a few gusts for excitement, blowing snow off the trees, and just a couple of hours of calm for the early evening sub-zero low. Breezy and chilly (5-10F) for the rest of the night. The wind compacted the overall snowpack by about one inch.

1/17/2012 7:00 AM 0.08 1.2 M 14.0 M Tmax: 32; Tmin: 02. Cold and windy night after late PM snow showers; FroPa around 4pm (neighbor's thermometer dropped from 26 to 16F in 1h). Good skiing at snowmass with about one foot of powder at the top, but nasty road conditions pretty much all the way from Aspen to home last night.
1/18/2012 7:00 AM T T M 13.5 M Tmax: 15; Tmin: 14 since midnight/03 yesterday morning. A raw day for the record books. Here is hoping for more spill-over snow after this morning's surprise dusting right before 7am.
1/19/2012 7:00 AM 0.02 0.2 M 13.0 M Tmax: 29 yesterday/32 after midnight this morning; Tmin: 17 yesterday morning/ 25 since midnight (rising temperatures overnight). My neighbor measured his highest wind gust on record yesterday (74mph), in about five years. Last night was not as bad as the night before, with off and on spill-over snow that collected to 0.02" in the gage, while the snowboard was blown free of snow. My footpath to my backyard measurement site is almost completely drifted over (1-1.5'), so I believe that the 0.2" of snow estimated here (and 0.02" of moisture) is a low-ball estimate.
1/20/2012 7:00 AM T T M 12.5 M Tmax: 43; Tmin: 29. Windy with occasional spill-over, may have been more than a trace, hard to tell, especially since evening spill-over fell at temperatures in the high 30sF. Best chance for snow tomorrow night and then around Tuesday.

2/3/2012 7:00 AM 1.24 26.5 M 35.0 M Tmax: 35; Tmin: 15. This must be March, isn't it?! Never seen so much snow in February, even on the ground. Still snowing at 2"/h, but the overnight totals are indicative of the same or higher rate for the last 12h! Should be good for continuous snowfall for the rest of today, will be interesting how much more fluff we can squeeze out of this ideal setup, reminiscent of the October '97 event! I won't hazard a guess, don't want to jinx it. While I took multiple measurements, note that the net snowdepth increase was 23" since yesterday evening!
2/4/2012 8:00 AM 0.67 19.2 M 43.0 M Tmax: 21; Tmin: 5. Storm totals: 45.7/1.91". There are some flurries that have redeveloped this morning, after it had stopped shortly after midnight. Deepest snowdepth: 46" at midnight. Mindboggling outlier storm, easily breaking my all-time February individual snowstorm and monthly records. Getting fluffier through event, with 40:1+ ratios for the last 8" or so. To the best of estimate, 1"+h snowfall rates lasted from just before 8pm on Thursday through the night until about noon yesterday (peak about 3"/h in early morning hours), and again from about 5pm until 11pm or so last evening (the 40:1 fluff finale). The only comparable storm that comes to mind was in October 1997 when I recorded over 56" out of 2.7" or so and the snow depth peaked well before the event was over, since snow started settling during event then, too. Would not surprise me if it dropped another 6" today.
2/5/2012 7:00 AM 0.01 0.3 M 38.0 M Tmax: 25; Tmin: 6. Last flurries ended before noon. Storm totals now: 46.0/1.92". Snow settling - lost 5" since yesterday morning. Based on water content of storm I expect to end up around 30" in the next few days (plus a little snow tomorrow night?!). Still blissfully calm and mostly sunny this morning.
2/6/2012 7:00 AM 0.00 0.0 M 34.0 M Tmax: 31; Tmin: 7. Snow still settling, but it is becoming slightly easier to break trail... Still no wind!
2/7/2012 7:00 AM 0.14 5.0 M 35.5 M Tmax: 25; Tmin: 02. Evening snow was just about as fluffy as they come, with 0.11/2.9" by midnight, and another 0.03/2.1" by 7am (two measurements total). This reversed the drop in snowpack which had gotten down to 32" as of 5pm yesterday (a drop of 14" in just under three days, starting from midnight Friday night). Looks like it will stay chilly and slightly unsettled through the next week or two.
2/8/2012 7:00 AM 0.02 0.6 M 33.0 M Tmax: 17; Tmin: 02 (both yesterday morning and early evening/08F since midnight). Lingering light snow in morning yesterday, and also overnight as it was warming up (7F at midnight, 15F by 7am).
2/9/2012 7:00 AM T 0.2 M 30.5 M Tmax: 32 (revised high after scrutiny of my i-button records); Tmin: 18 (since midnight; 15 yesterday 7am). Spill-over flurries last evening (it was also the first day since February 1st with noticeable wind) that may have been under-measured in the gage. Mostly cloudy this morning, with snow still falling towards the divide.
2/10/2012 7:00 AM T T M 28.0 M Tmax: 32; Tmin: 17. Still breezy, with spill-over flurries this morning (blue sky overhead). I am a bit surprised at how fast the snowpack is still settling (2.5"/d for the last three days). Expect to see a few little additions in the next week or so.
2/11/2012 7:00 AM 0.11 1.6 M 27.0 M Tmax: 29; Tmin: -2. Arctic air wedged in from the east, with enough overrunning to generate light snow through much of the evening and early AM today, then clear and coldest night morning of the month so far. Based on radar, I would estimate that the heaviest snowbands were to the north and south by about half a county.
2/12/2012 7:00 AM 0.00 0.0 M 26.5 M Tmax: 26 (9th day at or below freezing in a row, longest such string this winter); Tmin: 15 since midnight (about 2F yesterday 7am); we drove to Centennial for the weekend, pretty impressive inversion yesterday: about 24F at noon around our neighborhood, and only 12F on car thermometer in North Boulder, warming up to 21F in Centennial.
2/13/2012 7:00 AM 0.01 0.1 M 26.0 M Tmax: 41 (northern Boulder only got up to the mid20s); Tmin: 20. Apparently one snow(?) shower in early-to-mid afternoon that dropped us back into the low 30s, followed by a few flurries overnight, actually heaviest this morning. All in all a dud, but it looks like the snowpack has FINALLY settled down - only 1" loss in two days.
2/14/2012 7:00 AM 0.01 0.1 M 24.5 M Tmax: 33; Tmin: 17. A few flurries in the air right now, with a full 0.1" on the snowboard from yesterday afternoon. More of the same expected in next 24h.
2/15/2012 7:00 AM T 0.1 M 23.5 M Tmax: 35; Tmin: 8. Evening snow shower produced the whopping 0.1" when a precipitation streak finally came to our neighborhood to 'die'. Changed snowdepth up by 0.5" after measuring again later today.
2/16/2012 7:00 AM T T M 23.0 M Tmax: 24; Tmin: 07. Wintry day yesterday, stayed home to go skiing. Occasional surges with fog from the east that led to riming on trees, and even a few flurries around noon, followed by glistening sunshine. Regarding snowpack conditions, it is interesting that both sunny and windprone spots now have a consolidated snowpack where I can ski without sinking in more than 2", while sheltered spots are still not able to hold my weight and I can still sink in more than knee-deep. Flurries this morning and relatively warm at 14F around 7am.

