When the rain shower came through yesterday afternoon, the radar showed the color yellow as to the cell's intensity. It appeared to be a confused cell in that the radar showed moderate intensity, the amount of lightening, thunder and wind were minimal, and rainfall was small. However, the sky darkened so much that 4 p.m. on an early May day in Florida which had been totally sunny up till the last 30 minutes, was so absolutely dark it appeared to be about 10 p.m. Lights were being turned on to be able to see inside homes. I have only seen that amount of sky darkening happen in the really intense storms. |

Very bad storm yesterday late afternoon. Rain falling so fast you could barely see, small hail. Constant lightening and almost constant thunder. High winds. The sky turned the color of green just before storm broke, but did not meet severe criteria. Heard a snapping noise and felt the kitchen walls and floor shake. About 3 minutes later found the top 2 HUGE limbs from our live oak tree had come crashing down, bring other trees with it. Straight line winds are probably the cause but there are signs in/on the debris of rotation. Our way in and out of the house are blocked and we are physically disabled. Last Wednesday we had an almost severe storm with the sky turning green just before the storm hit. We had a huge tree limb come down from the top of the live oak near the kitchen that came down, burying the patio, truck, and other things. We are still working on removing it. Yesterday (Wednesday) we had a just-a-bit lesser storm than last week, still with thunder and lightening for hours with intense bursts of rain. Another tree limb from the live oak came down in the same area. I do not think I will be here NEXT Wednesday! Tree limbs of various sizes down all over our 1/3 acre city lot. We had a trace as verified by observation of it falling on this observer, the drops seen falling on things in the yard, the sound and aroma of it. Also had a short intense shower but the rain gauge only collected enough for maybe 0.005 inches. Caterpillars seen during the autumn have already been seen, and sycamore tree leaves are falling as they would a couple of months from now in a 'normal' year. There are signs that fall MAY be coming early. |

The FAWN Station a couple of miles East of this location had 1.25 inches of rain. The thunder started to be heard at 6:30 p.m. and the lightening and thunder continued until about 11 p.m. The rainfall lasted one hour. The storm could have been much worse, but turned into an electrical storm after it went South of Live Oak, FL. Thunder report completed. Lightening feeders were seen during the storm.
