We are still getting rain as I report, and dark graying skies are ever present. One and a quarter inches of rain the past 24 hours is a good soaking for us, not good for those who still have hay or corn in the fields. Total rain over the weekend came to 2.35 inches, some areas around us received more, and some less, we had a real hard and wind driven shower on Sunday around three pm, that lasted no more than 20 minutes. We are under a wind advisory, there are random power outages in the area, but as yet the temps are unseasonably high, and skies are clear. We are getting rain and snow mix, a first for the season, but after 70 degree temps yesterday, the ground is melting any and all of the white stuff. We had high winds over night and still are getting gusts in the high twenties, steady winds at 17 mph. Overcast skies are the expectation for the day, alonf with falling temps. Temps at 15:00 hours were in the low 30's, and a tenth of an inch of moisture had gathered on our deck and in the rain gauge. I drove to Windsor, ON CA, in the early morning and had a great sunrise to watch, but when I returned I drove into sleet, blowing snow and rain around Jackson,MI. Not fun when there is a wind of 25-35 mph pushing all that moisture. Recorded .10 inches of liquid, and just a dusting of snow on the ground at our station.

12/5/2012 6:00 AM 0.00 0.0 M M M After a "Fiery Red" sunset last night,and a bright sunrise this morning, I can say "Day has begun"! We have had no rain the past 24 hours. So far this week, only .3 tenths of an inch for our area, as I have noted on previous days. We are well behind our snowfall levels and moisture levels for the year, and I hope we do not get caught up with the remaining days of this year. So, we are 11 inches behind in totals for rain and snow so far this year, and nothing really going to change that in the forecast. Lake MI levels are dangerously low, more sunken ships showing up on the shores and in basins of harbors. Tonnage of shipping is down due to depths of harbors as well. There was nothing in the rain gauge this am, after recording a half inch yesterday morning.We had winds that were recorded at our station of 35-40 knots, but to our west we had reports of 70 mph, almost hurricane strength! I was on the road all day yesterday to Canada, and fought windy conditions all the way to Techumseh, ON. Then I had to return driving back into the winds! Not fun! Currently we have a temp of 35 degrees, sunny sky and no winds. Will be a quiet day weather wise here, snow will probably melt away by 3pm. have a great and safe day!

Looking at news this am, the severe cold has caused issues with residents in GR, watermain breaks and power lines snapping. We have a lake effect advisory in effect until 13:00 hours this day, the LE machine really cranked up in our area and easterly yesterday all the way into Canada. I was on the road yesterday to Windsor, and drove in snow showers all day. We have 8.5 inches of snow on our snowboard, an added 1.5 inches yesterday. Have a safe driving day, stay warm.

Lake effect snow was falling yesterday in Kalamazoo, but we were spared any snow in Barry County. Looking at snowfall totals versus average levels for this time of winter, we are way behind season totals. However, Muskegon County is reporting over three foot totals for the winter. Schools are closed in our area, and roads are icy and snow covered. Our snowboard recorded 6 inches of snow, more where it drifted and gathered in low spots in our drive and yard. Temp at 8am is 26 degrees, just right for more snowfall, however we have a bright sun shining at this time and clearing skies. We have had winds gusting to 45 mph all night, a mix of rain and warm air started yesterday afternoon, and we have snow only where it was piled up after plowing and shoveling. Green grass on the flat lawn areas and our snowboard is clean as a newly washed dinner plate! Currently we have a temp of 38 degrees, winds WSW at 22 mph, gusting to 45 mph, and a humidex reading of 67%. Forecast for our area is calling for more of the same all day, which will eliminate just about all of the white stuff. Have a great day!