2/19/2012 7:00 AM 0.00 0.0 M 23.0 M Tmax: 34; Tmin: 17 since midnight/14 yesterday morning. They do a good job grooming at Snowmass.
2/20/2012 7:00 AM T T M 22.0 M Tmax: 37; Tmin: 11. Breezy night after pathetic amount of snow, apparently. A quarter inch or so fell at Carbondale overnight (where we stayed), all in all a dud for us, but quite the doozy at Steamboat where more than two feet fell... Returned this afternoon from our ski trip. Breezy and cold in PM today.
2/21/2012 7:00 AM T T M 21.5 M Tmax: 21; Tmin: 14 since midnight (12 yesterday 7am). Pesky winds! Moderate drifting across roads, some snow in the air last night and this morning. I do hope that we get more spill-over than wind in the next few days, but fear the worst...
2/22/2012 7:00 AM 0.05 0.6 M 21.0 M Tmax: 29 (both yesterday and this morning); Tmin: 24 since midnight/16 since yesterday at 7am. Spill-over snow mainly in evening and early morning (hard to measure), windy throughout. Enough drifting to require snowplow this morning. Snowpack is getting redistributed...
2/23/2012 7:00 AM 0.20 2.7 M 23.0 M Tmax: 39; Tmin: 16. Interesting drive home last night between 7 and 8pm: it was still 50F on the car thermometer at the mouth of the canyon with occasional raindrops hitting the windshield from North Boulder onwards. Halfway up the canyon, there was mixed rain and snow, still in high 40sF. Above Jamestown, the snow started sticking to the road in low 40sF(!), presumably due to lingering frost in the ground. It was snowing lightly at home, with pretty good wind gusts still thrown in after an overall windy day (but it was windier in Boulder with up to 88mph at NCAR and 78mph at Foothills Lab). FroPa in early morning with heaviest snow around 5am (+/-1h). Still overcast with snow falling in vicinity of our house around 7am. Very grateful that plow came thru this morning, the drifts had threatened to take over our neighborhood roads.
2/24/2012 7:00 AM 0.01 0.2 M 22.0 M Tmax: 23 (28 right after midnight yesterday); Tmin: 08 (right around midnight). One decent shower in afternoon yields today's catch, blowing snow and spill-over flurries this morning in hazy sunshine and 10F.

