Two separated thunderstorm accumulated the 0.52 inches found in the gauge. The first storm came around 12:50 p.m. CDT and last about 15 minutes which was gusty winds and rain (0.05 inches). The main thunderstorm was more severe and started somewhere around 1:00 a.m. this morning with an abundance of lightening - some very close causing power to fail for a short period of time, winds and steady rain (0.47 inches). The lightening seem to last for a couple hours. Even after the storm had passed we could see more lightening off to the SW. This morning we have sunny skies; humid; SW breeze and 71 deg F at 8:00 a.m. CDT. More 90 deg temps in store for us today. |

Just came in from watering the garden and flowers; the heat and humidity are building. Looking at field crops the past couple of days corn is getting very stressed; leaves are curling and pulling straight up; firing on the bottom on the lighter soils. We were one of the fortunate ones yesterday to be in the path of line of thundershowers that dropped a glorious 0.62 inches of rain on much needed crops. Even though some of our corn is way past saving on the lighter soils we are VERY THANKFUL for whatever we can get. Oh' last night was definitely refreshing with a northerly breeze and temps dropping into the high 60's - it was time to throw open the windows and give the air conditioner a rest. Hallelujah! Oh what a beautiful site to see ONE INCH of rain in our gauge. My ISP went down yesterday afternoon and just came up at 10:30 a.m. this morning. Then we got side swiped by a strong line of thunderstorms starting at 7:30 a.m. CDT with us only getting the strong winds and not much rain (0.04 inches). The strong winds did knock out power for about 40 minutes and we do have many sticks and a very large burr oak limb that came down thankfully missing any buildings. Was awaken by lightening and thunder at 1:15 a.m. this morning which ended up being a fast moving thunderstorm. As I checked the gauge at 7:30 a.m. (0.11 inches) the skies are dark with another impending thunderstorm coming from the NW. |

Thunderstorms were it for yesterday with the morning storm leaving behind 0.52 inches and the latter storm around 5:15 p.m. giving us 0.51 inches in about 18 minutes (pounding white rain). A couple of other light showers (0.05) made up the remaining total reported. This morning we have clear, sunny skies with a brisk NNW breeze; 54 deg F at 7:45 a.m. CDT. |
