The front of my house, facing west, has almost all the snow melted off the porch; but the back deck, facing east, still has about 7 inches of snow on it. I measured the remaining snow and it was mostly 1.5" deep, with the deepest being 3" (in undisturbed areas). About 1/3 of total snow has melted. There were some hard chunks of ice in the driveway still and in shady parts of the road. == After sunset (maybe 5-6pm) I went outside to walk to the garage, and my feet crunched as I walked on the deck. There were tiny rice size round snow on the deck , maybe 1/2" apart, single layer. When I went out again about 10:30pm, it was a shear, thin covering of ice on the deck and everywhere. Even the gravel on the driveway was stuck together with an icy glaze. In the morning, it was still icy. There was a very thin layer of ice in the gauge. there was a sort of mist in the air, as you looked into the distance, that blocked the view (about 400 feet away).--38 degrees at 12:30pm noon |

(at 4:22pm there was a trace of snow falling; nothing accumulated). At approximately 10pm there was 1/8 inch of snow covering ground; texture was more like grapel = tiny hard snow. Then at 10:50pm, looked outside and there was 5" of snow!! I went out again at 12:50 am and there was another inch of snow. That is when I measured the content of the gauge and did a Signifcant Weather report=.26 precip/and 6" snow in about an hour. It was 35 degrees; very still.= At around 11pm when the first heavy snow fell could not see more than about 100 feet. when I checked again at 2:30am, it was clear. = Next morning, only accumulated 1/4" more snow = .02 precip. Note, there was no snow on the ground prior to this snowfall. |

It started to snow around 12 noon, little tiny round dots of snow, and then got heavier around 1pm, and seemed to snow all day. It was small flakes but thick so you could see it. I wiped off the railing 3 times, and each time another 1/2" fell. In early morning hours, another 1/2" fell. = Overcast in morning. About 50% of the snow was melted to the ground, during the day; meaning 50% of the land was dry grass. At night, about 9-10pm snow fell, about 1/2". At 3am I measured it at 3/8". In the morning there was anohter 1-1/4". For a total of just under 2". It was newly snowing at the time of measurement. Didnt get warm enough to melt any snow, (about 23 degrees), although it was warmer during the day (only) than the last couple of days. Next morning the snow started to fall off the trees more frequently. The light-weight snow has not settled much either. The original 7" is now 6". Sunny. I did not see it snow, so I dont know if the snow in the gauge was from flying existing snow, or a real snowfall. I know that at night (eg, midnight) the deck got slick and felt icy or frosting, so it might be moisture in the air. |

In the morning it was sunny and warm and things started to melt. temperature dropped and overcast, and it started to snow in mid-afternoon. By 5pm the roads were thick with wet snow and a layer of ice underneath--including my deck--from the earlier melting snow. At 5:45pm there was 2-1/4" of snow with a precip measurement of .13. Hwy 36 between Pinewood Springs and Estes Park was like a sheet of thick white ice at 8am. You could literally see the ice. It wasn't just slush or a thin layer. I had trouble opening my car door, and my windshield whippers never thawed out (icy) till mid-day (they had got wet from 2 days ago). Sunny. No new snow. By 5pm, the main streets were melted and dry, except for a few spots that did not get enough direct sun. In the morning the mountains and trees were covered in snow, and by 5pm, most had melted off the trees. I forgot to measure the remaining snow this morning bec. no new snow fell. |

Sunny day and snow melting. Many spots on the gravel street are muddy and small puddles (leaving foot imprints). At 4pm it was 44 degrees (high for the day). Sunny day, but got overcast in late afternoon. Very windy at night; From approx. 7pm to 9:30pm it was very windy, reaching up to 70-75 mph as the evening got on. And I'm not talking about a couple minute gust, but longer periods of several minutes. Occasional wind after that, but rare. At 11:30pm I went outside and saw that the deck was wet. -- In the morning, I heard strong winds in the distance and could even see some trees blowing in the wind, but it was placid at my place. |

It started to snow around 1:15pm. Got heavy about 2:45pm, and started to accumulate on the deck. Snow was big flakes and heavy/wet and stuck to trees. It continued to start (7pm) and stop (8pm) and start and stop (9pm) all night. At 2:30am it was snowing, and 3/4" accumulated. It was 34 degrees at 2:45 when the heavy snow started. In the gauge, there was a thin layer of ice on the bottom (as well as on my deck). this morning, there were thick white clouds around the tops of the mountains, but around my home, there were just blue skies. In some places, there was only 2" of snow, but I think it was due to the ground being warm. |

Dry day till night time. Left the house at 6:45pm to go to Estes, Hwy. 36 northeast, and when I was a couple of miles outside the town, the streets were wet, but no rain. Did see some lighting. I was indoors 7-8:30pm, and when I came out it looked like it rained again, till I put on my wipers, and there was slush on the wipers. As I drove home at 9pm, 12 miles, it started to snow, big thick chunks, which sometimes turned into hail (sparse and briefly) as I could hear it hitting the car metal. During the thickest snowfall, I stuck my hand out the window and it felt like globs of wet snow, not hail. It got to bad I couldn't hardly see the road -- it was flying toward the car window. Once I hit Big Elk Meadows (about 11 miles outside of Estes Pk) it all stopped.== No snow, hail, rain. Pinewood Springs roads/ground were wet, but not soaked or muddy. When I got to my deck, there were 3/8" hail balls on it, in a state of melting (transparent in color); looking like a soup of hail, but could see some of the deck too. A small number were still whole and white; I picked up a couple of solid looking ones, and it was squishy; I could squeeze it down to half the size and it felt like a cotton ball (it didnt dissolve).=== Went out at 11:30pm and all snow was melted, and you could see dry parts on the deck (maybe a third dry), but the moisture that was there was ice. 41 degrees.== Same at 3:30am == Got up at 5am, and it was the same, icy. == went out at 10am, and there was snow, and snowing. The measurement for the original hail/snow was .04 and the total at 10am (or a bit later) was .24. The snow is wet and heavy. It quickly started to cover up the deck where I swept; leaving tiny white dots.Sky is a light solid grey. 33 degrees. |

Snowed all day, but did not show in the height, because it was so wet and heavy, it weighed it down. (It was extremely heavy to shovel; like slush). It never seemed to change it's height "in appearance." Started at about 2.5" and got up to almost 4". This morning it was soaking wet snow at and was 3.5". Clumps starting falling off the tree branches during the day, and off my roof at night, and continued all night; and this morning 90% is off the trees. At night the deck was covered in slushy snow and had frozen underneath and was extremely slippery. Some people couldnt get their smaller cars up the mountain roads. == It stopped snowing about 3:30pm, and re-stared at 5:30pm lightly; and stopped again closer to sunset. At 3:30 it was 36degrees. == these measurements are exactly 12 hours apart = 1.19 total new snow precipitation. right now sleet fell, but didnt last long. It is 35 degrees. |