2/26/2012 7:00 AM T T M 21.5 M Tmax: 47 (high for the month); Tmin: 10. Another mostly dry cold front after a spring-like day (a few hours at least) yesterday.
2/27/2012 7:00 AM T T M 21.0 M Tmax: 22; Tmin: 1. Chilly and breezy day, but calm and clear night. Snowpack is mutating into a glacier, very icy and hard except for sheltered north-facing locales. Overall, snowcover is still remarkably complete.
2/28/2012 7:00 AM 0.00 0.0 M 20.0 M Tmax: 37; Tmin: 6 (yesterday 7am)/17 since (and around) midnight. FroPa imminent this morning, with dark clouds to our west. Don't expect much out of this one, hopefully more by Friday.
2/29/2012 7:00 AM 0.04 0.8 M 20.5 M Tmax: 31; Tmin: 13. Another tough measurement - quite windy overnight, classic bora (falling temperature with the wind). Snow fell at least in two batches, one right around 8am when FroPa occurred, a second one around 3pm, and still flurries into the evening. Both snowfall and liquid amounts are low-ball figures, based on change in snowdepth and gage catch (snowboard was scoured out).
3/1/2012 7:00 AM 0.01 0.1 M 20.0 M Tmax: 32; Tmin: 16 (yesterday morning)/17 this morning. Early morning spill-over snow, just enough to make the roads slippery once more. Should be more by tomorrow morning. Wettest and snowiest February on record (2.53/58.4"), snowiest Dec-Feb (123.2"), but only 2nd wettest Dec-Feb (5.77" vs. 7.44" in 06-07), and 2nd snowiest winter season so far (166.9" vs. 174.7" in 06-07), vs. 3rd wettest Sep-Feb period (11.60" this season, 11.91" in 95-96, and 13.54" in 06-07).
3/2/2012 7:00 AM T T M 20.0 M Tmax: 28; Tmin: 1. Wow, another dud - a few flurries last evening was all she wrote. Definitely less than predicted. Am doubtful that today's weather will bring any more snow (despite lots of cold air aloft, it just seems too dry below).
3/3/2012 7:00 AM 0.04 0.6 M 20.5 M Tmax: 24; Tmin: 3 (yesterday morning)/5 (since midnight). Afternoon snow showers, followed by wind and a few flurries overnight.
3/4/2012 7:00 AM T T M 20.0 M Tmax: 24; Tmin: 7 (yesterday morning)/22 since midnight. Chinook blew all night, afternoon flurries ended prior to the most serious wind.
3/5/2012 7:00 AM 0.00 0.0 M 19.0 M Tmax: 39; Tmin: 25 (yesterday morning)/27 since midnight. Peak of early spring 'heat wave' today and tomorrow, starting shot of mud season was yesterday (although much of the day it is actually ice instead of mud (very treacherous to walk on). Might lose 1"/d or more through Wednesday morning. I will comment on the mid-week storm tomorrow.
3/6/2012 7:00 AM 0.00 0.0 M 17.5 M Tmax: 44; Tmin: 31 (both yesterday morning and this morning). Starting to see ground more than one foot away from some trees.
3/7/2012 7:00 AM 0.01 T M 16.5 M Tmax: 50 (1st = 50F since November 24th); Tmin: 18. Freezing drizzle this morning, with some snow pellets mixed in, and enough to coat pavement to make the drive down a bit treacherous. Finally melted the ice in gage, was indeed more than a trace, hence the revised amount (to a whopping 0.01"). Today's daytime high might be 25-30F lower than yesterday up here, possibly even more extreme in the plains where Boulder hit 70F yesterday, vs. 30sF expected today. Am not holding out for much snow with this, too bad, "it coulda been a contender!"
3/8/2012 7:00 AM T T M 16.5 M Tmax: 31 (warmer than expected); Tmin: 11. Nice calm full moon(?) night, alternating with some clouds to give us a few flurries overnight. Riming for last 24h+, beautiful sunrise!
3/9/2012 7:00 AM 0.00 0.0 M 16.5 M Tmax: 34; Tmin: 16 since midnight/11 yesterday morning. Nice lack of wind for a change! Snowpack is getting nibbled at from the edges, but core glacier is still in place. 3/14/2012 7:00 AM 0.00 0.0 M 13.0 M Tmax: 52; Tmin: 31 yesterday morning after 7am MDT/32 since midnight. Snowpack is getting uglier every day - all the wind strewn debris is collecting at the surface.. Roads are either icy or dry in the morning, depending on exposure to sun/melting snowpiles on the roadside, and mostly muddy in evening.
3/15/2012 7:00 AM 0.00 0.0 M 11.0 M Tmax: 53; Tmin: 35 (1st time ABOVE freezing in a long time). Speaking of long stretches: this morning's snow depth average of 11" is the lowest since December 21st, a long but not unprecedented run above a foot. In 2006-07, a similar run lasted from December 21st to March 20th, six days longer, but with more moisture content in those late December storms. Very similar lack of snow and warm temperatures from early-to-mid March that year. I am hopeful that we will get some snow early next week, but it does not look like a 'dump' anymore.

