I made my way to check snow cover on a northern slope later this AM, 9:30AM. I found a cover of 6" of dense snow & ice. I obtained a cylinder sample in my large rain gauge of this cover. When I melted the liguid sample to my suprise it measured only 1.09". This was less than my snowboard sample earlier this AM. My assessment of the difference is that any excess liquid moisture was retained in the snowboard sample due to a solid floor, while draining into the ground in the ground sample.
