I forgot to take the funnel out (not used to snow), so turned the big cylinder upside down on a flat surface and slipped something underneath. I'm not sure how accurate the melted value is, but it's pretty close, I scrapped the grass when I picked it up. It started snowing between 4 and 5 am, and never stopped. Very dry snow this morning, bigger flakes this afternoon.

After I took the reading at 3:30 yesterday, it snowed of and on till after 10 pm, when I went to bed. Bright sunshine today. I was interested that the measurements I took yesterday of 7.5" were 6" at the same spots today, even with the added snowfall.

The rain was off and on, it had stopped when I went to bed. It started snowing around 8:45 am this morning, and there is 1.5" on top of the 2" base, the crust in between. It's dumping snow, has been since it started this morning.
2/8/2014 8:00 AM 1.37 M M 5.0 M The power is out at home, and I had a confusing time getting my daily reading. My gauge was a mix of frozen rain and frozen snow, I brought it in and added .73 of very warm water, eventually melted the ice frozen to the rim and sides. When I measured the total, it was 1.37". I was so surprised at the total, I'm afraid I added more water to melt but forgot to write it down. There was at least a half inch frozen rain on the trees, branches were falling all over town, and a large limb down the street fell and took out our power. Pacific Power says it might not be till tomorrow night till we get power again. The robins were picking holly berries off the neighbors Christmas wreath, the ground was covered.

I hear it's been the worst pollen season in a long time, this has been my experience as well. It feels funny to be getting burrs in my socks, as I usually do in late July, and pollen clouds from the grasses, at the same time as I walk through my field.
