Sig Weather reported yesterday at 5 pm: 0.5 in new snow is average from snow board; I put second gauge out so that I could bring in gauge and measure the melted snow as of now. Snow began about 12:45 pm and has snowed at moderate rate all afternoon, flakes have ranged from grain-of-rice-sized to dime-sized spatial dendrites. Light snow falling right now at 15 degrees.
After that, light snow showers continued into the evening so at 8 am today very fluffy lacy flakes in gauge that only melted to a trace of additional snow, so new snow remains at 0.1 in. with new snow on board remaining at an average of 0.5.

At 1:00 pm I went to an area of the yard where the snow is 20 inches (that was the average of many measures this am), dug a trench ala the video, took a core with my first gauge, then took the rest of the core down to the grass with my second gauge. 10am update: SWE of 4.029 - after digging a trench used 2 gauges to get all snow to the grass - scale measures to whole grams. Just noticed that today IL-LK-11 reported 17.5 total inches on ground and reported an SWE of 4.03, so our measures are in a similar ball park.
Snow melted and measured = 4.15 - not sure about disparity so wanted to report it. Snow began falling moderately heavy about 9:45 am - occasional wind gusts causing it to blow.

Yesterday heard thunder rumbling in distance at 12:55pm, got very dark by 1:20pm and limbs of trees began swaying and frequent lightning and thunder, rain began at 1:22 pm, temp 79, humidity 85, dew point 74.
At 1:32pm had 0.32 in. in Davis gauge.
At 1:35pm had 0.42 in Davis gauge.
At 1:55pm had 0.71 in Davis gauge and tem 70, humidity 90, dew point 67.
About 2pm the electricity went off for about 10 sec. – wiped out Davis gauge and set it to zero. When rain ended Davis had 0.07, so it registered about 0.78 total.
At 3:22pm had not heard thunder for about 30 min., so went outside to check rain gauge and it had 0.82 in.
Wind had been strong enough that the trumpet vine was dislodged from the top 5 ft of the 25-ft-tall oak tree stump that it vines up - have never seen this happen in a rain storm before. My gardens needed this rain so it was welcome.
