7/12/2013 6:00 AM 1.17 M M M M So here is the blow by blow (filed two severe weather reports) 8:00 light summery shower..sort of the kind where you are sitting at a California restaurant getting misted (only a little colder breezes) 8:05 cold gusts but still no inkling that that this is the BIG STORM of the week? month? summer? 8:10 "regular" rain, you know, the kind that saves us up in Evergreen from a type of Black Forest fire we are all dreading 8:20 Biblical opening up of the heavens. I scamper down stairs to record my severe weather report before the power goes out...since that is almost ALWAYS what happens. I know Cocorahs wants me to give a rain gauge reading but i ain't going out in THAT..so I guesstimate about 0.35". I'm an expert (don't try this until you've been an observer for years...well maybe at least a season) so not too far off. 8:40 deluge lessens? I run out to get a reading but a gust from the wind sends icy rivers of water down my back so I run back in to see the cat is looking at me disgustedly and twitching his tail as if to say "ain't nobody got time for that (teenage humor from famous You-tube vidoe)". 8:50 rain lessens enough for me to see my car now..with one window half way down. Crap! But my rain gauge says an unbelievable 0.95" 9:00 in bed (freezing) listening to the pitter-patter of more rain...but its on and off Oh yeah, did I mention a lightening strike that resembled a Tesla Coil show and thunder that deafened me? Well, I guess I'm ok this morning since I can hear Upper Bear Creek roaring downvalley..... Total precip 0.35 + 0.60 + 0.22 (after 9:00 pm) = 1.17" of rain...in less than 1.5 hours total Shannon Mahan, Dedicated COCOrahs observer..but only when its comfortable as well as exciting...

While driving up I-70 from Lakewood to Evergreen around 2:45 pm I was caught in a furious hailstorm (Stalled traffic right at C-470 and I-70), saw what looked like drifts of snow at Genesee and drifts of snow (but was hail!) at Elk Meadow Park. the first storm gave us 0.26" of rain and 0.48" fell between 5:30 pm and 6:30 am. Intense lightening with first storm. This am is partly overcast but calm with no rain.

I registered a truly impressive 0.66" between 7 am and 7 pm and then an additional 0.53" overnight. the soil is so saturated in one low spot by Bear Creek I actually witnessed over land flow by the bus stop this morning. Even the kids were impressed. This am is Overcast, calm, low tendrils of fog, no rain though!

There was little to no rain yesterday until about 4 pm. It started lightly but was pouring down by 6 pm and it continued to pour until 8 pm when it tapered off to a steady rain. This am is foggy, cool, and drizzling. I type this to the smell of wet carpet and drywall (wetwall?).
