I estimate that about .07 pcpn fell as ZL. S- after midnight as temperature fell to upper teens. Don’t know when pcpn ended: wild guess: 0400 MST 09 Jan. Total pcpn .10, new acc 0.7. Total on ground 2.0". Old snow cover was reduced to just over 50% coverage during the afternoon of 08 January, but I deemed coverage still continuous--barely.

Accumulation of snow seemed concentrated downwind of Valmont power plant, a situation that has occurred before but very rarely, perhaps once every ten years. 0.2" snow accumulated by the time precip ended, with a water content of .03".

Snow picked up to S5/8 by 0810 MDT 16 Apr 2015 with 0.5” on deck rails, and grassy areas becoming white. Briefly S+1/4 0900-0930 MDT, but still S3/8 at 0935 MDT. Snow decreased to S-3/4 ~1040 MDT. Snow ended ~1130 MDT, with 3.0” accumulated on the grass. Water content .44” since 0700 MDT. R--S-- mixture was falling at 1210 MDT with visibility of 3 miles. R- predominated all afternoon. Snow level rose to about 6000 ft. At 1930L, pcpn +.21 since 1210L. Some of the morning’s snow melted during the afternoon. R-/R continued steadily all night, sometimes mixed with melting snow. Overnight precip measured at 0720 MDT 17 April 2015. Snow board was merely wet at 1930L 16 April but had 0.4” of wet slush on it at 0720 MDT. There was also a layer of slush floating in the rain gauge. Total accumulation on the ground 2.5" of very dense, slushy snow. Pcpn since 1930 MDT 16 April +1.48" for a storm total so far of 2.14".

Occasional RW the rest of the afternoon thru mid evening, embedded in R-/R-- that seldom let up. At 2220 MDT, precip +.62 since 1430 MDT. RW- 2300 MDT 08 May until 0030 MDT 09 May, then a respite from measurable precip. At 0650 MDT 09 May, awoke to sound of heavy rain and either graupel or hail, 1/4" in diameter. There was enough ice to cover the deck and somewhat whiten the vegetable garden. This lasted < 5 min. Precip measured at obs time since 2220 MDT 08 May +.23" for a 24-h total of 1.17".

Occasional dim sunshine 1030-1130 MDT, but then low overcast reformed and thickened. R- began again 1505 MDT. Intermittant R- thru the evening as temperature fell thru the 40s. R- changed to S- by 2000 MDT, with temperature at 35 deg F. Precip +0.09". S- or S 2000 MDT 09 May to 0015 MDT 10 May. By 0015 MDT, snow accumulation 4.2", water content +.34, temperature 30 deg F, snow sticking to trees which were already in leaf. We lost a large branch from our flowering crab tree, but no other damage readily apparent nearby. At obs time, SW-- falling, sun dimly visible, 33 deg F (overnight min was 29 deg F), snow depth 5.5, new depth since 0015 MDT 1.3" with water content of +.08". 24-h total 1.09"
