No precip fell and we remained dry here now for the 19th day without any precip.

Yesterday's high temp was 88F with partly cloudy to mostly cloudy skies and gusty south to southwest winds. Leaves were falling everywhere yesterday with south gusts up to 24 mph at the airport. Light rain began falling in the wee hours of this morning and will continue as a strong cold front moves through the region this afternoon. Highs tomorrow are predicted to be only in the high 50s to low 60s. Fall has finally arrived, but for how long?

Yesterday's high temp of 79F occurred at midnight as a strong cold front approached from the northwest bringing much needed rainfall. The skies remained cloudy all day and with breezy winds out of the south gusting up to 30 mph. The only period of heavy rain was brief occurring at around 7:00 p.m. last night when the cold front was actually just west and ready to pass and the winds gusted up to 37 mph at the airport.

Yesterday's high temp was 60F with mostly cloudy skies in the morning and afternoon and then clearing skies towards early evening and overnight. Strong west winds blew during the morning into the afternoon with gusts recorded at the airport up to 43 mph. The winds shifted out of the southwest and then the southeast later in the early evening and subsided to light wind overnight.

A brief thunderstorm with moderate rainfall passed just before midnight last night, otherwise it was dry all day before that. Yesterday's high temp was 67F with mostly cloudy skies all day until early evening when it became mostly clear. The winds out of the south and southwest gusted up to 23 mph briefly in the afternoon and remained fairly brisk all day.

Yesterday morning after the observation, thunderstorms developed to the west and passed through the station. Light rain continued to fall off and on for several hours before ending by early afternoon. Cloudy skies became mostly cloudy the rest of the afternoon with light and variable winds becoming west with gusts up to 20 mph. The high temp reached to 71F. More thunderstorms developed to the west and northwest in the early evening but missed this location. Pea, quarter, and golf ball-sized hail was reported in the Metro area but none fell here.
10/8/2014 6:20 AM 0.16 0.0 0.00 0.0 0.00 Current temp is 54F with clear skies and calm wind. The "blood moon" lunar eclipse is in progress and the moon is almost totally eclipsed by the earth. I'm hoping to see the red glow in around 30 minutes. Yesterday's high temp was 76F with light rain in the late morning and ending by early afternoon. The clouds remained overcast through the day as a strong cold front pushed through the area late yesterday creating severe storms just to the north and northeast of this location. The winds were from the south, then southwest gusting up to 21 mph. Later in the day the winds shifted again from the southwest to west with gusts up to 37 mph. Clearing skies began late in the evening as the storms moved off to the south.

The winds were out of the southwest most of the day with some gusts up to 20 mph. Today's forecast calls for tropical moisture moving in from the west from remnants of a tropical low from the Pacific.

Overnight, light rain and a thunderstorm occurred and has tapered off to just light rain for now.

Yesterday morning a trace of rain fell just after the observation. Yesterday was dry and cloudy to mostly cloudy the rest of the day. Winds were out of the east to southeast with a high temp of 72F. The radar shows a large area of rain moving from the southwest to northeast across the area and looks to last a good part of the morning.

Yesterday morning light rain fell (0.13) for a short time before stopping and the rest of the day was dry. The high temp reached to 79F with mostly cloudy skies. South to southeast winds blew with gusts up to 31 mph during the day and evening. As the cold front moved slowly from the west light to moderate rain started around 10:00 p.m. and it has rained all night accumulating another 0.83 inches of rain at this observation. More rain can be seen on the radar at this time moving up from the south and southwest.

Yesterday morning the rain continued after the observation and 0.50 inches fell before stopping around late morning. The rest of the day was cloudy to mostly cloudy with some peeks of sunshine. Southeast to south wind remained strong and gusty with gusts up to 26 mph. Later in the afternoon off and on waves of sprinkles gave up another 0.01 inches of rain. The high temp was 70F. The low pressure causing this unsettled weather is still slowly moving across the Ohio Valley and is predicted to cause more rain today.

Light rain and drizzle began falling again by late morning and fell off and on through the afternoon before stopping by early evening. The winds remained light and steady from the south to southwest all day.

Yesterday's high of 61F occurred early in the afternoon due to thick cloud cover later in the day cooling temps down to the mid to low 50s. A few sprinkles of rain fell during the afternoon while I was doing some leaf raking, otherwise it stayed dry the rest of the day. Wind west in the morning shifted to the southwest with gusts up to 21 mph before shifting to the south the rest of the day and evening. Today a warming trend starts with lots of sunshine and highs in the 70s.

It remained dry with mainly southwest winds gusting, at times, up to 30 mph. The trees are starting to show good fall color, especially the maples. This weekend is a good time for a drive up into the Indiana Knobs. Frost is predicted for tomorrow morning, especially outside of the city.

Yesterday morning light rain started falling right about 7:00 a.m. and stopped by around 10:00 a.m. Cloudy skies gave way to mostly cloudy skies after the rain and then by early afternoon partly cloudy skies prevailed the rest of the day before becoming mostly cloudy by evening. The winds out of the southeast in the morning became south and then southwest with gusts up to 32 mph in the afternoon. The leaves are beginning to pile up in the yard and need to be picked up and/or mulched.

The maple tree in front is almost in full colors of orange and some red.

Thick fog developed here after the morning obs and was more dense than we've seen in a long time. Finally, the fog burned off by mid morning and the winds picked up some out of the southwest with some gusts in the afternoon up to 16 mph. The leaves continue to fall off the maple tree and the sycamore in the back yard. Today should be a nice day to pick them up or mulch them in place with plenty of sunshine predicted.

