Entered Significant Report yesterday and I received a phone call from the National Weather Service! She thanked me for the report and questioned the flooding, asked about road conditions. I entered "more than typical" flooding. She said they would take a look back at the radar to see if they could detect the storm. I estimate that we received about an inch of rain between 4:05 and 4:18 pm, but I did not check the gauge until about 6 pm.
It is calm now, and I hope the rain is past us. The corn is tossed around, winds from south to north. |

The sky is clear this morning. We picked broccoli & cabbage and dug the first potatoes yesterday. Picked a Big Beef tomato. Orange Slice, Heatwave, Pozzano are starting to ripen. Gave away several Mountain Fresh, which we don't really care for since they tend to be pulpy. Greenhouse cucumbers are coming on strong. The cukes I planted outside look very poor. |

We got most of the grass cut yesterday and will hopefully finish it today. I picked blueberries again - the birds seem to be leaving them alone. I've seen a few cantaloupes in the greenhouse, also some bees, which do a better job pollinating than I do. |

A few drops in the gauge. Sprinkled yesterday afternoon about 4:30. Big surprise on the zucchini. A few small fruit on Monday, logs on Wednesday. We gave a bunch to Grant & Lisa. Another surprise in the orchard - lots of plums on the ground. Looks like the racoons were active overnight. I picked up all the fallen fruit and put it outside the fence. I hope they are content with that and leave the trees alone. |

I had a nice visit with Dad, Ed & Kathy, and Allan. They have had a lot of rain this year, probably more than we did. Corn looks good, soybeans not so good. Allan harvested wheat in his hot combine, said he had to just endure until the job was done. Bob was watering flowers when I returned home. Still hot and dry here. |

No rain here - we could use some. We picked the first sweet corn yesterday - delicious! I'm taking 2 quilts, corn and tomatoes to the fair this morning. The tomatoes look perfect, but tend to have green shoulder and don't actually taste very good at this point. I hope the flavor improves as the Big Beef, Orange Slice and Super Tasty ripen. Garden tomatoes are starting to ripen. There won't be very many since early blight is taking the leaves early this year. |

Over 90 again yesterday - I thought it was supposed to be cooling. I tended the greenhouse tomatoes. A lot of flowers shed last week in the heat. We still have plenty. Many tomatoes look ripe, but are green inside. I need to leave them until they are really ripe. We had some peaches from the tree in the orchard - very good. Blueberries are just about gone. |

Short, heavy shower yesterday afternoon. Clear, cool 55 degrees this morning. Good - maybe the tomatoes will ripen better with cooler temperatures. Yesterday morning we saw a bald eagle on SR 350 near Laughery Creek on our way to Madison. We saw them blow up a portion of the bridge. It was a big boom and concussion afterwards! |

I love sunrise. This morning the sky had a shelf of dark clouds that looked mauve, outlined with peach. The rosy glow in the east was a lovely shade of deep coral. Made a batch of pickles, got the grass trimmed and mown yesterday. Gave cantaloupe and zucchini to Gregg & Heidi, so veggies are up to date. Tomatoes are ripening well, should have enough to make juice by the end of the week. I tossed all the tomatoes with yellow shoulder. |
