Then just before observation time, the rain turned back to snow and it is beginning to accumulate again. Total about 0.7" combined snowfall. I did not take a rain measurement.

We have definitely seen lake enhancement here and yesterday after that observation time the snow was falling at least an inch an hour in huge chunks. It piled up quickly. Later it was finer in nature and accumulated more slowly. Winter seems to have arrived right on the proper calendar date!

When I drove home, the demarcation of that blob was just as sharp in real life. No snow...then moderately heavy snow starting about 1.5 miles from my house, right where the solid green started. I believe this was responsible for most of the new snow that fell in this reporting period.

4/9/2013 7:00 AM M 0.0 M T M Thunderstorm rolled through around 12:15 am. Yesterday afternoon there seemed to be a temperature inversion going on. By my car's thermometer, driving home from work, it was 60 degrees in the valley at Ithaca (450' elevation or so) and in Brooktondale it was 68 (900' or so). Then at my house (1594') it was 64. Despite that I still have a gigantic patch of snow on the shady slope behind my house!

Strong winds gusted during the time of the graupel event, temp dropped 9 degrees (49 to 42) then went back up to 46 after the sun came back. Interesting little event! No frost this morning that I can see. 35F at observation time.

I missed that storm due to being at work but arrived shortly after it was over, before the road crews had been out. Significant wind damage here. Large limbs down from Brooktondale to my house, getting worse as I got toward home. Half a tree blocking the whole roadway 1/4 mile past my house, about a third of a tree partially blocking the road about 1/2 mile before. Small live branches (1/2" or less in diameter) down in abundance. Power was out for at least 6 hours but back on this morning.
