2/14/2013 7:00 AM 0.09 1.3 0.10 1.3 0.10 This snow was so fluffy and clingy that it had up to 18 mm (0.71 inches) of snow standing on the rim of the gauge. I carefully tapped the gauge to let it fall where it may, then carried it with half of that "rim snow" still on the rim, and allowed it to slowly melt near the fire. The SWE from the snow board was an incomplete sample because some of the first snow melted then re-froze on the surface and was not included in that sample. The difference between 0.09 in the gauge and 0.10 from the snow board (both entirely new snow) is believed to be the combination of gauge bias and sampling error.

Those two time estimates are entrirely independant from each other and should not have an accuracy estimate in common.

5/23/2013 5:50 PM It was difficult to evaluate the hail because the downpour of rain accompanying it overwhelmed the hail. Hail was only observed as it bounced onto the porch and may have only been the very largest stones. The very largest of those were measured as slightly less than 0.25" and most were less than one eighth inch. The only damage observed was the loss of some seed leaves from pumpkins that had just emerged from the soil and that loss could have been from the pounding rain as much or more than from the trivial hail. 1/4" Pea Size Rice NA White Ice 15 10min minor leaf damage True Same time as rain