3/17/2012 7:00 AM 0.00 0.0 M 8.0 M Tmax: 54; Tmin: 31. One of my three snowdepth measuring points has now traced out, coverage down to about 70% or so. Total precip for month so far (0.06") is the lowest on record by far (previous record 1/4") through mid-March.
3/18/2012 7:00 AM 0.00 0.0 M 7.0 M Tmax: 55 (high for the month - so far); Tmin: 29. Clock is ticking on snowpack - down to 65% coverage - will probably trace out before week's end, despite a couple of chilly days coming up. Fifth day in a row with a high of 50F or higher - this has happened only twice before since 1991.
3/19/2012 7:00 AM T T M 6.0 M Tmax: 52; Tmin: 16. A few stray snow showers after 5pm, briefly accumulating to a trace, not much after midnight. Another big low got away from us, keeping this month on track for record-low moisture. Yesterday's high in the 50s was the 6th in a row, tieing a record for March. Snowpack is down to about 60%, expecting it to become a trace later this week, once we warm up again.
3/20/2012 7:00 AM 0.00 0.0 M 6.0 M Tmax: 32; Tmin: 14. There may have been a flurry or two in the evening, but nothing in gage. One day of arrested snowmelt, back to the dismantling of the remaining snowpack by tomorrow.

Some freezing drizzle/rain mixed in around midnight, coating everything with about 0.1" of ice (and making the commute 'interesting' this morning exactly where the roads were plowed). Fairly heavy graupel shower this morning - 1-2"/h estimated rate, with more to come. The last 24h gave me more than eight times the liquid total/almost four times the snow total of March (0.06/0.7).
4/4/2012 7:00 AM 0.49 4.1 M 5.0 M Tmax: 31; Tmin: 19. Not a typo, the same almost 0.5" in last 24h, mostly falling in morning hours, so the snowfall total on snowboard in evening may be an underestimate. Snow stopped around 6pm MDT, followed by brief clearing, then fog, and sunny again this morning. Storm totals: 0.98/6.6", not too shabby for a glancing blow, and more than 16 (9) times what was measured in all of March 2012...
4/5/2012 7:00 AM 0.00 0.0 M 2.0 M Tmax: 49; Tmin: 28. Snow coverage down to 75% (that was fast). Expect to trace out by this evening. Sunny and almost calm this morning.

4/12/2012 7:00 AM 0.12 0.0 M T M Tmax: 57; Tmin: 33 (1st above freezing since April 1st). Showers over mountains drop 0.04" around 5pm MDT, but the real story is the line of thundershowers that moved off the mountains eastward around 10-11pm MDT, with almost 1h of thunder and lightning, but only a modest further 0.08". Lowest temperature during this event was about 38F, explaining the lack of frozen hydrometeors. I believe this was the first pure rain event of 2012. Leftover snow near our house is down to one lonely patch that is fairly protected from the elements. Might disappear over next day or two, in time for the next real storm this weekend.

After 'great expectations' earlier this week, incoming storm looks more like a dud now, but it being mid-April, should be good for at least some moisture... One old snow drift clinging to a couple of square feet of real estate still (not man-made), hence the trace on the ground.

Another 3.6" by 9pm, with much lower snowfall (and a little freezing drizzle) overnight (1.0/0.13"). Snowing again at a pretty good clip this morning. Saw snow by the roadside all the way down to almost Jamestown (~7K). Roads were mostly just slushy or wet above 8K.

