Yes - snow on the ground and measurable during the first week on October along the Front Range of the Colorado part of the Rocky Mountains. Rain started during the night as temperatures declined to near freezing by time of reading (34 degrees F). Wind whipped up rain and sleet around 5:15 am. Measured snow is just on the grass and other natural surfaces with dirt and mulch. Hard surfaces are too warm and snow is melting on contact.

Near hail conditions as rain drops seemed to become bigger and louder but none developed. Temeprature drop from 53 deg F to 41 deg F in less than 20 minutes. At time of reading temperature is 34 deg F under nearly clear skies. Overall, the perfect spring soaker for the yard and its plants.

5/10/2014 7:00 AM T M M M M Kept looking like more rain would fall but darker clouds came and went throughout the day.
5/11/2014 7:00 AM 0.33 0.0 0.00 M M A few sprinkles in the late afternoon and early evening. Then major rain started early morning. Rain continues at time of reading. Major temperature drop from about 70 deg F in the afternoon to 36 deg F at time of reading. Ground very saturated.
5/12/2014 7:00 AM 1.18 8.1 0.80 8.0 0.80 What a storm. True blizzard with high winds, drifts, sporadic mix of rain, snow, sleet and hail-like tiny pellets seemingly all mixed together like a lumpy stew. Plants have ice and many young branches are under incredible, near-breaking point stress. Snow and wind contines at time of reading. With drifts it is difficult to measure depth. Average taken at 12 locations across 0.25 acre yard. Springtime in the Rockies on Mother's Day. Temperature at time of reading is 31 deg F. Roads and concrete sidewalks cooled down enough to permit snow accumulation. Several snow blowers are operating in the neighborhood.

5/25/2014 7:00 AM 0.32 M M M M Big evening into the night storm complete with thunder, lightning, sleet and very small hail (solid precipitation was sporadic and seemingly random). Temperature dropped 18 degrees F from start of storm to peak around 9 pm. Ground at time of reading is very wet and spongy with areas of standing water. Of note, the pine trees have really enjoyed the water over the past week. Several younger trees, that have been stressed from dry conditions over the past two or three years, are showing extensive new growth. One five year old Ponderosa pine has candles nearly 12 inches long. One Black Hills pine, that was nearly dead after this past winter, is 100 percent recovered; even dry branches have new growth on their tips. Weeds are another story. The wind has been blowing in seeds from the nearby public open natural space and settling into the developed areas easily and taking opportunities to grow quickly. After seeing blue sky at 6 am today, the sky is already changing to darker clouds and another storm seems likely.
5/26/2014 7:00 AM 0.11 M M M M Early afternoon, fast moving storm. Some sleet but mostly rain. Beautiful morning with low humidity.

7/13/2014 7:00 AM 1.02 M M M M Big dump around 5 pm. Lasted about 20 minutes. Filled neighborhood flood retention/catch basins that are normally dry.
7/16/2014 7:00 AM 0.18 M M M M Crazy rain. Rare to have one storm in the afternoon and then a second, larger storm in the early morning. Each storm dumped 0.09 inches. Storm in the morning started with a bang - literally a big clap of thunder followed about five seconds later with a quick downpour.
7/30/2014 7:00 AM 1.21 0.0 0.00 M M What a set of storms. It is hard to believe it can rain like this in the south Denver metro area. Interesting observation: the rain was warm; felt very topical compared to the usual colder rain that has a slight chill to the water. At times rain came down in sheets as if Colorado had been transported to the Midwest USA. Quiet storm in terms of no hail, thunder or lightning. Light drizzle at time of reading with dark overcast sky and low cloud ceiling; impossible to see the mountains. Grass areas soaked with some standing water; garden is a small lake. Kids toys full of water. Trees look very happy to this type of deep soak. Also took a look at the house's sump pump. Normally, this type of storm would generate water flow into the sump hole. However, the ground was so parched from the recent 100 degrees F weather that this storm barely generated any water flow through the ground and around the house. The sump pump hole only had about 1 inch of standing water and the sump pump itself never turned on. The base of the pump is about 10 feet below the surface. Note: At 6 pm the rain gauge has 0.06 inches and the rain sensor for the sprinkler system was still not activated. First wave of the storm hit at about 7 pm. Cycled throughout the night from heavy downpour to drizzle and back again.
7/31/2014 7:00 AM 1.61 M M M M Lots of rain all day long with periods of heavy rain and periods of slow rain, but essentially non-stop rain. Ground is soaked. Standing pools in the grass, the garden, and anything that can contain water. Ponderosa pine trees look so happy. Their candles seem to be growing by the hour. Cool morning. Very light drizzle. Low clouds. Temperature at 51 degrees F.
8/20/2014 7:00 AM 0.06 M M M M Quick, fast moving afternoon rain storm. Great soaker. Lots of lightning and associated thunder. Certainly enough to turn off the sprinklers.
8/21/2014 7:00 AM 0.04 M M M M Quick, unexpected rain around 8:30 pm; just enough to turn off the sprinkler system. Beautiful morning at time of reading. Temperature outside is 59 deg F.