Yesterday set a new record high temp (old record 84F, 1940) of 85F with gusty southeast to southwest winds up to around 33 mph. It was partly to mostly cloudy most of the day. It remained dry all day with leaves dropping and blowing from the trees. The radar is lighting up to the northwest and west with rain and thunderstorms predicted for this afternoon and evening with a strong cold front moving into the region.

The temps slowly fell from that point as a strong cold front progressed through the region. The daytime high was around 60F at 4 p.m. Light rain fell off and on through the morning before ending by early afternoon. Southwest winds gusted up to 30 mph before shifting to the northwest briefly with gusts up to 26 mph. Mostly cloudy skies were the rule for the day into the evening and overnight.

Yesterday's high temp was 52F with light rain in the morning hours into mid afternoon. The clouds cleared to allow some sun to shine for a few hours before sunset and then the next wave of light rain began right around "trick or treat" time. The winds were out of the southwest early in the morning and shifted to the northwest before noon. They were very strong and gusty up to 28 mph. I didn't observe any snow or sleet before turning in around 11:00 p.m. last night but the airport reported light rain and snow overnight but no accumulation was observed this morning.

The high temp yesterday was 46F with a very blustery north wind gusting up to around 28 mph during the morning and afternoon hours. By late afternoon the winds calmed down to a gentle north breeze and mostly cloudy skies became partly cloudy. The temps started slowly dropping in the afternoon into the evening until it finally reached the below freezing point overnight.

The winds were out of the south most of the day with an occasional gust up to 23 mph. It remained dry. Changes are coming for us with a very strong blast of Arctic air heading toward us for Wednesday and Thursday. I don't look forward to this drastic change. :(

Yesterday was a nice fall day with mostly cloudy skies and south to southwest winds gusting up to 25 mph. By early afternoon a strong cold front started progressing through the area with light rain. The high temp reached to 65F in the afternoon before a quick drop to temps began with the cold frontal passage. By early evening the temps were already in the 40s to high 30s. The rain ended by mid evening and northwest winds began to decrease after gusting up to 22 mph.

It was cloudy to mostly cloudy all day with a brisk northwest wind and off and on scattered snow flurries. The snow did not accumulate and only evaporated in the dry air. I still say it's too early for the cold temps and wish it would move on. But, the models are showing us a different story and it appears that the cold will linger for a while. :(

The temps slowly fell overnight and into the day as another cold front approached during the day. West to northwest winds in the morning became west with gusts up to 24 mph in the afternoon hours. The winds calmed some during the evening and finally shifted again to the northwest. Mostly clear skies by late morning became clear during the day and evening hours. The sun was nice but really didn't warm you any at all during the day as the temps fell into the low 20s and upper teens. Except for some stray scattered snow showers after the morning obs, it was dry the rest of the day. I didn't see any snow flurries or showers at this location.

The northwest winds picked up and gusted up to 25 mph. A trace of snow was seen on the snowboard.

Sleet started falling by late afternoon and then switched over to all snow as the temps dropped to the freezing level. Ponding of water in the street and front easement was noticed before the snow started, so some layers of ice will be under the snow pack. Total snow measured on the snowboard was 9.0 inches.

The water has drained away fairly well with the light nature of the precip but the ground is still saturated.

Northwest winds later gusted up to around 35 mph before shifting back to the south overnight. Yesterday's high temp was 75F. No hail was observed here but plenty of rain, thunder, and lightning. The drainage easements are all flooded and are having trouble handling the excess water.

Potentially severe thunderstorms developed to the west by late afternoon and caused several radar determined tornado warnings and severe thunderstorm warnings as well as flash flood warnings due to the heavy rain falling out of the storms. Rainfall rates were in the order of 1 inch per hour at this location. The storms ended by sunset and the rest of the night was quiet and calm.

Finally, lots of thunder was heard here with some lightning and a brief rain shower gave us some more unneeded rain for our saturated lawns. The rest of the evening and overnight remained warm and calm.

The high temp was only 2 degrees short of tying the day's record of 86F. Thunderstorms rolled through in the early afternoon with only a brief downpour of 0.15 inches. It was dry here until the cold front approached overnight and more severe thunderstorms developed in the area. It rained hard and blew small tree limbs out of the trees but no damage was apparent at this observation.

Part of Louisville Metro was under a severe thunderstorm warning for high wind and hail but not at my location. After the storms, some clearing occurred in time to see a beautiful sunset.

As the day went on the winds shifted again to the west and then east by evening. By late evening severe thunderstorms with large hail developed to the north and northeast but it passed us to the northeast and we only had a brief light shower overnight.

Thunderstorms in the Cincinnati, Ohio area last evening created an outflow boundary that gave us a brief northeast gust of wind up to 34 mph around 8:30 p.m.

The winds were brisk out of the north in the morning and shifted to the northwest in the early afternoon and became stronger with gusts up to around 26 mph. They became light again by mid evening and overnight.

The winds lightened up some by late afternoon and shifted back to the west for several before shifting to the southwest and southeast overnight. The skies cleared overnight and it remained dry all through the period.

Mostly cloudy skies became cloudy by early afternoon and the winds shifted to the southwest with gusts around 21 mph. The front passed quickly as the winds shifted from the southwest to the west and northwest within a few hours. The clouds were dark and threatening and may have dropped a few rain drops here but I was not at home and there was no signs of moisture in the rain gauge. I was further south of home by around 5-10 miles and we experienced a few light sprinkles as the front passed. The dew points were in the mid 60s before the front and dropped into the mid 50s by evening with light north winds and mostly sunny skies.