Snowfall estimated, had partially melted by the time I got back in evening; there was a little freezing drizzle in evening before finally clearing up. Overnight FroPa brought clouds and a few drops starting around midnight, with a steady freezing drizzle this morning, but not much to show for it. Precipitation stopped right below 8K on the way down this morning, so this is not widespread. Next 60h could bring 1" or more, or just a trace, take your pick/favorite model... It will be chilly, that is guaranteed. If we get snow, it will be slushy and hard to measure (mainly tonight?). Old snow has completely disappeared.

5/24/2012 7:00 AM 0.63 0.9 M 0.5 M Tmax: 51; Tmin: 29. Rain in PM amounted to 0.55", with peak rates just before 3pm, and from 6-9pm MDT (was home for the latter that came with thunder), then a break until past 2:45am MDT, followed by an early morning snowfall (0.08/0.9") that gives us 11.7" of snow for the month, or 0.1" more than in March and April combined - unprecedented in 22 years of record-keeping. In Enos Mill's Longs Peak record, this only happened twice, last in 1910! Still flurries this morning, and the Divide is definitely still getting snow. Snow depth is average of trace amounts on bare ground and 1" on grassy tufts.

7/23/2012 7:00 AM 0.09 0.0 M 0.0 M Tmax: 75; Tmin: 52 (repeating highs and lows for two days). Thunder already by 11am MDT, off and on threat of showers all day, including some drizzle around 7-8pm, but the "real" storm did not get to us until after 10pm, with lightning to the south and gentle rains for more than one hour.
7/24/2012 7:00 AM 0.28 T M 0.0 M Tmax: 75; Tmin: 54 (cools off in PM). Three separate storms, first one right after 1pm, heaviest one around 4pm, last one around 8pm MDT. Looking at radar, we missed out on the heaviest stuff just to our west and south. According to my 13 year old son, the 2nd storm came with a little hail that had melted by the time I got home.
7/25/2012 6:30 AM 0.20 0.0 M 0.0 M Tmax: 74; Tmin: 50. Threatening all day, but no rain until 10pm when a couple of thunderstorms converged on us for about 2h of mostly gentle rain. Breezy and cloudy overnight, with occasional spill-over drizzle that does not amount to more than a trace.

7/30/2012 7:00 AM 0.23 0.0 M 0.0 M Tmax: 73; Tmin: 50. Considering that this fell in five separate installments between noon and midnight, this is actually a small total, but it gets me over 5" for the month...
7/31/2012 7:00 AM 0.79 0.0 M 0.0 M Tmax: 69 (1st below 70F since July 10th!); Tmin: 49. Main storm around 3pm MDT when about 3/4" fell in about 50' or so (based on neighbor's underground site). Trying to play catch-up with NED, I guess..
8/1/2012 7:00 AM 0.00 0.0 M 0.0 M Winding up the month at 5.89" (CoCoRAHS total includes 0.01" on the 31st that was counted on the 1st). 3rd highest ever summer month total (July 1998 and 1999 were around 6.5"), in fact only March through May have seen higher totals for any month.
8/2/2012 7:00 AM 0.38 0.0 M 0.0 M Nice start to the month - one storm just before 5pm dropped 0.16", and a 2nd one hit just before 9pm, lingering a bit but dropping 0.1" in under 5 minutes, and 0.22" within an hour. Clearing and cool after that, followed by a breezy night to warm us up again.

8/31/2012 7:00 AM 0.00 0.0 M 0.0 M Lots of rain nearby, but nothing in the gage for us. Month appears to end with a whimper (and increased fire danger/fire ban around here).
9/1/2012 7:00 AM 0.00 0.0 M 0.0 M Very smoky sky yesterday morning (Larimer County and Wyoming fire smoke snuck in), at least in lower elevations. Month ends with a whimper, hot and dry just like June.
9/2/2012 7:00 AM 0.00 0.0 M 0.0 M Tmax: 75; Tmin: 53, still warmer than average. Another dry one, last month ended up with 1.04", my 4th lowest August total on record in 23 years.

