Major storm yesterday which began early morning hours yesterday (storm total by early afternoon was .79") culminating by a line of severe thunderstorms 2pm hour (an additional .15" from that thunderstorm). Hailshower (small hail), rain, a whole lot of lightning strikes in our area, 2 or 3 of those strikes only about a block or 2 away from us, mulitple funnel clouds in Sacramento area. the high was 58F prior to thunderstorm, all that ice falling in the air helped drop the temperature to 48F during the first minute of hailstorm, bottoming out at 45F (cooler than morning low) during the middle-later part of thundershower, the main precip band lasted maybe 15 or 20 minutes...it thundered for like 45 minutes (counting the low rumblings as it approached). afterwards warmed back up to 57F with a final storm total of .94" |

We missed the record breaking historic thunderstorm just up the road from us to the north and east late yesterday that dumped a large amount of rain and hail in a very short time...upwards of 2.75" in Roseville, .5" to 2.33" in Folsom. Numerous lightning strikes in those same areas to the northeast and east of us. Thunder was not audible here however. Just a Trace of rain here during the 4pm hour, total was .03" by the end of 6pm hour, grand total of .05 by late night. No rain at all in parts of Sacramento! Firecracker hot! even at night...high yesterday was 107F, still 90F at 10pm and 84F at midnight. LOW THIS morning was 73F. June saw 6 days of 100 degrees plus...the most 100 plus days during a month of June in the 22 yrs of record keeping along with June of 2006...the year we had the biggest heatwave in history for the region during July of that same year...you remember, cooling centers, all time highs etc etc. The new rain season begins today, Rain total from the season that just ended (July 1 2014 to Jun 30 2015) was 15.49" (67% of normal) here at this station compared with 12.85" the previous yr. |

The average July high/low here at this station is 93F and 61F (out of the 22 yrs of record keeping)(compare to 92/58 at SAC..they are closer to natures air conditioner..the delta breeze). Average number of days of the temps being 100 and above per year is 13 days. (we already had 8 such days this summer). By the way my average around 10 yrs ago was still 93/61 and 13 days of 100's so no major climate change here at this station anyway over recent yrs. looks like smoke towards the west side of the valley this morning(from multiple fires up north), 90ish yesterday, low this morning 58 degrees (cooler than previous morning) will be HOT today and tomorrow. |

official high here at this location yesterday was 104F (unofficially 106F in the normally hotter backyard, and 105F in the shade in breezeway next to backyard both were up 1 degree from previous day)....13 days of triple digits this summer so far. Normal for entire summer is 13 days. We normally would have another couple of triple digit days before Summer is over with at this point. Cooler this morning, low was 62F. |

highs yesterday was the mid 80's and low this morning was 51F..coldest since last May. Multiple 100 degree days are in the forecast later next week, followed probably by convective rains at the end of heat wave by day 8 or so. |

Mercury climbed to 105 degrees yesterday at this location..the hottest I have ever seen during the month of September in my 22 yrs of record keeping. (possibly an all time September high for area). Record high for the month at SAC and downtown Sac is 108 and 109 respectively but thermometers typically read 3-5 degrees too high in the instrument shelters that was used in the old days, so actual highs were probably around 105 give or take a degree or 2. Smoggy day yesterday, smoke layers as well, like we have today. Low this morning was 67 (up 2 degrees from previous morning). |

sprinkles after yesterday observation. By the way, the low temperature yesterday morning was 70F which was the warmest September low since 1998. We had 18 days this summer of 100 degrees or over...normal for entire summer is 13 days. |