8/26/2014 7:00 AM 0.13 M M M M Quick fast rain with thunder and lightning. Cooler than normal temperatures at time of reading.
8/28/2014 7:00 AM 0.13 M M M M Quick storm. Chilly morning at 49 deg F. Ground is saturated. Sprinklers turned off. Sky is partly cloudy but seems to be building for another round of wet weather. Some lightning and thunder during the storm.

9/5/2014 7:00 AM 0.71 M M M M Several rounds of storms starting in the late Thursday afternoon and running on and off into the early morning hours of Friday. Very cool in the morning with temeprature at 53 deg F. Brooding skies with low ceiling and dark clouds; certianly looks like more rain is on the way. Ground is soaked. Grass lawns feel like sponges. Drains for gutters are full. Trees look very happy.

9/10/2014 7:00 AM 0.56 M M M M Raining at time of reading. Cool with temperature at 49 deg F. Ground is saturated. Rain picked up just as rain gauge was emptied. Rain came in two waves. Wave 1 was about 3 pm and left 0.31 inches. Wave 2 started in the morning (4 am?) and delivered several peak dumps over the next 90 minutes for the remaining 0.25 inches. Very dark and low clouds. Trees look very happy. Garden is a mud puddle. Grass is squishy. Of note: no thunder or lightning.
9/11/2014 7:00 AM 0.11 M M M M Rain ended early in morning. Day turned to clear sky and slightly humid conditions; warmer than expected. Changed overnight with light drizzle on and off in morning hours. Low cloud deck at time of reading with a few drops of rain spaced very far apart. Looks like it could rain. Temperature is 50 deg F. Ground is saturated and a few mushrooms are popping up in the yard which is very unusual.
9/12/2014 7:00 AM 0.17 T T T T Chilly with slight drizzle. Snow on multiple cooler horizontal surfaces but the snowfall is not consistent across outside landscaping. Temperature is 33 deg F. Rain fell on and off throughout the night and morning. Cold enough to collect red and near red tomatoes.
9/13/2014 7:00 AM 0.13 M M M M On and off rain throughout reporting period but at time of reading weather is clear and unseasonably cool.

9/22/2014 7:00 AM 0.53 M M M M Steady rain with periods of downpours, lightning and thunder throughout the evening after a day of humidity, clouds and still air. Cool morning with temperature of 51 deg F. Very cloudy at time of reading. Ground is soaked. Grass areas of yard are like a sponge. Standing water in garden and other dirt areas.
9/23/2014 7:00 AM 0.04 M M M M Quick, late afternoon rain. Grass areas still very wet. Temperature is 57 deg F. Clearing sky.
9/30/2014 7:00 AM 1.28 M M M M What a set of storms! First storm in mid-afternoon to early evening (about 3:30 pm to 5:30 pm) dumped 0.98 inches of rain with some scattered small hail. Second storm picked up at about 7:45 pm and dumped the remainder. Lots of thunder and lightning in both storm sets. Nearby, about 1 mile away, some areas had accumulated hail. Lots of wind during the storms. Very cool at time of reading at 49 deg F but skies are more than 50 percent clear. Ground very soaked. Standing water everywhere. Creek in neighboring open space is normally about 6 inches wide this time of year but after the first storm we measured the width at 16 feet in several places; very muddy and fast moving and dangerous for small kids. Overflowed the banks at all locations along its length. All nearby storm retention ponds were overflowing. Water picked up a lot of debris and garbage. Happiest plants are the pine trees, especially the ponderosas.
