Cold and dreary yesterday and at time of reading today. Fall has finally arrived. Rain on Sunday: Heard thunder coming from WNW around 7:25 am. At 7:40 am the rain started in large drops. To the WNW the sky was dark as can be, but to the E the sun was a bright red fire ball illuminating the sky as it was rising over the treetops. By 8:00 the rain had stopped and we had accumulated .04" I'm not sure when the remaining .02" fell. |

It was raining lightly at time of reading yesterday. The rain picked up throughout the day, and was constant, but never REALLY hard. The wind picked up in the evening which made driving around a little difficult around 6:30pm. It was better when I was out at 8pm. AT this time, the rain gauge read 1.24" of rain. I was watching the temp drop waiting for the snow to come. Finally, at 10:10pm those big rain drops turned into big snow flake clumps. The heavy, wet kind. The snow even collected a bit. Within 15 min the snow had turned into smaller flakes with the threat of sleet. There was enough slush on the patio table to make an ice ball, but not enough on the ground to do anything with. I did not measure it, since it was still falling when I went to bed, but I would estimate there was an inch of the white stuff. Upon waking this morning, the skies were clear and it was 30 degrees at 6:20 am. I tried to read the gauge at 7:10 am. Seeing ice in the top, I wanted to remove it to bring it inside to melt and measure. No such luck, as it was frozen in place. So, I had to breath on the side to melt that so I could at least peer in: 1.59" . Once it melted a few hours later I recorded 1.67" of precipitation. I have photos if you'd like. |

On Friday, I saw a few drops of freezing rain fall as early at 8:25am. by 10:30, the roads were wet, but it wasn't falling consistanly. The schools all had an Early dismissal (the first in over 10 years!). By 1pm, vehicles that had not been driven in a few hours, had a sheet of ice over them. By 5:00 pm the storm had passed, but the temp maintained 26 deg F all day. The ground has a thin coating of ice and it white in patches. Nothing to drive in, but nothing "fun" either (not a snow-day, just icy). On Saturday morning, I scratched through the ice on the picnic table to measure 3/16" thick. After waiting for the ice to melt in the rain gauge, the ppt measured .1" |

HORRIBLE weather last night. All day it was really really windy with the winds getting stronger throughout the day and constant. Not just gusts, but constant strong wind. In fact, many evening activities were cancelled due to the impending rain mixed with wind. SNOW!!!! YAY!!! Saturday morning started off in the upper 30's and dreary. It was raining by 8:00am. By 9:15 am the snow started. But it didn't really do much. It didn't collect and the flakes were borderline rain. The afternoon continued to be dreary. Updates from relatives to the East of us started at 4:15 pm with snow! And a ton of it. This was in Clover, SC - an hour drive away due E. Then, but 5:05 pm, Another update from only 15 min drive NE of us. SNOW and a ton of it. Then, at 5:15 it hit us. Oh my! Snow and a ton of it so fast. Within 15 min we had an inch of snow. The sticky kind - even better. Temps were in mid to low 30's. By 7pm I had build several snowmen that were 6 ft tall - not a common occurrence here. It was still snowing, but it was much lighter. Overnight the temps dropped into the 20's and the snow finally stopped. At about 8pm I measured it to be about 2.4" I let the snow that collected on top of the the rain gauge melt into it, which is how I arrived at .31". |

SNOW!!!! First flakes fell at 8:35 am. They started off as small flakes that didn't look like it would stick around. It was come and go for a bit, but it really hung in there. The temp hoovered in the mid-30's. The snow was not accumulating. At 11:45 am I drove north about 2 miles and the flakes became HUGE - like, 2" big and the snow was starting to collect! So pretty! This continued for a bit and then, before my eyes, it looked like the snow was never there by 1:00pm. No kidding. |

CRAZY weather! It was off and on rain all day. When it rained, it was usually for a short time (10 min) and it was just buckets of rain. Flash flooding. The yard had standing water. And when it wasn't raining, the sun was even shinning at times! We'd get one of these rain cells about once an hour or so. There was even thunder around 4pm. Really crazy. There was some rain around 7:30 am, including one clap of thunder, but only lasted about 15 min. By 9:40 am we had .3 in. Rain started again around 10:20 am. By 10:45 am we had .42" It was sunny around 2:00 pm and then the skies just opened up again. The rain was over by 6:30 pm. |

6:10 pm it the first thunder. 6:15 rain big hard drops. One min, then light rain, then hard rain again. 2 min later a bolt that scared me. Swear I saw sparks! Then pouring rain!! 6:20pm. I even called neighbors to check on them.

Thunder was approaching from the west and then at 6:55 pm the rain came fast and hard. It lasted for about 25 minutes and yielded .51". I must have rained some time else throughout the night, too. |

Light sprinkling on and off all afternoon beginning around noon. breezy. Then the solid rain started late afternoon, with heavier rain in the evening. Windy and rainy as I went to bed around midnight. After a wet summer, the last month has been dry. We even decided to water the lawn and gardens last week, even though the growth is slowing as the days are getting shorter and the temps are getting cooler. I am glad to have this rain. |