US-131 was an ice rink, and so was m-43,m-37 and all of the secondary roads in SW MI. This am we have a dusting of snow on the snow board, nothing really measureable, and we have grass showing all over the yard. Currently we have a temp of 29 degrees, light winds out of SSW, and measuring at 8 mph, with a wind advisory in effect until noon this day. Our humidex is reading 74%, and we have cloudy skies. We had more melting time, s gone from the lawn, and gone completely from the snowboard. Radar is showing considerable cloud formation over our area and most of SW MI. This should diminish and clear out this afternoon and turn the air colder for the rest of the week. Colder air is forecast until Sunday for our area. It will take some time to get our lake effect snow machine in gear fortunately. We did get a recordable amount of melted snow overnight, but what ever we got on the ground as white stuff, is gone via evaporation! We have a lot of green grass showing and some sunshine currently. The morning was highlighted with overcast skies and light westerly winds. There is no snow on the snowboard, and nothing in the forecast to change that for the next 24 hours. Currently we have a temperature of 29 degrees, westerly winds at 9 mph, and sunshine! Humidex reading is at 78%, and a weather advisory is in effect for the next 36 hours.
2/16/2013 8:00 AM 0.10 M 0.10 0.5 0.10 The lake effect snow machine has licked into high gear this am, and we have managed to turn everything that was green at 6 am, into snowy white by 8 am. So far we have a half inch of the fluffy white stuff on our snow board, and .1 inches of moisture in the gauge, and it is coming down without hesitation! We have a temp of 19 degrees, and a slight wind at 2-5 mph out of the West.The humidex reading is at 85%, and showing the results in great fashion! Our neighbors to the west are getting snow is great amounts, around the Plainwell-Allegan areas, and North towards Grand Rapids as well. Will be an interesting day on the roads I am sure! We at this point have no measureable snow, as the rain has once again washed it all away with the temps being in the 40's yesterday. Currently it is 17 degrees, feels like -1 with the 15 mph winds from the WNW. Our humidex reading is at 74% and we have a trace of white stuff on the ground, just over a quarter of an inch. The wind has been moving it sideways the past two days, and it is not accumalating in any one spot. West of here however along the lake shore they are moving a lot of snow with plows and loaders. Last report has us still over a foot below season average for the season.

There was a band of snow that roared through our area and then "gone". Drivers had some fun manuevering across the State, and fortunately we had no major issues on the highways. Temps were near 40 yesterday, and we have lost a lot of our measureable snow at our station. A beautiful full moon was observed last night, and now the clouds have come in and prevents the sunshine we enjoy. The storm that has been ravaging the mid-west is fast approaching the great lakes area, and we are preparing for that. Be safe out there where ever you are. From Coldwater,MI to Ft Wayne, was blowing and drifting snow, roads were dangerous, traffic was traveling on the Interstate at 30 mph at best. Coming back, the snow shut off again at, and dry snowless roads prevailed. We were spared the grief Indiana, woke up to this am. Roads are somewhat slick out there this am, making travel a bit challenging. One thing I observed last night on some of our gravel roads, is the frost "pops" area where the frost has popped through the surface of the roads, and created sink-hole effects. Severe thunderstorms accompanied with winds and hail started at 03:00 this morning, and we have a measure of 1.15 inches of rain, so far. The Thornapple River is above flood stage, as we observed it in Nashville,MI last night and along the rivers traverse into Hasting.The Grand River is forecast to be at it's highest level ever recorded later this week. This could cause trees to uproot since the ground is saturated with water. Currently we have a temp of 38 degrees, winds at 18 mph, gusting to 30, and more rain on the way. We had rain and snow mix all day yesterday and into the night,woke up to a half inch of the white stuff with wet ground beneath.Currently it is 28 degrees out, light winds WSW at 8 mph, and cloudy skies. We had a temp drop from 78 late last evening to 63 degrees at mid-night, and that presipitated the tornado warnings, and lightening. we lost power just after mid-night, and came back up at 4 am. 6/1/2013 6:00 AM 0.17 M M M M What an interesting night last night was. We actually sat and watched the tornado activity in OK, rather than watch some of the regular scheduled programming. Sorry to hear that five lives were lost because of the storms, that is what happens when people are turned lose from their jobs early and clog the highways trying to get home. Our local hockey team was in OK City, preparing to play in their playoff game and of course it was cancelled. Heartfelt sympathy to those who are suffering this am. Currently here in SW MI, we have pending storms coming our way, it is overcast and windy here at our station. We have winds at 12 mph, from SSW, humidex reading of 90%, and a current temp of 65 degrees. we did get .17 inches of rain overnight, more to come. Looking up at Big Sable Point Lighthouse this am, I noticed they had 1.5 inches of rain from 5:30 am til 7:30, that is a lot of rain. Five years ago the 12th, they got 11 inches and roads and highways were washed away! It was not a fun time!

Severe weather passed through the area late last night and showered us with a lot of rain, but nothing like the Grand Rapids and Lansing areas. Some flooding occurred near Lansing, closing I-69 for several hours due to flooding, and eastward towards the Flint area. Currently here in SW MI, we have a temp of 60 degrees, light winds and clearing skies.We did get a measure of 1.15 inches of rain.
