Was in Bethesda, MD all day yesterday; rain was tapering off when we arrived home. Gauge measured
1.1 inches. Skies cleared to a lovely cool spring blue, then thunder began rumbling in west and around 7:00 PM we had a hard, pounding spring shower that lasted 15 minutes approx. Cleared again, and about 10:00 PM another rain storm. Added an additional .3" to gauge. |

"...full of sound and fury, signifying..." signifying not much rain. Some blustery winds last evening. The sky darkened overhead, but with bright edges, so I knew we weren't going to get deluged. Was hoping for more than .18" of water. Lots of noise; one thunderclap that seemed to have rudely slammed into the front door brought me straight up out of my chair and the dogs running to huddle under my feet. But mostly loud, rapid fireworks with, thankfully, no damage. |

HORRIBLE storm Fri nite about 7:00. WInd like I've never experienced before. Considerable damage in Charles Town. Lost power Friday evening; finally returned on Sunday late morning. HOTHOTHOT! Miserable. Continual lightning flashes in storm but little thunder--never have seen so much steady lightning. But only saw two bolts; most of it was just flashing in sky. All this sound and fury gave us only 1/3" of rain. Ground parched with heat. |

Was 90 degrees in bedroom last night (2nd floor) at 10:30 PM, making it hard to sleep. NO breeze thru windows at all. Power came back on about 10 AM on Sunday--so relieved. No moisture in gauge. Hot again today; sky clear but lots of humidity in air making it look very Washington, DC July. |

a perfect thunderstorm on Tuesday evening--just the right amt of satisfyingly-loud and basso-profundo thunder and lots of far-away lightning flashes. I sat on the covered porch and enjoyed it; first wind and rain blowing in from north, then swinging around to come from south-west, watering the lawn and my vegetable garden. Was hoping for more... On the 4th of July went to Berryville, VA (about 20 mil south)for fireworks. Just as they were beginning a terrific windstorm came whooshing in with lots of lightning, but no rain. The firework show went on, accompanied by quite a weather-shwo. |

(Some REALLY fun) Grandma duties kept me from completing reports since last Thursday. COOLER this morning; at 7 AM air temp was 60 degrees and so was the humidity. But sooo much more pleasant than the last few days. Had a wonderful rain beginning Sunday evening and lasting into Monday morning. All my vegetables and flowers seemed to have grown several inches in the past day! We are grateful for the moisture. |

No rain yesterday, altho it sounded and looked like areas all around us were getting wet. Parched! This morning was quite clear and bright; some high clouds rolling in now. (8:45 AM) Humidity 50%, but pleasant so far. With 3 grandsons visiting for four days, playing in the sprinkler with friends (the boys NOT me!), extra laundry, showers, and dishes--AND watering the gardens daily--the roof will raise several inches from the house when my husband sees our water bill!!! |

NOTE: written in evening. We had a wonderful thunder storm last nite. Had appt this morning necessitating departure from house at 5 AM. There was .95" of rain in the gauge. So happy as the heat and drought has been bad for the past week or so. When I returned home about 2 PM it had rained an additional .15". Has been cloudy and quite cool since then--and SO humid. Nice breeze. Air has warm embracing, wet silky feel, just like at the beach. |

at 7 AM it was 70 degrees and 56% humidity--not too unpleasant, if a little sticky. On the way home from Flag Ponds yesterday (where we looked for fossil sharks' teeth and found maybe a dozen or so) Leesburg & Purcellville, VA seemed to have gotten a good shower as the streets were wet. thunder in the distant hills about dusk last nite; some breezy blowin', but no rain. Then at 9:30 more lightning and thunder (just enough to announce the rain's presence), and a pleasant slow shower. Not much moisture, but we'll take what we can get. At about 7:30 AM this morning a brief sprinkle that lasted only a few minutes. My lovely phlox, perfuming the air with their heavy, unusual scent, were quite grateful, as their leaves were just beginning to wither ever so slightly. (Their Gardner was trying to practice conservation & save a few sheckles by watering the squash, tomatoes, herbs, and cucumbers and leaving the tougher--non edible--perennials to fend for themselves! |

a rainy day! We really need this. Temp 66; humidity 62%. First storm to the north of Charles Town just about dusk, but once again snaked down the river and, other than a few rumbly-noises, produced no rain. About 10:30 it began with some light spinkles and continued (I assume, as I was in dreamland...) thru the night. Waking this morning at 6:30, there was a steady, but light drizzle. A rainy day! We haven't had one of those for a long time. I'm sure the zucchini and cucumbers will each grow inches today! Rain good for my garden; plump tomatoes good for my tummy; traffic havoc this little sprizzle will cause is good for nothing! |

That ride is nearly as much fun as the Fair will be. Montgomery Co. Fair is HUGE--the very best one I've ever been to--one of the highlights of my summers.
