Big thunderstorm from about 10:45pm until about midnite (last nite), numerous lightning strikes and thunderclaps, a couple of the thunderclaps had really loud ear deafening rumblings towards the end of the clap where it shook the house and rattled the windows...among the loudest I have ever heard in my life! Thunder, once a minute or even more often! Surprising only was able to get .01" out of the deal. distant thunder heard once towards the SE shortly after 1am this morning. |

big thunderstorm, heavy rain, thunder starting around 1:30 am ending after 3am. Very active, with thunder heard about 2 or 3 times per minute (lightning strikes in the hundreds in our area), with one CLOSE crackling thunder at 2:24am, most of the rain fell from 2am to 230am. Interesting no rain fell at SAC or SMF. Thunderstorm seemed to formed over sacramento area out of nowhere and cells moved to the N or NNE. No surprise here with this "summer weather" heatwave in October we have been having which seems to promote these things. |

It thundered for like 2 or 3 hrs yesterday aft-evening.upper low crossed over us during the aft causing clouds-rain-thunderstorms to change directions. The SE of rancho cordova thunderstorm complex started creeping our direction got .005" from that later the sac thunderstorm complex formed, straddled the american river towards us (got an additonal.005") later to move south. News reports indicated over 700 lightning strikes. One lightning strike was only about 3 or 4 blocks away from us. We were kinda on the edge of these storms that delivered torrential rains-hail if you were right under them.(over 1" of precip in parts of sac) At 5:35pm SMF
was 70F vs 57F here and 54F at mather. |

Yesterday we had a breezy w'ly wind (variable from sw to nw), then the sea breeze (or delta wind as is commonly called)(sw wind) started here at exactly 6:27pm raising the dew point from 42F at 6:27pm to 55F in 3 minutes at 6:30pm per: data logger (temp/rh/dp parameters). Data logger has a lag so perhaps the change was more instantaneous. The temp changed little during this "sea breeze front". This "front" crossed over the s. part of Carmichael at 6:09pm and reached the other side of Carmichael (ne side) at 6:44pm (per: dp change), Roseville 7:30pm,. Folsom 7pm, downtown sac 5:23pm, natomas 5:47pm, s. sac 5pm. |

I believe our second biggest heatwave in 24 yrs of my record keeping is over...8 days in a row of 100's coming to an end today. The biggest heatwave was in 2006 when I had 12 days in a row of 100+ degrees and a record 112 on one of the days (111 SAC and SMF). The NE sac suburbs were warmer during most of this heatwave... Its been a hot Summer, with 22 days of 100 degree weather compared to an average of 14 days for the whole Summer (yes our average was 13 days through 1990s and 2000s but the last couple of yrs was hot so the average went up to 14 now) By the way back in the old days...in the 1970s the average number of 100 degree days per yr was around 11. Coldest night we had since May. We had a low of 50F, and 40's at all of the area airports and some neighborhoods in town. Yesterday was beautiful for a change with highs in the mid 70's! Proof it doesn't always have to be hot in Sac town during our 6 months of Summer. Its the first time our barometer has been above 30" in a long time today! |
