Gauge had layer of ice on bottom. Began as rain at 5:00 pm and snow at 7:00 pm Measuring the ground for about 100 feet ranged from (a drift not measured) 6" to over 12" with most measurements being 9 to 11". Random spot I picked happened to be all new snow. There are spots with old snow, just didn't happen to be where I measured. Wind is NNE over 20 mph. Temp relatively mild 26°. Quite beautiful out as long as "out" is viewed from "in"! |

Snowed & blowed all day. Moon shining at 10:00 pm so snow had really stopped. Tried to get measurements today. Can't find snowboard. Apparently under a drift. Tried to measure snow on the ground. Couldn't find 2 spots to agree. In the most level LOOKING area it went from 12" to over 20". This was not a drifted area. I don't know how accurate the guage is since most of the day snow was more or less horizontal. DTS probably should really be 12+ inches. |

Cannot account for difference in moisture. Gauge went from abt .1 to 7" or about 3.5 inches. New snow was measured on large asphalt drive which was clear at the beginning and measurements ranged from 1.5" to 5" and averaged 3.5". I took the core sample from a 3.5 area. The snow board has to be moved. It is in an area where snow drifted away and has nothing. Measured at 5:00 pm. and 23 had 2.5" with .2 inches of moisture. |

Snow on the ground is probably a better measure than most. Took 18 samples from the most level spot in the yard covers an area about 200 sq feet. Of all the samples none came up at 5" so I measured until I found a 5" spot. Some snow very light an fluffy, other I can walk on a make almost no impression. The icy snow made it difficult to get the measure to the bottom of the snow. |

Snow began after midnight. At 5:00 am we had sleet. By 6:00 am south facing windows covered in ice. I use the weight method to measure snow. Gauge was ice covered so I weighed it that way and it had .08 of ice on the outside - mostly to the south. We are having fairly strong winds. Measured the ground next to Mar 2 measurement and within a couple feet there was almost bare grass and 10" of snow - it looked even. Not obviously drifted. At 7:00 am it was still sleeting. As I report this 7:20 it seems to have stopped. Just cloudy and temp 27°. |

wow what a sound and light show we had. Rain began around 9:00 p.m. and it was still raining at 2:30 a.m. Thunder and lightning began at least an hour earlierand I have no idea when it finally moved on. .35 inches came in the am -after 10:15 and before 2:30 pm. The rest came overnight. Mostly c to c with occasional c to g. Creek did not seem to be over full so no local flash flooding. The thunder & lightning were almost continuous the entire 5 plus hours. |

Two rounds of storms one began at 2:15 = .35" one at night .37" more. Total for Sep so far 5.92". Most rainfall for any month this year and most for any Sept since I began CoCoRahs. Apparently missed some flooding yesterday. Our little creek flows into Johnson Creek near Thomson and that flooded many farm fields just east of Thomson and even closed the road for awhile. |

Quite heavy overcast, no wind, temp 63° bar 30.1. Watch for the super moon eclipse. A lot of harvesting done this past week.

Cloudy, but moon was very bright in western sky at abt 6:45. Eclipse became visible about 1/2 way through and whole sky was clear until about 9:30 when clouds moved in again and it was totally black not a star to be seen anywhere. Still a good show at prime time.
