Windy! Southerly Gusts as high as 40MPH overnight here, another 'pine-needlestorm' on our roof. partial clearing this AM with winds 15-20 from the NW. It does appear to have rained at some point in the two and half hours I got to rest this overnight. It was interesting watching the Jet slide-in over us on the Aviation-Digtal (ADDs)Display.

Interesting day in precipitation, after a lt rain most of the day (0.14" liquid Observed, at changeover) the changeover began after sunset started to noticeably accumulate by 9:00pm (1.0" frozen) continued overnight (another .01" snow) leading to an equally interesting calculation problem. 1.) there will be two melts one from the cup and 2.) from the Core. The core in this case may show less because the liquid from earlier has already dispersed beneath! *SO the '24 hour' gauge reading is accurate, AND the snow CORE reading (SWE) is accurate, even though it is less! |

All THAT... and just a dash of rain. 4P Severe Cell over Cent WA became outflow dominated, winds gusting to 50mph or more at airport(Over 90 mins). little precip but strong winds and several thunders all 'dry' were observed South of town into the fields. Tree damage included a 30' pine around the corner in Hereth Park snapped at the base fallimg to the East. Several other sites of widespread tree damage were observed on seemingly healthy foliate trees. mostly branches 5-8 feet in length. sustained winds of 50mph or more were observed and video documented. |

We had a large brush fire 7 miles northeast on the Ridge called Central Grade it consumed the entire hillside in a matter of hours and was contained equally as quick bya smokejumper team out of Grangeville that arrived at twilight and spent the night courageously knocking down and pushing back the despite down-slope winds. approximately 2.5 miles wide by 3,000' tall. |

The 2.5 mile-wide fire on Central Grade was contained overnight (awesome job to the firecrews and smoke-jumpers!) while we saw increasing clouds and a return to monsoonal flow, pumping the Hells Canyon heat down along the river. A severe storm over us produced a 'Trace' rain event (Actually they were 'mud drops') then a non-severe 8 minute storm later gave us the .03" at 9:52pm. We also had some unusual precipitate of a very tiny ash and a larger charred grass stalk. In the cup. It smells like burning fields and was very hazy 'red' through the day. The severe storm produced continuous thunder and lightning and some 30 or more additional fires were reported throughout EA WA and NO ID. |
