11/25/2014 8:00 AM 0.53 2.4 M 4.0 M Yesterday about 10:10am rain changed to nickel-sized wet snow flakes. I put out new rain gauge and brought in the other and measured 0.20 in. that had fallen as rain, and Davis gauge measured 0.17. Snow continued for the afternoon, tapering to light flurries about 6:00pm. This am snow in gauge melted to 0.33 in. for a 24-hr total of 0.53 in. New snow is interesting: found an average of 2.4 in. on two snow boards this am, but many measures over the back yard averaged 4.0 inches, suggesting that some of the snow blew off of the boards? It was very winding yesterday and last evening. 8 am measures: temp 16, humidity 84, dew point 14.

12/8/2014 8:00 AM 0.10 0.0 M 0.0 M light rain turned to slushier, freezing-type rain as I was making my observation. Dogs were looking up at the ceiling because they heard it making an unusual noise as it fell on the roof. did not see an accumulation on branches.

12/15/2014 8:00 AM T 0.0 M 0.0 M overcast, temp 44, humidity 92, dew point 41. yesterday was very foggy, and drizzle was heavy enough that I wore a raincoat to fill the bird feeders and made it necessary to use the windshield wipers. driving to Crystal Lake I noticed clumps of snow that I had not noticed before - all at least 15 ft. from the road so not due to snow plows. counted at least 15 varying in size from tennis ball to about 18 inches long - all on the north side of hilly areas. on the way home from St. Charles about 2 pm it was moderately foggy - could see OK but it was hazy about 200 ft ahead.

Then saw light snow in 10-11pm period. Surprised the new snow averaged only 2.4 in. on two snow boards because I shoveled the dog run twice, and each time had at least 2 inches of new snow (perhaps previously fallen snow kept drifting back into the run?). Total snow is average of areas all across the lawn, and 8.0 total in. is consistent with 2.4 in. of new snow added to what was on ground yesterday of 5.5 in. This am bright sunshine, temp 0 (was -1 @ 7:30am), humidity 47, dew point -16. Some of the area school districts remain closed, some have opened.

The 7.0 in. total snow is average of many areas of back yard, and most samples were very close to 7 in., i.e., this average is not comprised of widely varying depths, rather, snow is consistently about 7.0 inches.

At home a few flakes continued to fall as late as 11:30pm last night. This am dime sized flakes are falling in a snow shower. Very puffy snow (not a solid mass) had accumulated on both snow boards at a depth of 0.7. I added 0.3 in. water to the lacey, puffy flakes in the tube, and when measured, it still came to 0.3, so reporting a trace of melted snow. this am is overcast, temp 11, humidity 54, dew point -2.

Today's report is second consecutive day where I observed new snow on board, and snow in guage melted to a trace. Over 2 days saw 1.0 in. (0.7 yesterday and 0.3 today) of very light airy snow on board (could see space between the flakes) accumulate to one inch, and both days melted snow was a trace. Perhaps if measured both days' snow in gauge together it might have reached 0.01. Today is overcast, temp 6, humidity 54, dew point -7.