9/4/2012 7:00 AM T 0.0 M 0.0 M Tmax: 72; Tmin: 48; lots of wind from an eastward passing disturbance to the north (dropping rain in Allenspark, for instance), on this anniversary (Labor Day) of the 4mile fire - squeezed out a trace from all this in late afternoon.
9/5/2012 7:00 AM 0.00 0.0 M 0.0 M Tmax: 74; Tmin: 39; another dry day, and a big temperature drop this morning. First freeze towards the end of the week?
9/6/2012 7:00 AM 0.00 0.0 M 0.0 M Tmax: 73; Tmin: 46; wide temperature swing yesterday (39 - 73), here is hoping for not just cooler weather, but also some moisture in next 48h...
9/7/2012 7:00 AM 0.23 0.0 M 0.0 M Tmax: 76; Tmin: 42. Whoa, a nocturnal storm, woke up around 3am to pretty good rain falling at that time, did not hear any thunder, but then again, that might have been what woke me up. This is the most rain since August 2nd (reported on the 3rd)! Here is hoping for a little more today. Almost forgot to mention that I saw a dusting of snow on the divide this morning (north side of Audobon), probably down to about 12K (clearly above treeline).
9/8/2012 7:00 AM 0.11 0.0 M 0.0 M Tmax: 55; Tmin: 35 (lowest so far this season) - some bonus rain showers in early afternoon, and a real fall-day never getting much above 50F, followed by a chilly low. Sunny and calm this morning.

9/10/2012 7:00 AM 0.00 0.0 M 0.0 M Tmax: 72; Tmin: 50. Warm during day/breezy at night, keeping us at or above 50F all night. Looking forward to mid-week storm that could bring first rain/snow mix of season!
9/11/2012 7:00 AM 0.00 0.0 M 0.0 M Tmax: 75; Tmin: 54 (even warmer than previous night) - One more day of warm/dry conditions, ahead of what promises to be a good dousing over next three days, hopefully more than half an inch. I do not think that this one will get cold enough for snow at this place, but the Divide should get more than last week.
9/12/2012 7:00 AM 0.40 0.0 M 0.0 M Tmax: 70; Tmin: 44 (=right now). Rain showers began in PM, becoming moderate for a short period around 8pm MDT when we received 0.10" in 1h, then light rain or drizzle through the night, still raining this morning. Here is hoping for more all day!
9/13/2012 7:00 AM 0.11 0.0 M 0.0 M Tmax: 46 (calendar high yesterday: 47 in early AM); Tmin: 32 (first light freeze of season) - frost on the roof this morning, and lots of dew. Foggy all day yesterday, with off and on drizzle, and one decent shower in late evening, followed by clearing around midnight.
9/14/2012 7:00 AM T 0.0 M 0.0 M Tmax: 56; Tmin: 35. Not sure whether this was residual moisture left in gage, or dew, but the gage did record a solid trace. Nice fall weather.
9/15/2012 7:00 AM 0.00 0.0 M 0.0 M Tmax: 62; Tmin: 40. A warm weekend on its way, and I am not optimistic about the chances for moisture with the cold front Sunday night.

9/18/2012 7:00 AM 0.02 0.0 M 0.0 M Tmax: 53; Tmin: 36. Whopping rain showers yesterday, and a cool day in the 50s. Fall colors strangely arrested with a lot of mottled yellow-green aspen for the last 1-2 weeks. Low in mid-30s right around midnight.
9/19/2012 7:00 AM 0.00 0.0 M 0.0 M Tmax: 66; Tmin: 49 - mild weather is back...

9/23/2012 7:00 AM 0.00 0.0 M 0.0 M Tmax: 66; Tmin: 42. Breezy night to keep up the nighttime temperatures, still hazy sky, however. Here is hoping for some decent rain showers during the upcoming week (still too warm for snow).
9/24/2012 7:00 AM 0.00 0.0 M 0.0 M Tmax: 72; Tmin: 49. Breezy day yesterday, still quite warm, followed by a very mild night. Should be cooler and cloudy today, have some hope for liquid hydrometeors this week...
9/25/2012 7:00 AM 0.00 0.0 M 0.0 M Tmax: 64; Tmin: 39. Rain got hung up on divide/elsewhere - no rain in gage, even though it might have rained a trace. Next 24h have best chance of rain, let's hope this storm delivers, even if it's only rain (too warm).
9/26/2012 7:00 AM 0.81 0.0 M 0.0 M Tmax: 57; Tmin: 40. Nice one! Had almost given up on this one, but received 0.61" between about 7pm and 1am MDT, and another 0.20" this morning before 7am (still raining steadily at 7am). Temperature down to about 40F this morning, so too warm for snow.
9/27/2012 6:45 AM 0.32 0.0 M 0.0 M Tmax: 47 (coldest for the season so far); Tmin: 33. Not bad - two-day total now 1.13"... Near-freezing this morning, but still no snow.
