Sunny, with a few high clouds, 61.4° 24hr: 57.8/71.3° Constant fluttering of falling leaves now, even without wind. There was 0.01" in the gauge this morning but I'm reporting zero because of the extremely heavy dew. There was condensation all over the gauge at 7pm last night while I was showing our neighbor how to take a reading. We'll be on vacation next week & I'll fill-in the missed dates after we get back. |

Sunny, 45.4° 24hr: 41.9/61.9° A beautiful night for meteor viewing was interrupted at 12.30am by a huge black bear who dragged our "bear proof" polycarbonate garbage can over to the side yard where the recliner is set up looking towards Orion. After a dozen or so persisent "thwacks" with his front paws, he got the lid off and scattered garbage everywhere. Great. Now they know how to open bear-proof cans! |

Overcast with extremely fine drizzle, 49.3° 24hr: 48.2/54.2° I thought it was just overcast until I looked up and felt the drizzle on my face, yielding a single drop in the gauge. Winds started last evening, but took several hours "off" overnight, to begin in earnest at 6:30am. Primarily from the NE, but swinging wildly from E to NW too. With NE or E storms we usually get a boost in rainfall amounts due to orographic lift; you wouldn't think 1,100 is enough elevation! |

First snowfall of the season began at 12:45pm yesterday. The 0.44" reported is actually the SWE from the snowboard; the snow had collected inside the top funnel and spilled over the back so it was an unreliable reading of the snowfall. Sunny, 47.3° 24hr: 41.9/50.9° FINALLY! After 14 days without power it was finally restored at 4:12pm! Truly, it's much harder being without power w/ Sandy than the days without power following Irene. Besides the ridiculous length of the outage, the freezing temps wtih daily lows in the 30*s (the lowest daily minimum of 20.3°) made this storm a real challenge. |

Mostly snow & sleet mixed with some rain, 34.1° 24hr: 24.5/33.7° Snow began around 2pm and started mixing with sleet around 4:30pm. At 5pm snow measured 3.3". By bedtime the snow had a thick glaze of ice on top. By this morning it was also VERY heavy, so overnight must have been a lot more rain. After TOR in the time it took to melt the snowboard core sample & gauge contents, it changed back over to snow. |

Cloudy, 25.4° 24hr: 24.5/33.5° The reported precip is from the sleet and then all snow that continued to fall yesterday until early afternoon. Very little melting, and the snowpack has frozen rock hard, so that it mostly supported my weight walking on top getting to the gauge this morning. Even with a metal ruler it was hard to "punch through" to get a reading of depth, so the 6" reported is only from 2 sample spots. Also, the 0.08 SWE from the board did not include a layer of ice at the very bottom that couldn't be picked up in the core sample. |

Sunny, 25.0° 24hr: 23.2/40.3° Moderate snow fell for an hour yesterday beginning at 11:15am before mixing with rain. Snow accumulated on all surfaces and town salted the roads. This morning there was a frozen disk of ice in the gauge. Snowpack is also all ice and very difficult to poke through; still holding at 100% coverage. |

Snowing, 27.9° 24hr: 26.5/40.5° All snow event here. I reported the snowboard amount as the gauge total because a thick "collar" of snow developed around the top ring and grew pretty tall, reducing the 'catch' measurement of 0.48" I think. The town still hasn't gotten here to plow our roads so they must be still working on the larger roads. |

Late afternoon the sun came out and melted all of the new snow/ice, leaving a clear disk of ice in the bottom of the gauge this morning. Overcast, with the first, light drops of rain beginning, 70° RH: 82% 24hr: 69/80° If I hadn't been outside checking the gauge I wouldn't even had know the drops of rain were falling. The rain in the gauge was from the rain that fell around noon yesterday from another "glancing blow" of a storm. |
