Heavy thunderstorms developed to the north and west of my site during the mid and late afternoon. Movement was generally to the northeast most of the afternoon but became more easterly later. A storm complex formed in New Mexico and moved across the Texas Panhandle. A light to moderate cell moved across my location beginning at 9:45pm and lasted about 30 minutes, dropping about 0.22. A stronger cell moved across my location between 11:15pm and midnight with heavy rain for the first 20-30 minutes. We received 1.52 during that storm. Light to moderate rain continued after midnight, dropping another 0.32" for a total of 2.06". |

As low system approached from New Mexico, the frontal boundary disturbance settled on top of my location spawning thunderstorms with significant cloud to ground lightening, heavy rain, wind, and some pea size hail. The first storm built just to the east of my location and grew to encompass my location, starting heavy precipitation with the wind, hail, and lightening at 8:08 pm. I collected 0.75 by 8:30. Heavy to moderate rain continued until 10:00 pm with a total accumulation of 1.71 by 10:00 pm. We had a lull before another wave of moderate to heavy rain started at 10:30 pm. Another 0.58 fell before the rain ended near 1:00 am. Total rainfall for the event was 2.29". Total for the year at my location is 26.32, well above our annual average of 19-20. The last five years have averaged less than 16 inches. |
