Total for yesterday's rain event was 1.04". Winds howled throughout the night, but at obs. they were beginning to abate. Skies are PC. Yesterday, I stopped for gas in Hickory (on my way home from Raleigh) about 5:00pm and saw the most beautiful rainbow against a partially darkened sky. The rainbow had such vivid, distinct colors; the yellow band was especially clear. The entire rainbow lasted for about five minutes. Pumping gas has never been more enjoyable! |

One of the large T-storms was born just to our west near/over Lake James. We received some needed rain, but none of the straight-line winds. We could follow its path via NWS watches/warnings. This morning we've turned decidedly fallish at 59.7F. |

Autumn has certainly made her grand entrance. Here in the foothills, the leaves began turning weeks earlier than usual. The cold front has arrived (48F!) and should move the full coloring on a bit faster. |

It was interesting to look to the horizon yesterday and see convective clouds doing their thing. Lots of thunder, of course, meant one terrified old, small dog. We have three frogs in the pond; when the sun is out they sit on the flat rocks on the edge of the water. When a person or neighborhood dog passes by, we can hear their little splash into the water leaving small wet places where they had been sitting. Cool. |
