I found the gauge tipped over sideways and tilted slightly top down, so collected rain drained out. Animal activity must have done this. Based on surrounding stations, the amount lost must have been between 0.05" and 0.20". There were late evening and overnight showers, followed by long periods of very fine misty light drizzle through the day. |

6pm snow was flying in Gaithersburg, later got home to all rain. 9pm snow was mixed with rain at my site but nothing stuck - no snow on cars, grass, or anything. Ground is bare. Car windows are glazed and body has ice crystallized into elaborate patterns. Inner cylinder of gauge contained only liquid, no ice, but outside of funnel was glazed and adhered to outer cylinder, difficult to pull apart. Snow on ground this morning on the way to work, began a bit north/west of Beltsville and continued all the way to Gaithersburg. |

New snow may be underestimate due to likelihood of early melting and even later melting too as temps were just above freezing and ground was not frozen. A line of updraft bases sat over the gust front well ahead of those thundershowers, gust front was pushed by previous storms which passed well to the west. At home, had a few rumbles of thunder after midnight from a storm to the south too far to see through all the trees in the yards. |

3 episodes here: Morning rain began just after 9am but was between storms as those from west were dissipating and gust front ahead of them had new storms which matured just to my east. One flash of lightning and peel of thunder. Afternoon storms zipped through while I was at work, but looks like my CoCoRaHS site missed the strong winds as there were no leaves and branches down in the yard. Those combined for .54" and an additional light shower came through around 8pm, had .02 more in gauge in the morning for .56" total. From my office, I had a terrific view of the apex of the bow echo which passed just to my south through Rockville, where there was extensive tree damage. Winds at my location were from between SW and W, outflow, there was no inflow to it. Rain sheets whipping in the wind were all from the SW and W. The NWS issued tornado warnings based on rotation in the storm-relative winds, but that appeared actually to be the result of the sharp nose-shaped profile of the surge and I don't think there were any spin-ups in the vicinity of I-270, at least none on the north side of the apex which is the usual location for bookend vorticies. |

Beautiful tall towers with very short-lived thundershowers were in the area. One with a rain shaft to the north dissipated with a few large drops and few rumbles of thunder as it passed through here 7-8pm along with a weak gust front that hardly provided any relief from the heat, and a new small cell complex rose just to the south and was briefly looking impressively bubbly and robust, producing a heavy shaft and a few impressive lightning bolts with booming thunder around 5 miles to the south. |
