Saturday's light, indecisive rain continued through obs time yesterday morning & on until 1:06pm, when it finally developed into the most satisfying, hard-driving thunderstorm we've seen in a long time, leaving water standing in the streets. Pea-sized hail at 1:16pm lasted less than a minute & melted almost immediately in 63-degree temperatures. Rain slowed by 1:50pm and went back to a dithering, on-and-off drip that stopped sometime short of 5pm. At obs time today, clear sky if you can overlook a dirty smog. Moderate dew. |

On & off rain started sometime before 11:15am, which was when I first noticed it. Saw first snowflake of the season mixed with rain at 2:45pm in north Peru. First -- I had 0.2" new snow but cannot record it below under new snow because I'm getting a message that says I can't have the same number for moisture in the gauge and snow on the ground. Nonetheless, like it or not, the fact is that the combination of rain & melted snow in my gauge is 0.2", and the depth of snow on the ground is 0.2". Light rain falling during & after yesterday's obs time. Increased sometime before 8am. Snow mixed with rain started at 2:44pm. Turned to all snow at 2:58pm. Snow continued in stops & starts into the evening. This was the wettest January since the first one I measured in 2010. January totals: 2010 -- 1.39"; 2011 -- 1.32"; 2012 -- 1.08"; 2013 -- 4.09". Brief, light shower in N. Peru started at 5:28pm. Back at my station, a minuscule teaser shower starting at 5:35pm lasted less than 2 minutes & gave us a trace. The main rain event started sometime around 8:30pm and continued on into the night. Light-to-moderate fog at obs time partially obscured what looked like an otherwise clear sky. |
