The ground was clear before this last snowfall. The snow is barely covering the ground but, there is some ice under it from the melting. There wasn't much outside this time frame, just and dusting of snow. There is no moisture accumulations again last night in my collection tube. The snow cover in open areas is gone. The only snow left is from the piles formed from snow removal on the roads and walk ways and those in the shadows. The snow on the North side of the houses is about 3/4 the height of houses in the cast shadows. Trees also affect the still standing snow. The neighbors have a split rail fence. It's shadow has left a snow pattern of fence on the lawn.
I have a problem with my snow board. It is standing in the middle of the lawn. The snow has melted from the lawn. The white painted composite board still has .2" of hard crust snow mixture on it. Like yesterday, the rain and snow was intermixed as the temperature remained just at or barely above freezing most of the time. There is a slushy mixture over everything. The temperature has edged just above freezing for the past couple of days and has melted most of the snow from the roofs of both heated and unheated buildings. The snow cover is still about 75+% on the lawns. There was just a tiny bit of snow in one side of the collection tube. I doubt it was 1/4 tsp maximum.
The maple sap is flowing. The overnight temperatures are in the low 20's and the daytime temps are above freezing. The sun side of the trees with the solar heat is climbing to near 45F. Perfect for the maple sap run. We may not be Vermont, but we do make maple syrup in Indiana. The Shellberg Farm in Porter county and the Deep River Mill in Lake Col are both in full swing with Native American, Pioneer and modern methods of production shown in free tours for the rest of the season. |

A nice soft rain fell last night. No standing puddles anywhere. The garden is mostly in and can use the help of nature. Some of the baby robins have left their nests. There are eggs in others waiting to hatch. Yet other robins have just begun their mating rituals. Spring is in full bloom. |

We had a lot of lightening and thunder with high winds.
There were local Tornado sirens. A house in the area had its roof blown off. In the 50 years plus that I've lived in this area I don't remember that happening before without a tornado. |

No rain fall. This week is expected to be more summer like, with the temps in the upper 80's and lower 90's.
Some of the recently planted shrubs and flowers needed extra watering. We've had lots of rain earlier. We should be clear of last years drought but some hold over is noted in several types of trees and yard plants. |

The rain stopped about 8:30 PM last night. My sump kicked out about 3 gallons at about 2PM this afternoon.
We may be drying up just a little for such a nice delay in fall and emptying. Some plants are showing a little lack of moisture now. |

The temperature soared to near 90 and was extremely overcast and muggy. The dew point was over 70 according to the weather forecasters. However, we experienced no rain fall, luckily for us. |

Exciting night. Electricity just got turned back on in our area. It seems that a line of high winds blew down some limbs and rotted trees in a line at least a mile and a half long. The corridor was relatively narrow , perhaps only 100 feet or so wide. Most trees were unaffected It wasn't a heavy damage situation. The area affected was about 7and 3/4 miles North by about 450 to 350 W or Valparaiso. The electricity was out about 8 or so hours. The winds were reported to be in the 76MPH range. Before the wind hit we had a rain with hail. The hail was melting quite quickly as the temperature was near 80. The hail I measured was between .320 and .356 in diameter. I used a micrometer to measure. Electric is back on. |

Most of the rain and winds hit Lake county ,the first county west of us. We did get to see some of the lightening and hear the thunder and wind. Over 30,000 more people lost their electricity. |

The rains have been skirt-ting my station as of late. A friend said he ran through a brief burst the other day.
I've had to delay finishing my drive repair for over a week because of threats of rain that didn't materialize. For the next several days more rain is predicted. I'm considering replacing a window in the interim.

The temperature has dropped because of a cold air mass from the North. It brought a few scattered showers that amounted to .o2".
One of the over riding questions at the county fair, "Ask a Master Gardener Booth, was about the effect of moisture because of the recent hot, dry spell. Even a lot of drought resistant plants (local Native plants like Black eyed Susans )are showing drying and wilting. |

Just a little spritz. However, it is very overcast and appears more down pour is eminent. Our soil is very dry. Leaves on many small plant are turning brown. I've had to water several times to keep mine from
turning to badly. the edges of many lawns next to drives and streets is especially hard hit. There is more rain forecast for today.

Even the black eyed Susans are needing watering. there
are some signs of the drought again. The tomato plants and even the dog woods that are several years old were drooping before I go the sprinkler going. Most plants are doing OK. However, there are some that have been having to be given addidtional moisture to survive. |

What a string of rains. The first big one ended by 10:30 PM. it dropped 2.66". about 11:PM and until dawn an additional .20" fell for a total of 2.95 for the 35 hour period. Although it was an extreme amount for normal times, most was quickly either absorbed or ran off. In our immediate are there is no sever flooding, Now that the ground ,at least near the surface is pretty well saturated, we will see what the rains already forecast for later today will do. |
