Precipitation from two strong thunderstorms passing through this area. The first started yesterday evening at 7:35 PM and lasted about 2-1/2 hours. The second storm started at 12:05 AM and lasted about 2 hours. There was much lightning and thunder in both storms. The lightning rate in the second storm was very high -- nearly continuous. Wind velocity in both storms was probably around 50 MPH or more. Some tree and leaf damage, but no damage to homes or buildings. Was prepared to take cover in case of a local tornado.

Second (weaker) storm came through around midnight; also with winds, lightning, thunder, but also without sleet or hail. TIMES given below are only for the first, afternoon, heavier rain-storm event. Second storm around midnight probably lasted only about 1 hour. There was a tornado touchdown 40 miles southwest of here yesterday afternoon, in the small town of Philadelphia TN. Some homes were torn up but no known injuries. |
